Thanks. That's a useful explanation. Appreciate it! Yeah, there's a link to Wikipedia's portable apps list in the links section. I must admit I'm less concerned about the people in the forums than I am about some of the newbies in the comments section. If people don't understand that you have to take the proper precautions, then they're in the wrong place. If anybody downloads software without taking any precautions, they might need to go back to pen and paper. Part of the problem is that the really sharp people talk about downloading and trying practically everything, because they do. For them, it's a fun hobby, which makes sense to me. They're so experienced, they take the proper precautions automatically, so they don't bother to talk about it. That might mislead a newbie. Myself, I don't have the time to test a lot of software, so I'm looking for proven solutions. So I'm like you, I look for software testing sites and other reviews. I try to take advantage of the good work that has already been done. I'm not big on reinventing the wheel.

I'm not affiliated with them.
I have been to just about every portable application site on the net though and they are the definitive source.
As I already mentioned they care about portablility.
I know that the software is tested to be clean and free of viruses by both forum members and admins and that stolen software and taking credit for others creations is not tolerated.
I have also tested every piece of software I download from there and the statements made in the corresponding entry into the database are factual.

I do not know if there is a link to the wikipedia pages somewhere on the forums the main site is only a database.
Of course if you find software on Wikipedia that doesn't write on the system at all and can be run on different computers keeping it's own settings please sign up and submit it for entry.

You can also go there to see my disagreements with portableApps.com even though some are included in the database

So , not pushing just advising.

Local, do you have some connection to the portablefreeware.com site? I've seen you push it in other posts. Or do you have some programs there that you wrote? Looks like a useful site. I can't think of anybody on this forum that knows more about testing games than Whiterabbit, so I'm sure he'll be reasonably careful. By the way, though portablefreeware.com doesn't have a link to the Wikipedia list of portable games, they do have one to the Wikipedia list of portable software.

I don't like using "portable" software that hasn't been tried and tested by people who care about such things.
A small selection of tested ones do reside here though

arenegade started a thread dealing with the PortableApps suite and since standalones are a passion of mine and I was collecting links, I posted a bunch of portable links. While I was looking, I found Wikipedia's list of portable games. I realize for some of you hard core gamers, anything that can be made portable must seem hopelessly crude. On the other hand, I figure some of you are so addicted, you're probably desperate for stuff to take with you (LOL). I can't believe this hasn't already been posted on some thread somewhere, but I couldn't find it with a search. All the games have probably been mentioned individually in other theads, but here they all are together:
