For future ref, HandyTech, tis always better to provide a URL that doesn't go directly to the download itself, so that people can read any intro/specs/reviews rather than be faced with an autodownload. In this case, some might misinterpret the "Win95" part of your URL... reportedly, Crossword Writer works on any Win version.

FWIW, about a half hour after your post (which a MOD apparently just erased for the reason I mention above), that Babble Deluxe link was bouncing, too.

UPDATE: The site came back up as the new hour rolled around, so I'm thinking Simon Bates must be using a free Geocities acct that allows approx 4MB worth of downloads per hour before exceeding the threshold Yahoo sets to try to upsell accounts to their crappy service.

Wabbit, Bates' UK site isn't accessible (to me), but since the Geocities page states "You may make as many copies of it as you like (unmodified), and pass it on freely", I don't see why you couldn't add it to FileFront.

lmao very nice midori. It is actually a little comical to think about all the people waiting for the new post. I used to be like them though, not so funny to think about anymore. Since I checked the link again just now, the site is active once again. My advice is if you are having trouble accessing the site, keep trying periodically through the day.

lol.

Babbel is as good as some similar commercial releases. Everyones just going to have to be patient and keep trying. If the problems persist I could ask for permission to upload it to filefront, but that may take some time as I'm so far behind in keeping up with Emails and promises that I've made that it's got to be a low priority right now.

Wow, it's 5:50AM EST USA, and the link is down again! I got it right after Whiterabbit posted it, but by the time Wizz tried it was down. And it does say possible capacity problems. And being this is the second time a site has gone down after it was posted here, I'd tend to think it IS a bombardment of the site. So gee, Sir Rabbit... you have no idea of the huge following you perhaps do have! People that actually post to say "thanks" are but a rare few on any forum, so picture it: people biting their nails impatiently in all corners of the earth waiting for THE RABBIT to post; as sites crash and crumble to their foundations from the heavy traffic, while webmasters scratch their beards in bewilderment. Such power he wields, with the flick of a whisker and the stroke of a key. Then innocently joins the Mad Hatter for tea. :-D

Hi, Wabbit, hi Wizz, thanks for the games! They should improve my English skills - hopefully.
Both run without hassle on Vista.
I could download Babble, but unfortunately not the language pack.
However, you can edit the dictionary and create your own lists.

As of right now, the Babble Deluxe site is down. I'm getting errors on said page. I was unable to find an alternative download for this game either. All other sites are down as well. Maybe bandwidth issues since it is geocities? Hopefully the site will be back up soon because I want to have a go at Babble Deluxe.

Thanks for these games Stephen, can't wait to give Babble a go.

As promised, here are the two word games I mentioned a few weeks ago to keep you busy over the next few days:

Babble Deluxe: (1.67Mb)

Babble Deluxe is a freeware word game. Find as many words as possible within the time limit. The letters used must be adjacent to each other and cannot be used more than once per word. Play alone for the highest score or play against the five computer players.

NEW FEATURES
Full screen display (1024x768). Updated visuals. Simplfied user interface. Multiple soundtracks. Improved artificial intelligence. More in-game sound effects, 70000 English Word dictionary (official scrabble dictionary), Game statistics, additional language packs and more...

Languages supported : English, French, Italian, African, Czech, Japanese, Norwegian and Polish.

Unfortunately I can’t say whether this game is supported by Vista. The game unzips to an executable. A shortcut is automatically installed onto the desktop, but not in the start menu.

Download Link:

http://www.geocities.com/simonbates666/

=====================================================================

Crossword writer:

Crossword Writer is the complete solution for crossword authors, editors and publishers. Crossword Writer 1.00 automatically searches for words that fit in puzzles, automatically adds new words and clues to your database, automatically remembers the clues you use most, prints in a commonly accepted format suitable for publishing, saves puzzles with information valuable to everyone involved in the process, adapts editing characteristics to match your style, loads and exits fast with no advertisements or other delays, does not make any changes to your Windows(r) registry, allows you to create any size of crossword puzzle up to 50x50, and is completely free of any charge. Crossword Writer 1.00 does not access the internet for any reason, and is guaranteed to be compatible with all future versions. This is a complete program, and the capabilities are immense when you see that version 1.00 only requires a 300mhz processor, 1 MB of disk space, 128 MB of RAM and 800x600 resolution. Crossword Writer has been designed to manage the entire sum of all the crosswords ever created, and will still use minimal computer resources and operate faster, with perfect reliability.

There’s no shortcut installed, so you’ll need to make a note of where it was installed so that you can create your own shortcut. If you’re not sure how to do this there’s a short tutorial somewhere in the games discussions thread.
