You really have no need to fear DOSBox. Once it's set up it's a doddle to use and there really are some fabulous games you're missing out on. Off the top of my head, some of the ones I've posted that really should be in every games library, be it the DOS section are the first two Elder Scrolls games Arena and Daggerfall, Darklands, at least one of the point and click adventures I posted on Monday, Squarez Deluxe a brilliant puzzle game that some say is like Tetris, but it's much much more than that, Screamer, which was one of the first racing games that I thought looked decent (though by todays standards its dated, it still has an appeal, and finally The Incredible Machine 2.

Regards

I know what you mean....I've had my share of troubles with DOSBox(I gave up on it again...) and between my own searches and the weekday project here I've got plenty of games so that I really haven't needed to try it again. Plus, school has started back now so I've got less time for it anyway. I've played some of those oldies on friends computers and I've also played newer sequels of some of those games as well that I've really enjoyed, so there are definitely some I'm sure I'm missing out on, but if they keep calling me, I'm sure I'll probable end up trying DOSBox for them again.

Thanks, albesir... I was more wanting to tease him than wanting the link, but now I'm interested after seeing those old graphics. I've still been avoiding the DosBox games but I think I'm missing some goodies. And really, it gave me an excuse to download less games. ;-)

Today's game is called X-Men 2: Fall of the Mutants. X-Men 2 is an RPG type game that I played non-stop as a child. This was absolutely one of, if not the first, computer game I remember playing. This is a description from wikipedia:

"X-Men 2: Fall of the Mutants is a role-playing DOS game for the PC. It follows the basic story of the X-Men crossover storyline "Fall of the Mutants". The X-Men have come looking for their allies Storm and Forge, only to run into Freedom Force, who've been sent to capture them. Soon both teams find themselves caught in a bizarre time warp caused by the powerful being known as the Adversary, who has imprisoned Storm and Forge. Uatu the Watcher appears at the beginning and introduces the game as a parallel universe's version of the story from the "real" Marvel timeline in the vein of Marvel's What If? series. In this case, 'What if a different team of heroes fought the Adversary?'

"The game uses an overhead view during normal play as characters move around the map, as they look for enemies, health crates, and traps. When the X-Men encounter an enemy, the game switches to a side view close-up during the battle scenes. In each level the object is to search for a pair of Freedom Force members and defeat them in battle, but only the defeat of one villain will send the player's team to the next level. After completing enough levels the heroes are thrust into battle with the Adversary himself."

As the description indicates, this is a dos game so you will need to save it into your dos games folder. If you've not worked with dos, I suggest following my tutorial found here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/4420

The download is rather paltry at 347kb. You will need a zip program such as 7-zip or winrar. The website requires you to log in using username ABANDONWARE and password PARADISE. Please remember to keep the letters uppercase because this does make a difference.
