BK, I wasn't pickin' on ya! Cleaning isn't what I do best either. Trying to get someone else to do it was worth a shot. :)

Rune, Shucks! I was hopping for a true tale, but you did write a great scam letter. Perhaps you should have a go at it yourself. Wonder what the Nigerian weather is like this time of year? LOL I'm looking forward to that dinner. :D

Bcklysmum - Sorry, I don't even clean my own home. However, I do write for a living. While it may seem a waste of time, dashing off roughly 550 words actually takes less than 10 mintues. Waiting for malware scans to conclude and free up system resources offers brief opportunities to squeeze out a brain toot. Stringing/streaming words together exercises my brain and fingers, akin to a musician or athelete warming up. All work and no wordplay makes Rune a grumpy boy. The typos were intentional, a spoof of the original email's poor command of English. OTOH, punctuation errors were likely accidental as I've long since accepted that senility and grammar/style conventions don't mix.

Rune......I had to stop reading due to, "Nobody else is authorized to read further!", but I just have to say.......you've got waaaaaayyyyyyyy to much time on your hands. So if you should need something to keep yourself busy I have lots of housework you could do for me. After all, I'm way to tied up reading things that are just for Maizey, playing free games that drive me up the wall, reading and answering silly emails and posting in goofy forums to get anything done around here. My broom and mop await your arrival, hope you can squeeze them into your schedule. Thanks

Just for you, Maizey.
Nobody else is authorized to read further! Stop it. You've been warned! If you do, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law according to the Patriot Act. I mean it.

Maizey, the dismal economy notwithstanding, luck has shined upon me as I am in receipt of a most opportune email offer from a respected lawyer who has selected me (ME!!) to perform a simple task in return for a lot of money. I eagerly responded, and look forward to treating you to a fancy birthday dinner next year should things proceed smoothly... and how could they not?:

Dear Honorable Sir Spitzer, Esq.

I am deeply apologizing for the delay in responding to your generous proposal, but we have been very busily engaged in repatriating several other large sums to living relatives of deceased people who unfortunately expired intestate after painfully long illnesses or surprise political assassinations. By jove, your countrymen certainly produce many dead rich people!

We are always so much happy to help that we have developed a standard operating procedure (herein known as our Clan D-Styne SOP) and have carefully cultivated a supremely efficient and convivial reputation, not to mention we are known for being very very very discreteful. I presume this must be why you contacted us, correct? Our reputation precedes us, yes? Do you happen to know Barrister Leroy McIlarney of Leeds, Enland UK, or perhaps you're acquainted with The Right Royal Paynein D. Assol of Petticote de'Junction? We have favorably concluded monetary, precious metals and real estate type property transfers totalling several dozens of millions of dollars (US) for both of these fine legal attorneymen.

This your proposal should work out greatly for both you and we, as the offer of 40% of $29.5 million simply for having the same last name as your deceased dead client is almost exactly what we require to complete and finish our magnificent mansion on the shores of Tripoli.

Please note one oversight - you did not specifically to address either myself or my partner by exact surname reference. Thusly, and to make sure and ascertain absolutely and beyond all shadow of unwholesomeness doubt that your offer is not a bad hoax, please would you to email to us the correctly spelled last name of the aforementioned and above referenced deceased family member so that we may verify that it (the name) does indeed matches one of us in the exactness of identicality? In effectual, please advise if you are seeking the personal redhanded cooperation of Maynard G. Krebs (me) or Miss Antoinette Funicello? (my wife, partner and mother of my 5 children)

Thank you for including us in your widely distributed missive. Immediately and as soon as we hear from you or even sooner except if it arrives on a religious holiday, we will be ready to establish and create an expeditiously more formal and reliable method of covert communication, preferably through our constabulary. We recognize that time is running out fast to enemanize the bank vault where the monies are "lodged tight" like an impacted colon.

NOTE: To make your email stands out from lesser known emailings of which we receive many many, PLEASE PUT ON SUBJECT LINE:
URGENT CLAN D-STYNE MONEY TRANSFER

With all due respectfullys, I remain,

Maynard G. Krebs

Anyway.....you got me! BTW someone else really deserves the credit for this thread....it was a little birdie who flew by and whispered in my ear and said,"Psssspsspppssssspsspppssssspssss".

Ah! Still more well wishes, gifts and cakes from my wonderful friends. Thank you all for being so kind. :)

WR - My first semester is almost over - final exams are next week. Whew! The new semester won't begin until the middle of Jan 2009. I hope to catch up with everyone while on break.

BK - "Birhday"??? LOL Didn't think that I'd notice. Did you? :D Thanks for starting this, lady! You are one of a kind. I liked the cake story too. Tell your Dad "Happy Birthday!" from a fellow Sagittarius.

Somethinglox - I spied all your other posts in several other threads too. Sweet. Love that cake above. The mouse-over comments are fun. :)

Robert - You went all out! That's a lot of cake (huge!) and some great entertainment, as well. Everything is yummy. :)

Rune - The posies are lovely (and purple), and the cakes look delicious (and purple). I like flowers and cake (in purple)! LOL! Thank you in advance. Oh, and your near disaster episode is hilarious. Please tell more stories like this. I could use a few more laughs. :D

Everyone else - Thank you, thank you, thank you! There sure are some terrific people in this forum. Now stick around and finish eating all this cake! :)

The heck with belated birthday wishes, I'm going to be EARLY for once!

Happy Next Birthday, Maizey

May you enjoy posies and cake and more cake and then, many many more happy years.

~ Rune

PS: I had one of those "calorie-free" cakes once. My ex baked her very first cake for my birthday. A triple decker, looked a bit unlevel but I sure wasn't going to say a word. Candles were lit, we stood there silently enjoying the tiny flickering firestorm, I started to make a wish, when suddenly...
jagged cracks began to form in the icing, then the cake split into about 5 pieces, each sliding away from each other while we attempted to prevent a fire. This, of course, she could have done by herself as she burst into tears. I think her mom eventually 'splained what caused the disaster; but she stuck to baking safe, one-layer brownies from then on.
Ah, good times, good times.

Hoss......funny you should say that......my sister-in-law brought a cake in one of those glass cake safes with a pedestal base. She had it on the floor between her feet and my brother had to brake a bit hard at one point so it tipped over. She blamed him for braking too hard but all I could think was just how dumb do you have to be to carry around one of those glass, pedestal things? You'd think she never heard of Tupperware ......duh! So anyway, like you said, those calories were GONE!!! I even checked to see if they were stuck to the lid along with all the icing but nope, they were completely gone......as was the cake once we vultures got at it.

Hey Maizey....just got the word that your birthday was back on the 3rd and I wanted to wish you belated greetings. I know going back to school has kept you busy and you haven't gotten here to the forums much lately but hopefully you'll see this today.

As it turns out my dad's 80th birthday is tomorrow and we're having a party for him today. I know you've got a way to go before you hit that age but I'd be more than happy to eat an extra piece of cake for you anyway. Would you prefer carrot, vanilla or chocolate? What's that? You'd like to try each one.....hey NO PROBLEM! ;)

Hope all you guys out there will join me in some belated wishes for Maizey. Tell me what flavor cake you'd like and and I'll eat a piece for you too. YUM YUM! (I know I'll pay tomorrow......but it'll be worth every last crumb. Besides.....I'll make sure I drink diet soda with each slice. :)))) Not that it matters anyway because everyone knows that cake that's eaten before or after the actual day has no calories.
