Suki, I know what you mean about whether you'll be able to get through all the games you buy. I very much doubt I'll finish a lot of them actually.

When I first started to buy lots of games every day (which I did for a couple of months about six or seven months after my accident because they helped so much, a lot of them were actually not very good. So I've got a few hundred games that I will definitely never play again, then there a couple more hundred that I’m not sure about etc etc - you catch my drift. The only games that I've consistently bought that are playable all the time are my DVD based ones. Because most of them cost more than an arcade game I put more thought into whether I really wanted them.

I've had some dialogue with Big Fish Games regarding putting up more interesting games apart from the ubiquitous hidden objects, match three, and time management games. I've suggested they get in touch with the developers of Obulis, line rider 2, and the guys who have done the Crazy Machines games (they have the first, but not the better 1.5 and 2 versions). I just hope they do something about it. I was really surprised when games like Hyperballoid 2 and Action Ball 2 bombed out last year; especially Hyperballoid 2 with it's levels editor; and you never see games like Reaxxion mentioned in top 20 lists of games. Only Ricochet Infinity seems to have made an impact over the last few years (its good, but not necessarily the bet arkanoid around {I love Acky’s XP Breakout, a vastly underrated breakout, which despite being several years old won an award for ‘best of’ recently}

Arkanoids have become almost extinct as a new release recently, though there are the odd ones such as Strike Ball 3, which is okay; (better than Strike Ball 2 Deluxe, but not earth shatteringly good. They could have created more power-ups and improved the graphics more (though things like the brick physics have been improved and there’s a variety of air vehicles now). Pity they’ve dropped the battery power-up though. I got bored playing it after about level 30.

That's some project Suki. I think Gamezebo is an excellent site. Perhaps you could put in a good word for me?

Anyway, I should have been in bed hours ago and I've still to get the kids lunch boxes ready, lol.

Good night.

Regards

I would buy it if it was released to BF, I would only have to pay 6.99..., but sometimes I wonder if they know what a good game is, lmao! So I will not be holding my breath! If I was very...very good at this type of game I would spend the 20.00, because from what I was able to play...it was Damn good!

I got myself into another project, that I need like a whole in my head(right next to the other one that's there, roflmao!)...I am helping Joel at Gamezebo with his website now, like I have time....

Just did a simple beta(the ones with the surveys you play for an hour)from PlayFirst called "Diaper Dash", my response was less than flattering...my suggestion to them was...When are you coming out with "Toilet Dash"...

When will they realize that most casual gamers are in their 40's or 50's...on the Gamezebo Forum, one is 73...hope I live that long to complete all the games I have bought!

Glad you got the code!

Just over a day later and I finally got my unlock code for Obulis. I also got an apology from someone called Bob (doesn't sound Russian lol) who said that it doesn't usually happen. I was told by someone else waeler today, (after writing to them), that they like to ensure that orders aren't fraudulent, then I got an Email from yet another person (all with Anglo Saxon sounding names) saying that if I'd not heard from them within a reasonable span of time that I shuld Email them back.

anyway, the wait was worth it. for anyone who likes puzzle games this is a definite must have, if you love games that demonstrate accurate physics, then you must get this and if you love games with beautiful graphics again, you must get this.

I agree with you Suki, once you pass the easy levels, the game starts to get progressively harder to complete. The review you linked to does mention that casual gamers will probably find this game too hard and would never see the end levels. I don't think they are impossible, but you will need some skill and precise timing to win some levels. Here's some videos of game play:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uTr-GtVvNvo

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jNcJtJsTfYA

There's lots of them covering most of the levels:

http://uk.youtube.com/user/obulis

I got the Nancy drew game to run (and well ) on my computer...(hooray!)
I am loving it but am stuck.
I can't seem to get past sweeping off the ice...I have been fired many times after falling into the freezing cold water(which seems a mean thing to have happen...lol)
Grouche; I am running firefox and gamehouse installs without a problem.
Suki I am sorry that it won't work for you!
Amycakes, you are playing it; did you get past the ice sweeping yet?

Whabbit
Thought you would like it! When I exited the game, I was just sitting back watching the credits role and the beautiful graphics I will probably never get to see...I noticed that the names seem to be Russian, so maybe that's the hangup...I know from working with gala from Realore, it seems those guys don't work on the weekends, lol!

