You can buy Journey to the centre of the earth for £4.99 as a DVD copy from Game Uk. and as a bundle of 3 it only costs £3.33p which at the moment is equivalent to $4.69. At full price you're paying a lot more at Big Fish games , though with a game pass you can get it for less than $7 (£4.95). I'm glad I bought the DVD version as it's easy to install on any computer without having to contact BFG, and you don't need an online connection to register it. :)

Hi Lisa, unfortunately none of the Myst series has been converted to abandonwre. Even the very first one has been remastered to bring the original 8 bit graphics up to scratch. At the moment I only have Uru and Myst III. I'm waiting for my local games shop to get more stock in for the complete set. You can pick up The remastered version of Myst, Riven, (Myst II, Myst III:Exile, Myst IV: Revelations and Myst V: End of Ages for less than £15, which is just a little more than the cost of a standard arcade game. It doesn't include Uru, which I've already got. The only one that appears to be available still on general release is the last one. The game shop uk are selling it for less than £2 (but that too is out of stock at the moment) which is less than $3.

======================================================================

There is an add-on for Uru that you can get for free. It's around 175Mb in size and can be downloaded from the following address:

http://www.download.com/Uru-Ages-Beyond-Myst-To-D-ni-Add-on/3000-7495_4-10283378.html

Gosh, I'm glad I ventured over to GOTD today. I, like Stephen, have a few BigFish credits accumulated, so I might give Syberia2 a shot.

I really should be cleaning my house [yuck] or scouring the web for my birthmother, but I've been searching for 19 months now and keep hitting brick walls. Wasting the day on a new game sounds much more appealing.

btw - I know this isn't the time or the place, but if anyone wants to give my search a shot, I would sure appreciate it. I was a gray-market adoption, not quite legit, and when the adoption agency closed in the 1970s, they absconded with all of the records.

Here's her basic info: name in files is "Sandra Strickland" who was 20 yrs old when she moved into a maternity home in Gainesville, Florida on 9/15/62. She was a junior college graduate [probably class of 1962], strawberry blonde hair, hazel eyes, English-Welsh descent. Presbyterian. Possibly from Indiana [but it could be any midwestern state that starts with a vowel.] email tips to me at jan21-1963 on the Windows-brand email [opposite of dead].

Stephen, did they ever make Myst abandoned ware?

Thx,

So glad you're totally enjoying it, Merri! Nothing like being immersed in a game that truly takes you away. Both are on my "want" list, but unfortunately not really soon. Enjoy it to the hilt! @:-)

White rabbit and all..
Syberia 2 is WONDERFUL!
I STRONGLY recommend this game.
The graphics are even better than Syberia 1 and it is so far a delight..
It has a wonderful story line and is humourous, moving and totally immersive.
I have saved a ton of times just so I can go back and walk around in the beautiful scenes...
Most of the puzzles are not too challenging (except for the last one, where I had to get help..lol)
How is Syberia going?

Hi, Wizz... I did decide not to cancel my order for LOTRO because of an answer I found in the general forum as to if it supported solo play:
(c/p):
We very strongly support solo game play. Throughout our game there is a multitude of options for both solo players and for group based play. We will continue to support that for our end game. In fact, we want as much of the game as possible to be accessible to solo players.

So regardless, I'll enjoy the beautiful graphics! (hope my computer cooperates...)

Well I didn't play through that much Local. Like I said it wasn't really my thing. I think I played through a couple of levels and seem to remember having trouble defeating Mr. Freeze. I would expect an update would probably be in the works if there hasn't been one yet because the game has been out quite awhile now.

I'd have to disagree with your recommendation Wizzard.
Lego Batman is a good game with less glitches than Lego Star wars and Lego Indiana Jones but it still has a LOT of glitches.

I'd wait and hope for an update first, after playing the same level through 5 times because of a glitch on the boss can really get to you after a while.

Did you (or your child) not have any of these problems?
I hope I didn't just get a bad copy or something.

Well you do get the first month free...if nothing else you'd be out $4 for a whole month's gaming. You could always give it a try. It got excellent reviews from all major game companies so it's gotta be good.

Aw, shucks. You're right, Wizz... I'm not that type. I saw that feature but I thought it was an option and also a game you could play by yourself, as they send you two discs. The graphics looked so beautiful... too good to be true, huh? I wonder if I could stop the order, as I used PayPal. Thanks for alerting me, Wizz.

Oh, and Whiterabbit... I just saw your recommendation for Dreamfall and The Longest Journey, and I'll seriously check it out. The original Myst is what got me totally mesmerized with this type of game, then Riven and Exile, then somehow stopped there tho I have Uru in its box. Just got too busy to commit the time, so started playing shorter fun games. But I think I'm ready for an immersion game again. To heck with work. Lol!

you're welcome midori...you do realize shadow of angmar is a pay to play mmo ($14.99 per month) don't you? You just don't strike me as the type to spend $15 every month to play a game that you already paid for. This is why I don't like WoW and enjoy Guild Wars much more. I'm passing on this particular sale because the games that interest me are a little too much for me to spend right now. I would recommend Lego Batman to those with children though because it has gotten good reviews and at under $20 it's a good deal. I bought that game when they had it on sale last time at that price and thought it was a little too cutesy and "go here! do this!" for me.

