That's ok, I'm finishing it now, I don't have the luxury of editing my posts forever (hour limit), so I had to get something of mine to link to in the Skyrim thread.

Edit: Finished - See also The Elder Scrolls: Arena!

Just updating the links for The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall.

Official Download - Bethesda Software
Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall website - Direct download

Additionally, a very kind person has simplified everything into a single installer! Ancestral Ghost at theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net has combined the download from Bethesda, above, with DOSBox 0.74, and some extras from the community. This installer will let you include or exclude the extras, as you please.

From the website:

DaggerfallSetup was created to install an easy, ready-to-play Daggerfall on modern Windows Systems.

The game is already patched with the 2.13 patch and the official CompUSA Special Edition questpack and runs with a pre-configured DosBox. In options, you can install many community fixes and new quests.

Like any Windows Setup, you can install Daggerfall anywhere on your computer. The setup can add a shortcut on your desktop, a folder in your start menu and a quick launch icon. Off course, you can uninstall Daggerfall as easily as you can install it.

Components Detail

Each component can be selected or not individually. Official component must be installed.
DOSBox is version 0.74. The Setup was done with Inno Setup 5.4.2.

All components are listed with the name of originals autors. Thanks for their work.

You can see more details in English on theses files on the UESP web page.

    * Search the line fullresolution=original and replace original with your screen resolution (1024x768 by example).
* Search the line scaler=normal2x and replace normal2x with normal3x, advmame2x, advmame3x, hq2x, hq3x, 2xsai, super2xsai, supereagle, advinterp2x, advinterp3x, tv2x, tv3x, rgb2x, rgb3x, scan2x or scan3x (You can see examples here).
* Save and exit "dosbox.conf".

It looks like Bethesda Softworks has officially released Daggerfall as freeware to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of The Elder Scrolls. They have a post about it on their blog. So now it's officially freeware, not just abandonware. It's funny how they kept on saying that they were not going to release it and then they suddenly post it. Daggerfall is one of the most amazing rpgs for its time so if you haven't got it yet, now's the time.

jodokast98, thanks for the links. I'm familiar with most of them, but its always welcome to find more. I agree about the modding community. I've been downloading stuff for both Morrowind and Oblivion for several months now and still haven't scratched the surface. Some of the mods are amazing such as Quarls texture pack and others such as Silgrad tower that add extra world areas adds a part of Morrowind and Topal Island that adds a lighthouse. I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the number availble to be honest. I've been looking for those that add extra world areas such as the one I mention above or new towns and cities. I wish Bethesda would extend the Elder Scrolls to another region of the Elder Scrolls world. I'd even love to see the first two redone to the standard of Oblivion; with the ability to combine all of them together into an even bigger sandbox world.

I used to be heavily involved with the BF2 community (Still admin one BF2 site and moderate another, though haven't visted in either in weeks) and have over 200Gb of mods and maps for that game. :) Then there's the uinreal tournament series. UT2004 was so heavily modded I'm still downloading stuff for that one ocassionally, though since UT2007 came out I've not played it much. I still can't decide which is better. I know UT2007 have far better graphics, but after playing UT2004 for so many years it kind of grows on you. :) It's because of the above that I keen a fileplanet founders club subscription alive ebven though I could buy one of the latest releases with the money I pay each year.

regards Stephen

I don't know about Daggerfall, but there is something called Morroblivion http://morroblivion.com/ that attempts to bring Morrowind into the Oblivion engine.

I love the Mod community surrounding the TES games. I'd recommend looking at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/ PlanetElderScrolls,
http://www.tesnexus.com/ TESNexus, http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/ DevNull (Mainly Fcom when it hits 1.0) for Mods and what not. As before, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page ElderScrolls Wiki provides a wonderful source on info for the TES games and has pages regarding mods for Oblivion and Morrowind.