GrochE, thanks, I have tried both...they fully download but will not run...I have to do a reboot, can't kill it with Task Manager...I had a similar problem back in 2007 with RA...I couldn't download from their site period...there where no download buttons...it was stuck on tps=upgrade_...never fully linked to the site...so I gave up and watched the versions change, lol...then one day in 2008...poof, the site worked for me again...must have been the versions changing...I have a V2 R2 test that I run from them that tells me what the current version is, also the installer version...they have changed so much, I stopped writing them down...they should get REAL...roflmao...on their forums you will see my signature as "is it REAL or is it MEMOREX"...not on the forums much anymore as I quit Gamepass in Aug,2006...still do the Evals though...

Thanks Suki, though only the mbs are important to me.
As for the gh games not working for you, are you only using FFx? They'll seemingly dl on FFx, but it's a facade . . . have to use IE.

Thanks, Sir Rabbit.
Yeah, these gamehouse ad games are fairly useless, especially the time management type, as player needs those ad-stolen minutes to advance towards the more challenging levels.

Hi again Suki,

With a clearer head I've managed to buy Obulis without any repeat purchases etc; though I have to wait upwards of 24 hours for my activation code. The Email confirming my purchase said they have to do several security checks on my card; despite me paying by PayPal. (It must have been an auto-response) I don't particularily like to have to wait when the money had been paid already, but I'm sure it's going to be worth it.

Thank you so much for telling me about this game. :) While I'm waiting I'll enjoy Crayon Physics Deluxe instead, which is also a fabulous game.

Wow, impressive game. I went to buy it then realized I'd not added my detailsso went back to fill in the dtails. then got to the check out and noticed they had me down for three copied. There seemed no way of cancelling the extra's, so I'm leaving it until I've had a sleep. It's past 6 am and I haven't been to bed yet.

You have to try it, I think you will like it!

I on the other hand am mentally challenged by this game, but the graphics and music are beautiful and soothing...there is the solution on the right hand side, you just have to click on it...even with that I was still challenged by the physics...I got to the Dark Forest...which is where I left it for now...

Hello Pavid, you are welcome for the tutorial. Your first question was actually just answered in the tutorial thread. Alt+Enter makes the screen go full-screen. Each individual game is responsible for their sounds. Usually there is a configure.exe file within the game folder that allows you to set up your sound. For your last question, I've ran into this problem as well, but never looked up a work-around. I always just hit alt+tab to switch windows and then close the box. I will do a little digging for your last question and see what I can come up with.

Regards,

Hey Wizz, thanks for the dosbox instructable. Following your instructions I was able to get a game up and running. I think I need some more of your help though. When I fire up a game in dosbox, it shows up in a small box on my screen. Is there any way to enlarge the dosbox? Next is the game responsible for making the appropriate sound connection or is it doxbox? If it is the dosbox then how do I get sound to work or am I SOL? Finally, once I start the dosbox my mouse cursor is trapped in the box. Is there any way to break out without closing the box?

Sorry for so many questions but I've never used dosbox before.

The game I mention above called Dr Lunatic: Supreme with Cheese, is actually a commercial game. I only mentioned it in passing because it was on one of the Dink pages I'd read, and I must have misread it as I thought it was freeware. Sorry Exploro. The only way you're going to get it is visit P2P and crack sites which I wouldn't recommend.

p.s.

I'll have some decent games for you in the morning. I may post them before I go to bed so that I don't have to bother setting the alarm to get up as I don't think we'll be getting a game tomorrow. (though don't quote me on that as I'm only assuming) I'm still preparing the document at the moment. I'd read that one of the games game with very poor instructions so I spent quite some time playing the game to make a note of the controls.

For some unknown reason, I can't play the Gamehouse games...they download, but will not play...which is strange, because they are bed partners with RA!

Hi Whabbit, I still am lurking...but have not found anything to say in the last couple of weeks!!!
By the way have you played this game http://www.gamezebo.com/games/obulis/review
Overview:

Obulis is IonFx's new Puzzle/Action game for Windows PCs. Based on our award-winning mobile games of the same name, Obulis takes things to the next level by fusing highly compelling gameplay with outstanding graphics, music and state of the art physics effects.

