An extremely effective and quick way to backup the registry before installing anything is to run ERUNT (download from http://erunt.en.softonic.com/). Minimal action is required to do the backup.

It automatically creates an executable ERDNT.exe which is stored with the backup files so that if restoration of the registry is required you just run ERDNT in order to do it.

Ran this program and it does really well. For gamers like myself, I tend to download a game and not like - uninstall it and download again. All this tends to leave "trails" in the registry. I tend to be very hesitant when it comes to registry cleaning, but I did venture here. My vista system does seem to running more smoothly. When it comes to the registry, I always recommend caution. I like this little gem. I have one from Avanquest, the Fix-It Utilities than I ran and it caused me all sorts of problems and did a system restore. I encountered no problems with this sweet little tool.

I downloaded this as well. It looks interesting and I'm willing to give it a try myself. As with any program the key to it is "understanding", not click and go and keep you fingers crossed. lol. I'm sure it will have some very useful aspects to it.

Hello everybody. I downloaded WinUtilities this morning and have been playing with it a while. I saw the negative postings but I believe its getting a bad wrap. If you need something like this, give it a try. Of course a multipurpose program may not be the best (opposed to a cingular one) but this one is really pretty useful.