Oblivion vanilla tends to cater to console gamers so it's leveling system is kind of silly. For instance all creatures level as you do, so at level 20 bandits now have the same items you do. I'd recommend Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Martigen's Monster Mod, Oblivion WarCry, or Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items to change the leveling. These make the game a little like Morrowind where you could walk into a dungeon and find a high level enemy you can't defeat and need to return latter.

====
Oh and for Fallout 3 http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/ PlanetFallout and http://www.fallout3nexus.com/ Fallout3Nexus are a good source of Mods since it's build upon a similar engine as Oblivion.

=====
Wiz_o_Oz: Yes Daggerfall is quite large. Morrowind takes place on the island of Vvardenfell part of the continent of Morrowind in Tamriel. Daggerfall takes place in Illiac Bay and has you visiting parts of the continents of High Rock and Hammerfell. Oblivion is the continent of Cyrodil. ( http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i201/Vality7/TamrielMap.jpg )

You're right about the land size being around twice as big. I read the same thing. It's a pity it isn't rendered the same, lol. I wonder if it was possible to re skin everything? It would probably be brilliant. I love the way all the series including the one that's not numbers (five in all) incorporate an imaginary world that's linked. The maps I got with Morrowind and Oblivion show the areas covered by Daggerfall and Arena, but there's little detail. I'd love to see all the previous games be brought up to the standard of Oblivion, but I doubt that would ever happen unless some enthusiasts got together to modify it.

I do love the Elder Scrolls series, though I'm still engrossed in the Fallout game so hasn’t returned to my game. I've just installed the Akatosh Mount mod for my son whose still playing the game, he's really taken with it because you can summon a dragon to ride upon with the mod. I've also installed a gun shop mod that sells (very very expensive) guns such as the blunder buss. Gunpowder is hard to come by and is also very expensive, so it really doesn't give you that much of an advantage. It’s a great idea. He's only just started to complete the Knights of the Nine quests and hasn't even been to the Shivering Isles, though he has found the portal (after cheating by checking up on the internet for a spoiler); which I've been trying to get him to stop as I think such things just take away from the games enjoyment and longevity.

I've only just started installing modifications of which there are hundreds, as I wanted to play the vanilla (pure) game first. My intention is to complete as much of the original game as possible, then install a plethora of modifications covering all aspects of the game, so that it will be almost like playing a new game. Though I don’t mind the odd adittion such as the ones I mention above. Some of the mods I intend to install when I’m nearer completing a lot of the quests include opening up the extremities of the map which have an invisible barrier (though there’s little to see apart from bare ground and a few trees and boulders), much improved graphics (the mod is around 1.5Gb), extra quests, new objects including armor, weapons, spells and ingredients for potions etc, plus a lot more. It reminds me of the Battlefield 2 game where you can download over 200Gb of modifications and maps to improve the game, though there was never a graphics improvement mod, which is a pity.

Regards

Muchos gracias Rabbit! I love TES! I think I found this once before and meant to download and forgot all about it. Thanks for bringing back to the front of my mind. Daggerfall actually has the largest land area in it's maps of the whole series. I think I read somewhere that Bethesda said that Morrowind was only half the size of the Daggerfall world.

Regards,

Thanks for the extra info' jodokast98.

Hi albesir, check out Wizzards post about how to use DOSBox, (It's in the games discussion forums)it links to a site that gives you a tutorial on how to set up DOSBox using Norton commander (both programs are free), that then makes it really simple to use. Do remember when placing games in the folder that's been added to the DOSBox config file, that names longer than 8 characters have to be shortened, so for example, if you place the Daggerfall folder in the DOS Games folder (that you are asked to set up if you follow the tutorial I mentioned), you'll need to shorten it otherwize Norton wont recognise it. I know it's a bit of a faf initially, but this is one f those games that are well worth the boyther (as is Darklands that I posted just over a month ago)

Never posted before...but I'll add some hints to possibly getting daggerfall working under DOSbox. The Elderscrolls wiki http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Running_Under_DosBox
has some helpful hints to getting it working.