LOL about the unfinished games that you have going..me too...
Yes Syberia 2 is so different; I could see that they have improved a lot over the first Syberia.
Worth getting (and the Longest journey /Dreamfall definitely is, too, as our WR has said!
Yes it is like Christmas all the time around here!

Whiterabbit..
Wow, I am constantly amazed at your energy in posting..it's great!!!!
ONE day I will have a stronger computer and will be able to play games such that you mention; I am envious as they sound OUTSTANDING!
YES that is an amazing deal for the Dreamfall Longest Journey game.
I signed up for the alert; thanks for the info!!
I have also bookmarked the site; looks very interesting!!!
YES it is shocking what prices other sites ask ..I had held off getting Syberia 2 as it was always priced at about $30 CD.
Speaking of which I had no time until now today online so am about to get cracking on it!
I think the way it is spelt is because it is an imaginary place..not really Siberia that we know.
YES about HO games.
They were fun at first but really aren't much more than an eye strain in many cases.
I did enjoy Treasure Masters though; it's graphics were nice and clear and the game was quite different.
I will let you know about Syberia 2 later on!
take care..

I've just signed up for the notification, though I couldn't find any reference on the main page. I bought Dungeon Siege a few months ago for £3.33 (part of a 3 for £10 deal. For the price you can't beat it for quality, though Oblivion, which has a very similar world, is miles ahead for game play and realism. Still it's a great game to own. For the price you paid for all those games it make you wonder why we'd pay $19.99 for a single arcade game, lol. I still find it hard to see why arcade game distributor/developers don't follow the big games and reduce their prices after the initial rush has passed. Most DVD based games are dramatically reduced in price within a year of release whereas most arcade games retain their price for years sometime; though things do seem to be changing recently. What; with all the free sites and offers that are always available. The Gamehouse free game every day is excellent if you don't mind the odd advert popping up every few levels usually for 19 seconds (don't ask me why 19), but I've just been told that they are already repeating the games which would indicate that only those games they are having difficulty shifting are being given away. Pity as I'd hoped to check out some of the more recent released in an extended capacity as I don't think a 60 minute demo is long enough sometimes to decide; especially with point and click and hidden objects games.

I just bought Simcity Societies (RTS), Thrillville Off the Rails(RTS), Silverfall(RPG), Dungeon Siege(RPG), and The Silver Key 2(Adventure) from gogamer.com for about $18.99. They have great sales on games called 48 hour madness. They've been listing quite a few games on their sales whereas they used to only offer 5-10. The sales usually last for several days and then a day or two without sales. Currently they aren't running one but I expect them to start again tomorrow or Sunday.

Until recently, the only point and click adventure I had was Myst III and URU, two beautifully made games, the sequels to Myst and Riven. I think The Longest Journey is an offshoot of the Myst series, but couldn't swear to it; however, if you compare the graphics, they are remarkably similar. All are beautifully put together; full of dialogue and the graphics are sumptuous to say the least. When these games first came onto the scene a decade ago they must have been like a breath of fresh air, though I do think that 3D games have caught up with the realism that the point and click adventure game gave with the photo realistic backgrounds, for example if you jump into games like Far Cry 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Crysis, the scenery that you are able to actually walk around in and interact with is amazing. When I first opened up Far Cry I was gob-smacked by the realism of the game as I was the others.

Besides the Myst games I've got several freeware games and only purchased Dreamfall: The Longest Journey a few months ago. I bought the Limited Edition set that included The Longest Journey and Dreamfall its sequel, a CD of the music and a beautiful hard back book of the art work

You can buy the standard Dreamfall and The Longest Journey in one package from Game UK for less than £2 that’s equivalent to less than $3, (an outstanding bargain). Anyone interested in buying the game postage and packaging in the UK is free. Just Google Game and you'll get the full url) Overseas orders cost an additional $7 for postage & packaging but even then $10 for a game of this caliber is fantastic.

The Limited Edition, which is still available costs only £14.99 ($21) Oddly the normal X-Box version of The longest Journey costs nearly as much as the PC Limited Edition version. The 89 page art book, is crammed full of gorgeous imagery from the game as well as the odd sketch done for the original story board. I’ve hardly touched the game though simply because of my addiction for buying games on a regular basis.

I’m sure the giveaway team won’t mind me posting a link to the product page which shows the prices I’ve quoted above:

http://www.game.co.uk/search.aspx?platform=*&s=dreamfall&sort=itemOrderasc

What I find annoying is you can find this game for as much as four times the price elsewhere on the net. I’ve seen just The Longest journey being sold for £10 which is ridiculous when you consider you can buy it and it’s sequel for less than £2 from Game UK. I suppose that’s what we call market forces, lol.

