Hey all...
I was surfing about the internet and happened to think about looking at the Gore website and thought I would let you all know what I had found...

Scooter: They apparently had a run on the game and there is a posting on the main page about your problem. Sounds like it should be fixed now.

Also, they have several sites you can go to to download the game for free. They may offer a faster download than the one that Wizz gave us, but I do not know for sure. I know that this game is REALLY nice and I find myself playing it often trying to get better. I have always wanted to play FPS and never found that I have been quick enough or able to get use to it before I am ganged up on by veterans. Yet, with the training mode I seem to be able to work at it before trying online. Anywhooo, I will paste the link and you all can take a look if you want:

WR, unless I am mistaken or have done something wrong, it looks like I have to request a key from the company before this will run for me?

Let me clarify, this is not the premium key, but rather whatever type of key the game apparently requires to run, I get this on the opening screen every time I try to launch the game. I also have given the game Internet access for updates - which it grabbed several of initially, but no key.

I downloaded this the other day.. son #2 played it and liked it. Son #1 watched, played and then promptly downloaded it to his pc. Now they are dividing their time between Gore and WoW ;-) Any time they are fighting together vs fighting with each other is a plus in my book!

Thank you!

Looks like it will be a great game Wizzard! Thanks again.. looks like something I will be addicted to (again) for a bit. Wanted to make sure to post my thanks and let you know that all that you two do is appreciated even if we occasionally forget to say so. Yet, that is the problem with a good free download (at least imho) I get involved in the game and forget to come back and say thanks! That is why I am doing it now while it is downloading ;)

Thanks Wizzard. It's a fun game.
Oh, and thank you to Whiterabbit. He was barely the only one who ever left any feedback on the screen-savers I posted.
Again, Thanks to all of you,
PS I'll be offline for maybe a month in a couple days, so don't be surprised if you don't see me at all.

This isn't a bad little shooter for free. If you don't have any recent FPS games and I mean from around four years onwards, then this is definitely a must have in my opinion. Thanks Wizzard.

Today’s game is called Gore: Ultimate Soldier. Gore is a FPS that feels a lot like Unreal or Quake. I actually used to own this game, but ended up giving it to a friend because he didn’t have any games. The special edition was released as freeware to the public with both single player, and multi-player.

Gore is a very quick-styled shooter where stamina is everything. The player's ability to move quickly and jump high is affected by the stamina system. Stamina is usually lost when running or jumping, but being injured by weapons also does a toll on it. How much stamina lost is affected by several factors, such as the player class being used or the weapon currently being held. Smaller classes can move quicker and regenerate stamina faster, but they cannot run with heavy weapons or they will tire quickly. Larger classes, although much slower and bigger targets, can move with heavier weapons with more endurance. Players show signs of fatigue by decreased movement speed and heavy breathing, which clearly indicates to enemies nearby where that player is and his lack of stamina. If a player's stamina goes below zero, he will black out completely and fall to the ground unconscious for a short period of time. This is actually a rather unique addition to FPS’s that I think should be added to more games.

Also adding to the game play, is the ability to destroy some of the area. Picture a shootout online and your injured opponent is going after a health pack. Simply shoot the health pack and watch it explode, killing him in the process. You can also shoot fire extinguishers, gas tanks, and even ammo boxes can be exploded. The character is free to climb trees, gutters, and vines.

The campaign does get rather repetitive, though. There are only a few types of enemies with the same bodies and faces. I know this is rather common in shooters, but it just feels weird when you can put the same facial features on all the enemies. In other games, they give the enemies helmets to trick you into thinking that it might be a different character.

If you enjoy online deathmatches or ctf, then you should definitely check the multi-player out. It isn’t uncommon to find a group of dedicated players that still play this online. The multi-player is where Gore excels, in my opinion. Multi-player game types include: dm, ctf, team dm, extermination, assault, escape and infiltration, co-operative campaign, and duel. Duel mode is a dm, but only involving two people at a time. All others are in a queue and watch as the battle unfolds. When a player loses, he moves to the end of the queue and the next person in line plays the winner. This mode was created by a player/programmer, and DreamCatcher Games liked it so much that they included in the game.

Overall, if you enjoy old-school FPS’s and online dm’s, you should definitely give this game a look. I score this game at a 7/10. The game could do with some better graphics, and varying enemies. The download size is rather larger at 512mb so it will be a really long day for those on dial-up. I would suggest watching the video that I provided to decide if you would enjoy this game. The video is of the first level.
