I had almost the same problem with XTweak. It too quickly unregistered itself and refused to take the unlocking code. Even when I tried to apply to the version that we downloaded as well as the newest version.

The only time that the program was updated was after it refused to work with the original version.

E-mails, and I emphasize the plural, that I sent to the company have gone unanswered.

On a much better note, I have had terrific response from the author of the Aplus line of software. After there was a problem with resolution and sizing of the program display I wrote the author, Vincent, and explained the problem. Over a short period time I helped him find the problem. He was most gracious. He sent me the unlocking code to all of his programs - and there are quite a few. We have exchanged a number of e-mails so I have gotten to know him. I have had several other experiences with the authors of programs that contributed to the Giveawayoftheday program that turned out the same way as response I got from Vincent.

The nice responses that I have received from several companies has made it enjoyable for me to participate in the Giveawayoftheday program.

I need to mention one other thing. Drivermagic quit working not because I tried updating at any point in time. I never updated the program or allowed it to update itself.

A program update had nothing to do with the failure of the prior releases of Drivermagic.

This exact same thing happened with the prior release of this program. Almost immediately after downloading the prior release I decided would be good time to cleanup my system drive. This is when I discovered after another problem with the program.

After I reformatted my C drive,(having installed the program on a D drive) I tried to reinstall the drivers using Drivermagic. It did not work! I had a horrible mess it took me several days to straighten out.

I think that there been enough complaints over the months that this program and the company that released it should be banned from this site. All of the bad remarks aimed at this company a few weeks go when Drivermagic was again offered on the giveawayoftheday were deserved.

Immediately after I got my computer back in operation I reviewed the list of programs that I had that claimed that they could backup my system drivers. I found two or three programs that I had downloaded to make backups of my drivers. At that time I did not dare check to see if any of them would actually work. Some time later when I knew that I was going to reformat my drive again, I backed up my drivers using DriverMax. I was not really counting on DriverMax to work any better than the Drivermagic program did. This was just a test.

DriverMax worked for the most part. Several of the individual drivers had to be installed one by one manually. My guess is that DriverMax did not update the registry as it needed to be updated.

I'm on 32 bit Vista Toshiba sp1 and I went to update my drivers last night and found out about this problem. Didn't bother to go back to a previous image, I just downloaded Driver Max and things are fine now. Mine showed the same date as emperor, Oct. 16. Weird.
Thanks to prs for the link for Driver Max.

Only a few companies seem to allow updating (databases) in general. But some do have the politeness to give you a warning that your current version won't allow this.
Btw thumbs up for Violet.

An update on my previous post.

I re-installed version 3.32 and used the licence info from the giveaway. It re-registered and seemed ok. I then updated the database and again it de-registered.
I then re-installed it and have opened and closed it a few times without updating the database. It remains registered each time I open it. So, it looks as if updating the database causes it to de-register.

My version (3.32) is now unregistered, with the trial finish date in the registry set to 16th October 2008. I don't know if this was a preset date or written in when I updated the database. It also cleared out the username and key entries.

So some giveaways do get unregistered on their own! I was here in these forums asking why my wondershare quizcreator got unregistered on its own and i got the answer that it may have been cleaned by a registry cleaner. Lee, may be thats the problem, its activation got cleaned by a "cleaner"!
My copy of driver magician is till registered. WIndows XP, SP3
Meanwhile why not try DriverMax, a freeware that requires registraton with the site. See http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/.

hi, lee...

just checked the program here...and it showed registered...XPSP2, MCE...

HOWEVER...

i enabled "Returnil" & ran the update database (not update program) option...and yep, it now shows unregistered...haven't rebooted yet, but i trust "Returnil" will fix that...

giveaways such as "AnVir Task Manager" & "a2" (for example) allow an update of the database, but not the program (the usual GOTD terms & conditions)...

unregistering after a database update doesn't seem right...

Driver Magician v3.32 that latest gaotd from that author has a registry problem.

It seems to unregister itself and goes to trial.

I have been at it trying to make it register itself, entering the correct username and serial, says now registered, then you close it and re-open it and it says 'unregistered'.

Anyone else found this problem?
