Whiterabbit,

I also look for your reviews of games offered to see if the game is any good or not. I really appreciate your reviews, and I appreciate the free games project you started so those of us who love games could have a new offering every day. You have always rocked in my opinion, even though I don't often say so. Seeing your posts make me smile. Just so you know.

I am glad you found someone who can help you out on your project, Wizzard of Ozz, I am sure you will do wonderfully. Enjoy your collaboration.

Yeah, Wizzard were a great 70's band fronted by that talented if somewhat eccentric looking (nothing wrong with that - you should have seen what I looked like back then, lol) Roy Wood, formerly of a band called Electric Light Orchestra, or ELO for short. He actually departed ELO because he was getting all the credit and felt that joint writer of ELO songs and original band member Jeff Lynne deseved more (this is absolutely true). I'm sure he makes a mint out of his Xmas song that was released around 1973 (I think), which is played every year around Christmas, usually before or after Slades Christmas song (these are UK bands, so you may not know of them if you live in the US or elsewhere).

Talking about The Move. They had the very first single every played on the British BBC radio 1 show. I can still remeber one of their singles being played on ?Top of the Pops, and thinking how strange they looked. Four band members sitting crossed legged siging one of their songs (can't remember which now though) .... it was very psychedelic though.

Stephen;
I too want to add my sincere thanks and gratitude for your efforts - many times I have followed your excellent advice and found your information to be spot-on accurate and very helpful - moreso than 99.99% of the commenters on the GAOTD and GGAOTD boards!

As a matter of fact, I just created this account just so I could post this, because I want you to know that despite any disparaging comments others have made, there are many of us who understand and greatly appreciate what you do, even if we don't always take the time to let you know.

As a disabled old computer geek, I'm often called on to help others solve problems with hardware or software, and I know the value of good feedback AND the occasional 'thank you', so you have it from me because you deserve it - THANK YOU STEPHEN, FOR ALL YOU DO, and please don't let them get to you, - keep up your valuable input no matter!

I will admit that sometimes I open a new offering page and scan the comments solely to see what you have to say about that day's ware, and I'll make a decision based on your recommendation with complete confidence, because I understand what you do before you post - it's the same way I like to do things! Plus, I want you to know this is not some 1st-time newb post - I've already posted several "THANK YOU, STEPHEN's" under my usual handle, 'JL', just so you know...

I'll be following your collaboration from now on, and perhaps chiming in if I can, because I often try wares out on 2 of my machines, under Win98 and XPPro, in deference to the people who still use those operating systems and ask me for help with them, so maybe I'll have a bit to add from time to time.

Again, thank you, and trust that your efforts do NOT go to no avail; you're a trusted and valued member of this community - and WoO is in good company!

John

They were a great laugh, Roy Wood and Wizzard - never took himself seriously, did Roy. Great bloke.
Roy Wood was also a founder member of 60's band "The Move" and the originator of E.L.O. (Electric Light Orchestra) Love both bands music. You would too !

No, I'm afraid I'm not the same one Phil. I've not heard of the British band, but I will check them out. Who knows, I could become a fan.

I've hopefully got a great game for tomorrow that many people will give a chance and enjoy as much as I do. It's a little different from what has been presented to us in the past, but official giveaway and un-official.

I'm really pleased Steve posts what he does.
Most of the stuff I'm not interested in, but am really grateful he does what he does !
The critics are lower than cesspits in my opinion.
(And if they want to call me up on that by all means - but I bite back....)

Wizz - are you the same gent that used to be on the Harry Potter newsgroups ?
A gent and a scholar he was, and helpful to a fault.

I'm a big baseball nut Campy and my favorite player of all-time is Ozzie Smith and that is his nickname. I put the extra z's in both wizzard and ozz because I figure since his name is OZZie that Wizard should have two z's too lol.

I've been here quite awhile too Stephen, just haven't gotten involved like you have. You have a big following here with the people of this forum. You're very much loved and appreciated on this site.

I don't post much here, but I do check GAOTD give-aways on a daily basis & the forums here a few times a week. I love both the software & games offered by this site (well, not literally every software/game, but just the fact that they're made available free to us here!), and was disappointed when GAOTD had to start offering games on weekends only.

for that last reason I was extra-pleased to see that Whiterabbit started posting his free game finds in the forums on the weekdays, and now I'm pleased to see that Wizzard of Oz has joined in to help the Wabbit with this task. huge appreciation to both of you now for putting in all the time & effort to do this for everybody's benefit :).