I've got it working with memsize=64 under [dosbox] in dosbox.conf and then using -freesize 1024 when mounting my dosbox directory as c:\ "mount c C:\dosbox -freesize 1024" I also did a huge install, applied the 2.13 patch and created a run.bat script containing "
@echo off
set dos4gvm=@dagger.vmc
fall.exe z.cfg
"

Take a look at the Elderscrolls wiki for other tips and also tips on getting the other older Dos based games from the same series working.

====
The Underdog's link didn't work so look here: http://www.uesp.net/dagger/files/dagfiles.shtml for the CompUSA addon.

hey, Whiterabbit, I'm glad to see this one. I've never played the second Elder Scrolls game, so I'm looking forward to it. On the main download site, when it asks for the username and password, it IS case sensitive. I couldn't figure out if I was misspelling it or something, so I tried it in all uppercase lettering and it worked.

Aside from that, how did you get it to work? I've tried looking for some help online somewhere, but I can't read the info on the download sites if they said how to get it to work. I tried to find it other places online as well, but mostly I found others not being able to get it to work either, and couldn't find much help anywhere. It looks like if you have the original cds there's a patch to play on windows XP on the filefront page, but other than that I assume you need DOSBox, but I can't figure out how to make it work. I'm very confused over it for now, and I'm tired, so I think I'm just calling it a night and maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Anyway, if it works I'm sure it'll be great. Thanks.

I’ve got three games for you for Boxing Day (to the uninitiated Boxing Day is the 26th December) it’s celebrated in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The exact derivation of the name is uncertain but is believed to be one of the following practices which took place prior to the 14th century. The practice of the Lords and Ladies giving their servants boxes of presents on the day after Christmas day (probably left over food and unwanted clothing etc), or more likely priests, who opened the church's alms (charity) boxes on the day after Christmas and distributed the contents to the poor.

One of the games is a classic and has spawned one of the most successful modern RPG’s to date called Oblivion, though the one I’m posting details off and a download link for is the second Elder Scrolls game called Daggerfall. I posted The Elder Scrolls I in week four of the project, and intended to follow it up with this one shortly after, but for several weeks I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work. I’m amazed that you can buy the original game from between around $60 to $150 depending upon the condition, but those are from private sellers and not the original developer. So if you’re a collector of old games and insist on having the original discs and packaging you can get it if you go to the wiki link and follow through some of the links. I hope all the links aren’t too confusing. I’ve posted many of them because this is quite a complex game with a lot of game play to it. Some say it’s more expansive than Oblivion and Morrowind the games released after this one was made. I would definitely read the “Starting the game Guide” and the “Beginners Guide to Daggerfall”. If you downloaded the first one and enjoyed it, then you’ll like this one even more with it’s expansive story and greatly improved graphics, though no where near as graphically pleasing as Morrowind and Oblivion.

Elder Scrolls I: Arena:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3991

The second game is another physics based game that is very simple, but addictive and is called Towerball, and the final game was added at the last miute, only because it caught my eye as I was shutting down several pages, and is called Trans Am.

====================================================================

Elder Scrolls II:  Daggerfall:

A spectacular successor to The Elder Scrolls: Arena which introduces the fantasy world of Tamriel to RPGers, Daggerfall is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious and in-depth RPGs ever created.
As a single-player, real-time RPG, Daggerfall is literally packed with fantasy RPG elements and features, in addition to a HUGE 3D gameworld that encompasses millions of square miles, including dungeons, ruins, snow-filled plains, and even underwater(!) areas. Unlike most RPGs which are quite linear, Daggerfall virtually lets you create your own RPG story. You can be a valiant paladin, traditional protector of virtues. Or be a dark elf mercenary, wandering from town to town on horseback, with your bow always at the ready. You can even become a carefree thief, making your living by stealing valuables from people's houses at night. Similar to Darklands (which I’ve posted a couple of months ago), there is an overarching, uber plot you can follow to see the game's "ending," but you can just as easily spend countless hours following literally hundreds of sub-quests in the game.
One of Daggerfall’s hallmarks is the character creation system, which gives you unprecedented control over the process. Start off by choosing your race, background, class (or you can design your own), skills, physical attributes, and so on. You can even choose what your character is allergic to, hates, likes, etc., and all of these choices will effect gameplay. There are also no less than 27 different skills that your character can learn and use in the game, ranging from the serious to the frivolous. If that's not enough, Daggerfall is chock full of magical spells, weapons, armour, and magical artefacts. You can even create your own custom magical spells and items - the first fantasy RPG to offer this feature.
Of course, the game will be quite boring if there isn't much you can do with such an arsenal of weapons and spells. Fortunately, the world of Tamriel is brimming with life. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of NPCs to talk to and glean information from. Text dialog is used extensively in the game, and fans of TES: Arena will be happy to know that the repetitive, "stock" dialogue text that made most NPCs in Arena seem like clones of one another is gone. NPCs are much more diverse and interesting in Daggerfall, and even remember your previous dealings with them. Add to that a great 3D graphics engine (with weather effects such as rain and snow nicely simulated), countless monsters to slay, and many fascinating locations to discover, and you won't want to leave the world of Tamriel.
Daggerfall is one of the few RPGs that truly deserve the term "epic." If you are a hardcore RPGer who prefer a vast, virtually non-linear game to one with tightly-knit storyline, Daggerfall is the nirvana you've been waiting for, and a bona fide classic in every respect. Too bad the sequel Battlespire is very disappointing. Here's hoping that the upcoming next game in the series, long-awaited Morrowwind, will be a true heir to Daggerfall legacy.
Note: As if the game's mind-boggling length isn't enough, Bethesda released a "special patch" for the game that adds several new extra quests, new artefacts, and a lot more cool secrets to the game. Shortly after that, the patch was made available to everyone from Bethesda's ftp server. I highly recommend you apply the patch

DOWNLOADS:

Please note: I think you need to register for a free subscription before you can download files from the links to fileplanet, though the main game isn’t available from fileplanet, so if you’re having problems getting any of the files it’s not important. Most, apart from the music files are available elsewhere. .– I have had a paid subscription for several years, so can’t really remember exactly what procedure you have to follow to get the downloads from fileplanet. I do remember that you are limited to one download at a time and that they are rate limited, which means that you get the slowest servers. – If I have time I will try and find more details and /or download links, but I’m sure you can appreciate that having to re-do all of the games I’ll be posting over the Christmas vacation is a little tedious. :) )

Download Daggerfall: (125Mb)

The initial download link is partway down the page above the orange “Review the Game” button. This takes you to a second page where you’ll find the download link. There’s a login and password that you need to input before you can get the download to start. These are easily seen and are in a blue slightly larger font to the surrounding information. Just click on the French word Telecharger meaning download.

Alternate download link (this one has DOSBox included, but I had difficulty getting it to run for some reason – the game started, but I couldn’t get it to work after that as it appeared to freeze. It’s worth trying if the first link is blocked due to bandwidth problems as it may have been a problem at my end.

Towerball:

Towerball is an entry for LD12 (www.ludumdare.com), a 48 hour game programming competition. The goal of the game is to guide two balls connected by a string to a yellow target. Set your trajectory and speed using the mouse, then left-click to fire and right-click to dampen your shot.
Climb the tower, gathering as many points as possible on your way to the goal. To maximize points, hit as many walls as possible while being careful not to spend too much power. Each shot uses 1-7 levels of power, and when the power is out, you cannot shoot. Once a wall has been hit, it will light up, indicating that you have gotten points for hitting it. In the first few levels you also get a slight amount of power for each wall you hit. Your final score is 2*(number of walls hit) + (remaining power).

It’s above the image in the first post of the forums. You’ll be able to glean more information from the posts following the first one:
