I've just StumbleUpon'd Electric Box http://www.candystand.com/uk/play.do?id=18500 - an online game (so nothing to download).

It's a problem solving game in which you have to connect a power supply to a target by adding a variety of components into a broken circuit, and thus requires a bit of thought.

I've only being playing for a few minutes but I already seem to be stuck at level 5 out of 15 - just goes to show how good I am at these sort of games.

Thanks, Runesage, for your reply. I might try out your Lumen suggestion; then again, I might just delete it. I will check out the other game thread you suggested to me in your last post, a little later. :)

I gotta stop hijacking threads. Visit this game thread for a few casual games that involve both physics and 3D spatial awareness.

RosnSC, fwiw, after railing about the game's deficiencies on the Crazy Board but before deleting it, I tried opening the 3/4's of the game board I could see on my monitor and found that by twisting the knobbed element until the power beam touches another knobbed element, the power is channeled until it's fired up into space and you "win" a round. (very reminiscent of the Tower in Myst that had to be turned to different points on the island in order to set certain things in motion) The first level only took me about 15-seconds to win. Presumably, each level grows more complicated/difficult.

Personally, I continue to derive much more pleasure from a challenging casual game called Chromatron (all 4 collections), posted by CreamyPretzel some 9 months ago and reposted by Wabbit just a couple weeks back.

Whabbit

Will this time freeze work with Lumen? http://www.gamershell.com/download_30068.shtml

I have "The Mysterious City Golden Prague" from when it was given away before!

This is from the comments section: Lumen
#49

I’m not usually into cheats for games because I can’t see the point WhiteRabbit on 28August2008 offered the following link, even though in general, he didn’t believe “in cheating because it makes the game too easy. However after trying to get to the end of the first day three times now, I think the Freeze time trainer that caulbox comment #23 mentions may be a good idea.

you can download it from the following address:

http://www.gamershell.com/download_30068.shtml ”

thank you Steven and good luck people. make it work for you so you can have fun.

you activate the freeze.exe before starting your problem program, and it has a hotkey to stop the game’s time.

sorry for the split comment but i needed to check what the link was and if it were still there….

Okay, I'm feeling just a bit ignorant, here. I just downloaded/installed/tried out Lumen, and cannot figure out what to do. I click onto this 'thing' which I am guessing is a charger, where the laser beam is emitting from, and all that happens is these little 'things' bubble up a bit and just fall. Nothing is happening to the laser beam, itself.

Thanks, Stephen. A general question. I'm I to take it from your comments on Merscom that their games are true standalone?. No registry entries, no files outside the root folder? True portability? I know there's kind of a taboo reason that has to do with GGOTD not to answer that, and I understand. I thought I'd ask, though, just because I'm a big fan of standalones.

5 minute Review of Lumen:

Installation:

The 5.25Mb downloaded zip file opens up a read me and combined activation and setup file. And expands to 15.8Mb on installation. As usual with Merscom games the installed game does not install desktop or sart menu shortcuts. When you install the game be sure to make a note of where the game is installed to. According to the read me the defauly location is C:\Games\Lumen, but I noticed when installing this version that it tried to install itself to yesterdays game path, so be sure to check the path before committing the installation. If you're not sure how to create a start menu (or desktop) shortcut see the tutorial in the games discussion thread:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2594

The Game:

This is a great puzzle game with 115 levels to work through. You have to move mirrors to reflect a laser beam to its destination. Every time you cross the beam with the emitter you damage the emitter; do that enough times and you lose the level. There are eight different locations to discover starting in Egypt and ending in Atlantis. Game play is good, starting off with a relatively easy puzzle to solve which gets progressively harder the further into the game you go. There are doors to be unlocked and you have to charge your batteries by directing the laser beam through recharge pods. You can create multiple profiles and you progress is automatically saved at the end of each level. The game is fully mouse controlled

System Requirements:

Windows 98/2000/Me/XP/Vista
Processor: Pentium 450 MHz
32 MB RAM
Free hard drive space: 8 MB
32MB VRAM

Conclusion:

This is quite a decent and good looking game though with my limited experience with the game can only give a tentative score of 6 or maybe 6.5. And for this reason I can only give a very guarded opinion of the game. If you were buying the game the $6 that you can purchase it for or for today, getting it free I’d say both are bargains

The game play is entertaining in small doses, but I personally didn’t find enough to keep me captivated for more than a few plus levels, which would lead me to the conclusion that it’s probably a great game for those indeterminable moments you sometimes have spare and wonder what to do with your time. But it’s not a game I could sit down and play for hours at a time.