The goal of Obulis is to drop all of the colored spheres into their like-colored pots. Spheres are connected to the playfield using chains and ropes and the player must cut these constraints to put the spheres in motion. The controls are extremely simple and intuitive. Obulis can literally be learned in seconds, but the puzzles will keep you thinking for hours.

• Over 150 Levels
• Breathtaking Graphics and Music
• Spectacular Physics and Special Effects

Thank you so very much everyone for all of the effort in rallying around to get good free games when there aren't any on the front pages. As a single mum of two small children, I do look forward to having games to play in the evening when they are sleeping! I'm playing the Nancy Drew and really enjoying it. As for the rest...too many options! Ahhh ! Ahhhh! ;O)!! I will definitely be popping in and out to look at all of the rest of them..., but I grabbed the ND as I've enjoyed playing them in the past. Thank you again and happy Saturday everyone!

Thanks for these, Rabbit!
I am going to check them all out later today.
I have an older computer so have found that I unfortunately cannot run the Nancy Drew game.
:(
I have purchased many games after playing them on an advertised site, and hopefully others do too!
Similarly , I have purchased additional games by an independant developer HERE after getting a free game; lately the ones by MDNA,
http://www.mdna-games.com/
of which I now own three!!
Here are some good reviews..

Hi GrouchE, I try to post the size for exactly the reason you state, but I do forget to do it often. I'll try and be a little more thoughtful.

I've not come across any Gamehouse games that have pop up adverts during a level yet, but then I tend to shy away from such methods of advertising as I see it as an invasion of privacy (though I realize you're getting the games for free because of the advertising). That's why, if I think the game is good enough I'd rather pay for it myself; though it seems paid for games are becoming a pain with all the protection surrounding them now. I've got a couple of games that are nigh on impossible to reinstall once you've had to reformat due to registration s being limited to a few (though these can usually be rolled back once you've Emails the distributor. but I always though that you pay your maney then you own the product. this online activation and constant checking doesn't feel like you own the game.

I've actually only bothered with a few gamehouse games so far and then only to see if they are worth buying. It worries me what effect this is going to have on the gaming industry. If thousands of potential customers are getting these games for free, and the original developers are not getting a fair cut of the profits made by these middlemen, (through the money they get from the advertising instead of the games sales) isn't the lack of cash going to the developers only going to depress the games market in the end.

Whats going to happen to all the originality? People are not going to spend there time trying to develop ideas if there isn't going to be a decent return. (though I realize there are lots of indie developers doing it for the love of it (World of Goo came out of such a project) Thankfully there have been some interesting games released recently such as World of Goo, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Darkside, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness (2 games) and the Gumboy Tourmanent (sequel to Gumboy Crazy Adventures), the future release of Gish 2 Shadowgrounds, Switchball and Spacerangers 2 to name just few. Then you just have to look at some of the freeware games that have been posted recently. Maybe I'm wrong.... Ihope I am.

Thanks for the games as usual guys. I've played a few of these, but most I haven't gotten to yet. I've played some of Dink Smallwood(I put it down when I found Barkley, Shut Up and Jam and a couple others) and I should probably revisit it. Also, Squarez is a fun one as well. I haven't played Jetpack before, and it looks like it would be a good time waster.

I wish all the game sites (and the gaotd "other" games posters) would include the mbs info near the top of their terrific posts so's mugs like me (on dial up) wouldn't have to google "blah blah mbs" to see if we qualify for the download.
Also, Gamehouse ad-games seem to vary in commercial frequency . . . some loading every 2-3 minutes, right in the hard part of a stage . . . and the clock keeps going on the game, so you lose 30 seconds per spot, probably making most games unwinnable?

I guess I am the first to comment on the gamehouse game; THANKS Stephen for this reminder!
I adore these type of games, they are NOT just for kids and can be quite challenging!
I am still working on, "Lights, Camera, Curses" which gamehouse offered about 5 days ago; it has a lot of humour and is fun too...

Here’s one for those into Retro games ‘with a vengeance’. This reminds me of that very early arcade game asteroids even down to the graphics though I seem to remember the ones I played on were black and white as opposed to green and black. It’s called:

Battle Space: (<1Mb)

A Retro style asteroids game with enemies and power-ups. Destroy all rocks on the level to level up. Don't let your ship's health reach zero. For anyone who loved the old vector based arcade games this is a must have. It’s very basic, but has all the elements of games with far superior graphics. One of the most up to date of this genre that I can think of is Darkside created by Pie Eyed Games.

