Thanks for this great game!
Though I do not like to play with the keyboard, I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with this game. The graphics are great and so is the sound (especially the cry when he again falls down into the great nothing, cause the jump was too short...).
Trailer: “Flipside”
Love it!

No problem ibwebb, it's been a pleasure so far. Like Whiterabbit, I love pc games. In the last year alone, I've spent well over $1,000 on new titles. Being able to point people in the right direction for free games, is a rewarding experience (especially since so many people express their appreciation.) Tomorrow's game is a throwback to my youth that hopefully many people will enjoy as much as I did and still do.

Thanks Wizzard! Downloaded easy, followed the directions and got to the game without problem, and was playing in no time. Love the game already and can see why you are addicted. I had some trouble stopping so I could type this *chuckle*. Awesome game to start and can't wait to see what else you have to offer. BTW I want to go ahead and say that I really appreciate you helping WhiteRabbit out and helping all of us out with the freebies.

Okay, yes you need to burn bin/cue files in order for them to work (I don't work with iso's.) GOTD gave away Starburn a short while ago and that would do a terrific job of burning these files. Nero also does image burning if you have this software. Other than those, there are many more burners out there for free that should have this ability.

Good answer but that would be on that particular game. Some I've gotten are cue/bin, as opposed to .exe so that's why I asked. Oh well, guess I'll have to do some googling. *-)

Bin is just the folder. The folder is called bin. Then you open the folder called release. This seams to be a common install spot for newer games. As to files with that end in .bin, I have no idea as all games I have come across are an exe.

No, this is just the subdirectory. Sorry to be so vague. the path should be Games/Flipside/Bin/Release/Flipside.exe Hope that clears it up for you.

wizzard... question for you. You mentioned open file "bin".. I've got a couple of games that came through as cue/bin .. does that mean I have to burn them to a CD to install? Otherwise I don't know how to get them to work. Any suggestions?

Yes, I'm getting rather hooked on this game. The later levels get a little more grand in exactly how you're supposed to solve the board. I'm actually stuck, because I can't figure out how to make the jump lol.

Nice one Wizzard. I'll be trying this one out after I've had a good sleep. I's after 4 am here in the UK and I'm about to get an imprint of the keyboard on my forehead, lol.

The Swedish student seem to come up with some excellent games. There's another one that I've got penned in a cople of weeks that was made by Swedish students.

Thanks again for joining the team, and for making a brilliant start. :)

regards

Whiterabbit

Edit,

I couldn't resist checking the game out before I turned in and am really impressed. I don't know what the later levels are like but the first level reminded me of a game FreewareFan posted back in January called Stopple. However today's game looks ten times better.

This is definitely a must have for puzzle fans.

This is definitely going to go in my games library.

Today’s game is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Flipside of the divine is a puzzle game that the authors’ site describes as:

“Flipside of the divine is a unique action game set in the world of the ancient Aztec mythology. You play the role of an eagle warrior and your goal is to find a way through the dangerous and deceptive world of the gods. By manipulating platforms and flipping enemies down into the abyss you use both your mind and your fighting skills to get to the portal that will take you to the next level!”

This game was the project of some university students in Sweden. The object of the game is to use your special powers (sending an eagle out from in front of you) to flip over up to 5 panels so you can make it to the portal. The game starts out rather easy with tutorials on the first couple of levels, and then gradually gets harder. By the end you’ll be having to juggle not only flipping over the panels, but fire spaces that burn your birds; enemies that hop around the board trying to get you to fall through; enemies that eat away at the panels; tornadoes that send your bird in different directions; and more. Flipside challenges you to think outside the box and mind your full surroundings.

Gameplay is a mix of puzzler and platform, due to the fact that you’re running and jumping most of the game. Graphics are a little dated, but certainly not bad for a group of students. Controls can be reconfigured to your specifications. Personally, I prefer to “shoot the bird” with my mouse and run and jump with the keyboard. This game is also great for using a gamepad, (via xpadder http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/687) although you might want one with analog sticks to control the camera. Camera angles are set by default to be overhead, but with the roll of a mouse wheel it can be first person or anything in between. There is a pretty cool look at how the game progressed at the authors’ site. It’s interesting to see just how much was accomplished by looking at the screenshots.

Another plus to the game is that it includes a level editor! Even if you beat the game, you can create your own boards. It comes already installed with 3 custom created maps, for extra flipping.

The download is 46mb’s, so it’s going to be a long day for those on dial-up. Trust me though, the wait will definitely be worth it if you like puzzle games. Once you unzip to your designated destination, just open the file, bin, and then release. The exe is called Flipside. There is no shortcut made for the desktop so you’ll either need to save somewhere that you’ll remember, or create a shortcut. A rendering screen will come up for you to adjust your settings, and then you will be on your way.

Overall, I give this game a 9/10. I took 1 point off for lack of music. I would have liked to have a little something to listen to while I play, but then there’s always last.fm!

Download and screenshots:
