No problem. Please do ask if you ever have any concerns again. I will always try to answer to the best of my ability, or at least point you in the right direction.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your reassurances - I was also getting the impression that anti-malware programs tended to flag up the various links and applets running on webpages, rather than the pages themselves being malicious. Makes things rather confusing.

Additionally, I also scan each file after I've downloaded it. However, this occasionally seems to throw up false positives. For instance, ASquared believes that a file called sersetup.exe.old (contained in my "Doom Collection" zip file) is in fact infected with a virus; I'm not sure that this is true. As I mentioned previously, it did not report anything out of the order with Caliber Fifty.

Anyway, I've now downloaded the file using your latest link, so thanks for that.

Regards,

Hi ornithos,
No there shouldn't be any problems. As a matter of course I would always check any downloaded material from the net with your AV program though. I always do. It's probably been given a red due to having links to known malware sites. So long as you don't go clicking on every hyperlink available there's no problem. I didn't get any problems from downloading from this site either.

regards

Hi Stephen,

Unfortunately I had already accessed the

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Games/3D_Action_Games/Caliber_Fifty.html

link yesterday. My A2 Anti-Malware checker did not flag up any issues. However, am I likely to encounter any problems because of this access?

Thank you for explaining the GotD PM-ing process to me, much appreciated.

Regards,

Hi ornithos, thanks for pointing out about the email requirement. I couldn't remember having to provide an email so I followed the link I provided (which was found nearly 2 months ago) and was shocked to find that I’d posted a link to a site marked red by the Web of Trust (WOT).

Please note:

Please ignore the link I've provided in my first post above and use the link to the reference I provided (the first link) as that will take you to a clean page that leads to a download link where you can download it without providing your Email.

i.e.

http://www.gamefabrique.com/links/caliber-fifty.html

To send an Email you have to contact the administrators via the private messaging system. That's accessible by clicking on the link near the top of this page where it says "You have no new messages" You have to ask if it's okay to pass on your Email to the person you want to Email and then they will send a PM to the person in question with your Email.

Regards,

Hi Stephen,

I followed your link to the freedownloadscenter site - thanks.
Do you know why there is such a variety of methods through which you can download software? As you know, this site will only send you a link to the download if you provide your email address.
It seems strange that some sites have everything available for direct downloads, with sites at the other end of the spectrum charging a subscription or requiring you to earn "credits".

Yes I do have the same initials (continued from your other week 8 post).
By the way, is there a way whereby one can send someone in this forum an email directly.

Regards,
SB

This is a great little top down shooter in the vein of Alien Shooter, though being 17 years old the graphics are not as good. Still, the game play is just as good, so if you like such games as Alien Shooter, the RIP series and others like Theseus: Return of the Hero, this is definitely worth a try.

It’s another Sega game, so to play in full screen just press Esc. When you start up the game you will need to go to options and select the second control option (B). There’s no mouse control unfortunately, but that doesn’t spoil the fun for most I hope. The following describes the game well:

The year is 1972. The place is south Vietnam. Captain “Windbreak” Addis' plane has been shot down by the Vietcong. The captain ejected at the last second and is now in the thick of the jungle. Armed with a fifty-caliber machine gun and hand grenades, he must make it to the rendezvous sector.
In Caliber .50, you must guide Captain Addis through five levels of constant gunfire from irate villagers and communist troops (including flame and bazooka squads). Helicopters, tanks and fighter jets will also hunt you down. To defend yourself, you must avoid making contact with enemies and their gunfire while blasting away as many villagers, vehicles and soldiers as you can. End-of-level bosses include giant monkeys, a giant turtle and a rototiller.
Throughout the game you will run across wooden crates filled with power-ups. You can use these items to charge your weapon gauge. If your weapon gauge is high enough, you will automatically trade in your machine gun for a rocket launcher or a flame thrower. Other power-ups can give you invincibility, bullets that go through things, more distance to your weapons, and ultra hand grenades. You can even pick up an item that will instantly destroy every enemy on the screen.
Caliber .50 gives you three difficulty levels from which to choose: easy, normal and difficult. Pick one and begin your mission; Captain “Windbreak” Addis is counting on you.
Caliber Fifty is also known as Caliber 50, Caliber .50, Cal.50.
In Caliber Fifty game, you navigate your character in top-down view and continuously fire at enemies, turning him in different directions, since he doesn't always face the direction he is moving in. You can for example walk backwards, firing at the enemies who pursue you. Enemies include not only various types of gunmen, armed with rifles, flamethrowers, or grenade launchers, but also tanks and helicopters. You can blast open crates to find ammo and supplies. Defeated enemies also leave you items.
Caliber Fifty is a vertically scrolling shooter. Soldiers must destroy a variety of attacking enemies using their guns and hand grenades. This game is also known as Far East.