I await your review of Syberia 2. Though I'll probably just use up one of my game credits, which have accumulated over the last few months because all I see at Big Fish at the moment is a stream of Hidden Object games; (all beautifully illustrated, but it's getting crazy - where have all the traditional arcade games gone? I'm sure the bubble with respect to HD games is going to burst soon. (I hope)

Regards

Midori, I'd recommend buying Dreamfall; the longest journey in preference to Syberia, there's much more game play, you get two games and it's a lot cheaper. Though not having played (or for that matter bought) Syberia 2, maybe I'm being a little hasty in what I say. Still if you’re limited cash wise I reckon from what I've seen of Dreamfall, The Longest Journey and Syberia I, there's not much to separate them for quality.

p.p.s.

I still can't figure why the developer called it Syberia and not Siberia (the correct spelling I think)

p.p.p.s.

Unfortunately the games are out of stock at Game UK at the moment but you can find them on Amazon, though you won't find the standard edition of Dreamfall : The longest journey for such a low price. If you click on the stock alert button you can leave your Email in the field provided and wen the game comes back in stock you will be notified. Game UK do not spam you with unwanted mails, so it's safe to use this facility.

As for a link between Myst and The Longest Journey, Ornithos has told me there isn't one so I did some research and can confirm that he is right. There are similarities but there is no developer connections etc. Both games are well worth hving if you're into pint and click. The original Myst held the most ever computer game sold until 2002 when the Sims took the crown. Myst was originally released way back in 1992, but copies you can buy today in special editions etc have been remmastered to up the graphics to 24bit, so don't think you're getting old graphics if you decided to buy one of the earlier versions.

Thank you, Merri... and yep, my email confirmed that. I already have the four "constantly free" ones, and the coupon is the same as using the Casual Pack. But yes, I'll get Syberia when I can for sure. Have been existing off of freebies and old unfinished games for quite a bit... and still have plenty to go! And Mr. Rabbit and and his cohorts here have my freebie folder expanding daily. But glad to hear your good opinion of Syberia, so that'll be my next purchase. And I'm sure I'll love it! Cheers. :)

Hi Midori!!!
Your post must have come in after I left the computer for a while!
YES it was the one where you were offered from only 4 choices.
Each email address can get the game(which I didn't bother with as they were the same old, same old)and the coupon for the %50 off _ANY_ game...(there are NO stipulations as to what you choose!!)
Mind you you can get ANY game at Bigfish for the same price now anyway..I guess times are tough all over...
:( (bad for the creators but good for the consumer!
I DID get Syberia 2 with the coupon!!
I have JUST started it and and am VERY pleased; it looks every bit as good as its' predecessor!
Cheers back!
(PS let me know what you think of Syberia if you get it!)
:)

Hello, W.Rabbit!
:)
For Syberia 2?
I definitely will, once I have played it!
:)
So you are just beginning Syberia? I JUST finished it about an hour ago...
I took my time so it took me twice as long.
I got stuck quite a few times(as it was about 2 years ago that I first played it and I had forgotten a lot..)
I know that you will enjoy it!
I hope that we aren't flooded either but it is wonderful to see a change from the others!
Have you ever played The Longest Journey?
IT is a great game (and quite long)
Yes too much of anything is overkill...

Thanks, Merri... I had forgotten about the Hallmark offer, so thanks for the 'minder. I believe it's only limited to four games chosen by BigFish? Did you get Syberia 2 with the discount? Ohhhhh I would love to play that game, but of course I'd start with Syberia first. I just sent for my coupon, so will go and check to see what I got. Cheers to you.

I bought Syberia last week, and was considering buying the second. you will have to write a short review now seeing as you started the thread, lol. I can decided whether to buy it then. :) I've only booted it up and called the consierge so far. I just wanted to see what it played like. The graphics look good. I didn't realise it was several years old before as I've not heard of it before.

It looks like the point and click adventure is about to make a comeback. I just hope we arn't flooded like they've done with Hidden Objects, Management and Match three games.

I want to see more games like crazy contraptions, chain reaction and Crazy Machines, then if they over did those they would also become boring. ;)

regards

Big Fish now offers ALL of it's games for just 9.99...there is a new section under the "game club"..called, "casual pack"...
(cancel at any time..)
I also noticed that they STILL offer the free game through the email deal(for readers who didn't profit from this excellent deal last time)plus you get the 50 % coupon for any other game.
http://tinyurl.com/b5dg38

I had forgotten that I had the coupon so just treated myself to Syberia 2.

I have had Syberia for many years (jewel case) and pulled it out the other day and have been SOOO enjoying playing it.
It is a fabulous game with graphics that are over the top. It is easy to see why it got so many awards at the time.

So now am looking forward to the 2nd part..
:)