Requirements:

Windows XP & Vista

Download Link:

http://www.download.com/Battle-Space/3000-2099_4-10756324.html?tag=rbxcrdl1

======================================================================

Here’s another Retro game that I think is very playable. It’s called Gamma Brothers and is reminiscent of R-Type. If you’re an old space shooter fan like myself, you’ll appreciate the game; though even those that are not into the genre may find this quite pleasant. Once the game starts up you have to press return and then the two characters will mount their space ships. Once launched into space to take over with

Gamma Brothers: (19.5Mb)

You play as one of the Gamma Brothers who must destroy an endless stream of UFOs that invade from every direction. To start the game simply click on Start, then once the brothers have mounted their ships, press enter. This will launch them into space. Once there you can then take over using the arrow keys to move your craft around and the WASD keys to fire in four directions. When your energy gets depleted, running into your brother will swap your ships, tag-team-style. The rest is easy to pick up, but a solid challenge to complete. You can pause the game using the space bar and also swap between full screen and windowed mode using the usual windows buttons in the top right hand corner of the window. This is a flash game so you will require macromedia flash to play the game. As it’s a flash game you’d also expect to be able to find this online, which you can via the following link:

http://www.pixeljam.com/gammabros/online/

and the download link can be found below:

http://www.pixeljam.com/gammabros/

======================================================================

Ant Academy:

Ant Academy is a game based on the classic game snake/nibbler. Eat the apples to score points, the more ants in the line the more you score. Don't crash the ants into each other or into walls and don't let them go overboard! Once you have enough ants to form a line from tile 'A' to tile 'B' you can complete the level or go for a big score - get too greedy though and you'll probably get in trouble!

Download Link

http://www.btinternet.com/~mikenmaz/antacademy.html

======================================================================

Dink Smallwood: (16Mb)

Dink Smallwood is a humorous zelda-like isometric adventure/RPG produced and published by Robinson Technologies in 1997.
One of the unique features of Dink is its abilities to run Dink Modules (DMOD's) for unlimited adventure. Dink Edit is included with the game so you can make your own.

To download more adventures (DMOD's) and other cool stuff visit The Dink Network.
http://www.dinknetwork.com/

Download Link
http://www.rtsoft.com/dink/download.htm

Also try the other game that’s linked to on the download page called Dr Lunatic: Supreme with Cheese. It comes with 1000 levels, has a DMOD type system (with a much easier to use level editor).

======================================================================

Finally; for today at least, another puzzle game. (I’ve decided to post a couple of these today because I’ve not posted many recently):

Hexxagon:

The idea is to occupy the board with as many of your gems as possible, you do this by moving your gems into the empty pods. You can choose to play against the computer, or against another human opponent. There are two types of moves, a jump or double, indicated when your piece is selected. Entering into a hexxagon occupied by an opponent's piece will transform them into yours. Use the left mouse button to click on the gems. The gem will spread an outline on the board, an arrow is shown as you move over the gems. Jump or move the gems within the outline to make a move.

Download Link:

http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/26998/Hexxagon.html

The above site does have a yellow WOT rating. I’d search for more download links, but my kids are asking me to honor my promise. So Adieu for now…..I’ll be back with another games packed post tomorrow if there’s no official game giveaway. :) I’ll try and add more genres to the pot then……

Days like today are the whole reason you even started this little project Rabbit. It would be silly for us not to carry on with the tradition. I'm willing to help whenever or wherever I can.

I agree that with all of the power-ups included, it isn't really Tetris, but the core gameplay is still there and deserves the comparisons. That being said, I commend the developers on a fresh idea that totally redefined the game of Tetris and gave Squarez it's own name. Besides, is it really that bad being compared to Tetris? (I never liked Tetris much either, but it was a HUGE game.) If you think about it, Tetris really did alot for the gaming world. It pioneered a new genre including match 3 games. Match 3 games took the same core gameplay and redefined it to make a new genre. I'm with Rabbit, both of the games deserve their dues because both of them are great at what they do.

Kind regards,
