Okay, the SmartDiary-Giveaway-Day is over, however, sometimes a user comes back to find an alternative to the Giveaway. I just remembered this :

http://www.programming.de/superdiary.php

Though it is shareware you can use it without limitations.
Quote from the developer:
...
* That means: you can try the program as long as you like.
* The program is not limited or crippled in it's features in the trial version and the trial version does not expire.
* There are no disabled features, no annoying popup windows, no hidden spyware or adware features (the only difference is a splash screen, asking you to register if you use it regularly).
...

Hi, watcher13 and welcome to the forums.
Many thanks for trying to help.
Though I am one of the users who wrote about the missing FM-part in this program, I do not think I actually will use a computer program to monitor my illness. It is hard enough to cope with FM in daily life so I am not motivated at all to print charts which show me in red and blue how crappy I'm feeling. Sorry this is such a day :( However, sometimes is a diary needed, for new meds e.g., then I use a long time proofed method: p&p - pen and paper; it's portable, you don't need a blackberry version or an update. My doc has learnt my handwriting as I had to learn his.
You can get med-/pain-diaries from your doc, therapist, pharmacist, insurance, FM-Association for € 0.00. I admit that others have other requirements.

I understand what you are saying.

As for the no comment button: I have no idea what is up. I run Firefox so I have never had a problem myself but I just checked it with internet explorer I see what you mean. I think the problem may be with my theme. I will troubleshoot it when I get home.

Oh, sorry again to be so wordy, but actually, I generally only download from file dump type sites when I can't find the developers page. That's still almost always the best place to download from.

Thanks for your reply watcher13. Most appreciate alternate links to other freeware that may be more in tune with what they need. We all know its a "Buyer Beware" even though most are free.

Thanks again for the links (even though I don't need them as of yet LOL).

Best wishes,

Hey Ashraf, If you come back, just saw you're great review on this (though I noticed it's not up in the comments yet, either). Off topic: I can't seem to comment on your site? The submit button (or whatever) doesn't show up on my screen. I'm pretty sure I've got the latest Java: 6.10. I'm using IE7. Is your's maximized for Firefox or something? I've only managed to post one comment, and that was after feeling around with my mouse in the white space and stumbling below the comment box and stumbling on the link. That only worked for me once, though. ??? Keep up the good work.

Just in case I wasn't clear, Ashraf, I'm hoping the people who need this software will be inspired to do their own legwork. Since I don't need it, I'm not going to go that far. I tend to check for software alternatives, unless they're already posted in the comments, in case the giveaway may be of a rare enough type that I might want to download for later. In case my needs change in the future. Sorry if I get wordy, I'm big on trying to be clear.

Actually, I think you good folks are both right. Just to be clear, because I don't need this kind of software, YET (starting to get up there, though), I'm only posting links. I'm not recommending or certifying anything. I'm afraid, however, the people who need it, won't check back into the comments section and see these links. My comment there is still awaiting moderation. I'm like both of you, I'm conscious of the sites I'm downloading from and believe in scanning everyhting, too. Thanks for the comments.

What do you mean by "reliable" Lakjin? Do you mean longevity? After clicking on a few of the links it appears to be shareware sites. If your talking about malicious software included in downloads, you can get that anywhere in fact its happened here.

You mention your rule of thumb well I wouldn't have started downloading from here if I used yours. Now here's my rule of thumb. Scan everything you download with a reliable antivirus/malware/spyware software if you don't have a scanner already doing it.

Hello,

Thanks for posting the links, but do you know how reliable those websites are that you used to find these programs? I am interested.

I have a rule of thumb that I do not download programs from websites such as the ones you mentioned above - I stick to verified websites like download.com. You never know what you are downloading. Can't be too safe, especially when it is concerning medical information.

Finally decided to join to post a one day topic. I've seen that some folks (there are probably a lot of folks who need this) are expressing the need for medical PIM or medical tracking software alternatives to Smart Diary Suite, because of the price for the full version. I haven't found much that looks like an appropriate PIM freeware, and I'm relunctant to post other suggestions in the comments because I don't have the same medical needs. I think it's still legitimate to post other software over in comments, although I think it's best if you do it by mentioning that the feature set is the same or better, or by even spelling out the feature set of the software you recommend. But, since I don't know what features the folks really need - and am not going to test the alternatives - I don't feel qualified to post any alternatives over in comments. To be fair, Smart Diary Suite seems to have the medical PIM market mostly to itself.

So, to avoid that ticklish issue, I'm going to post this topic with a link over in comments (I suspect they'll approve it). I probably won't moderate this much, since I don't need the software, but this way, maybe the people with a big need and a fixed income can find an alternative here. If you know one, please feel free to post.

Obviously, if folks just want a reminder, practically all PIM and alarm software can be made to remind you take your meds.

This is what I found:
for those that only need tracking and not reminders, there's a freeware alternative in the freeware library called "Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" that, though it's set up for those, seems to have customizable features that can be used for any medical need. Note: went to their website, and this is provided by a U.K. medical business that deals with these issues and I don't see any software links on the front page. So, there may be no support and you might want to watch if it connects to the internet (probably won't).

Also note: I'm posting these in the order I found them, so scroll down for PIMs.
Here's two pages of various medical tracking freeware:
http://www.freeware.softlow.com/palm-os/medical/

PocketRX is a Pocket PC medical PIM, released in 2003, that was $25 shareware, but appears to be abandonedware. Can't trace the company anymore. They've abandoned their web domain. You can download it a lot of places, including: http://www.filesweb.com/nickellie_llc/
of course, you should screen for malware

Here's are some pages of medical needs tailored software:
http://www.freevistafiles.com/search/medication/
http://www.handyarchive.com/free/medication/
http://idownload.ws/Medication/software
http://www.fileflash.com/program/33166/.html
http://www.newfreedownloads.com/find/medication.html

and, just because I stumbled on it, here's a first aid and drug guide for Blackberry:
http://blackberry.handmark.com/p/2006/Database/PocketDoc--First-Aid-Tool-and-Medication-Guide-for-BlackBerry/

Hope this helps. :)