Thanks Webmaster.

As for those comments; I was shocked when I read those as well. But I half expected them. I did go off on a rant about no one seemingly being bothered. and as I was doing it voluntarily I shouldn't expect anything anyway. I'd just had a few bad days and felt a little low, so after seeing that there appeared to be no interest in the games I was posting, I just wrote a rant, lol. When you rant you can usually expect there to be extremes of opinion thrown back at you.

I do think that the applications section has a different crowd, many of which are not into gaming at all. Also I think some think that I have ulterior motives or are making something on the side for posting the games, which is not the case. Everything I do here is because I enjoy it. I get nothing in return except for a good feeling when someone says something pleasant to me. :)

later........ it's time for me to retire for the night or watch a good film or maybe even visit the Capital Wastelands (post apocalyptic Washington DC in Fallout 3) - man what an amazing game its turning out to be.

Some almost seemed to hate you, which I can't believe.
I'd read comments on the front page, and you'd just alert people that the game of the day has been posted, and people would say things like,
"This is not the place for posting games,"
or,
"Go to some other website if you want to post games whiterabbit. You can spam there."
I thought,
"Lets leave that to the moderator. If the moderator thinks it's okay, then it's none of your business, and if you are really that hurt, contact GOTD privately, and give them your spam."
You do a loyal job, and I'm glad you've got help. If I weren't moderator I'd be happy to help, but being moderator is enough for me.

Yes, it definitely was. I almost packed it in a few times, but what stopped me was the kind words people posted and the fact that I'd already searched, downloaded installed and tested most of the games I've got to post. Though I'm finding games frequently all the time. It would have been a shame to have wasted all that effort.

This week see’s the start of a collaboration between myself and Wizzard of Oz, who has kindly agreed to help me with the free weekday games project. I must admit that I was getting very jaded posting games virtually every day, even when I needed to rest, or do other thing. Yeah, I know, I could easily had not bothered, but once starting such a project I feel there's some responsibility to be taken and I did feel that not posting would let people down. Which I suppose I did when the connection problems occured the other week. This may have been evident to some by the fact that it took me nearly two weeks to fix it, thus suspending the project until I got back online. Hopefully with two of us that should no longer happen.

From this week we will be sharing responsibility for posting free games. For the first week we will be posting a game each every other day except Friday when we have decided to post a game each (you lucky gamers lol), then from next week (Mon 24th November), Wizzard will post games each day for a week, then I will the following week and so on until we either get fed up, others offer to help or we run out of suitable freeware and abandonware games. (Which despite large numbers, are finite – there may be thousands available, but only around 5% to 10% of those are probably worth posting in these forums, {qualitative assessment}).

I hope that this meet with everyone’s approval. I personally think it will bring a fresh perspective to the project as Wizzard of Oz will no doubt have differing tastes to my own as well as have found different sources, though I know that some of the games we intend posting have already clashed. That isn’t a problem though as this is for you and not a friendly competition to see who posts what, so we will be sharing what we have, so that no game is posted twice.

We hope to bring you as diverse a range of games as possible within the limitations of what there is available for free. I can say from my own searches that there are particular genres that have abundant supplies of games such as the platform based shooters and the older RPG style games, so please forgive the higher number of these that crop up. I personally am finding it difficult finding many decent free puzzle games apart from lots of Sudoku games, lol. Though the majority of the official weekend game giveaways tend to be puzzle games, so hopefully that will counter the skewed offerings.

======================================================================

Disclaimer:

Please remember that all the free games offered during the weekdays are not officially part of the game giveaway project. They are the sole responsibility of me (Whiterabbit) and Wizzard of Oz. The Giveaway team cannot accept any responsibility for any problems arising out of software you have downloaded as a result of posts that are made as part of this project, nor do I or Wizzard of Ozz take responsibility – most of us here are adults after all. - I make certain that all games that I post have been tested on my own computers and have been tested with proprietary Anti Virus programs (PCGuard and F-Secure), though I also try to ensure that the sites you download these games from are awarded green status by the Web of Trust (I no longer use McAfees Site Advisor as I think it’s not as reliable as I once thought)

Anyway, I do hope you find plenty of games that interest you via the free weekday games thread. Happy Gaming

Regards
