Processors don't hum.

The fan on the processor can especially when it's stuffed up with dust.

If you go into the properties of the screen saver, there is an option to turn off the clock and the sound.

Might be that is causing the problems.

You're hearing a loud hum when the screen saver activates? That noise is not coming from the CPU because the CPU is a solid state device. There's nothing inside of it that could generate a "hum" loud enough to be heard outside your room, and if it was power related, that much voltage going thru it, the thing would be fried. From your description it sounds more like a problem with the cooling fans or the power supply. In any case your problem calls for some serious looking into. If it's still under warranty call the manufacturer, and if it's out of warranty you could be looking at a sizable bill. You might try cleaning the inside of your PC (blow the dust out, look for any loose wires, etc) which is about all you can do without a scope or a meter. Good Luck

(If you have not already done so I would highly recommend making backup copies of all your programs ASAP including the drivers and registry items)

This is the first time I have taken a screensaver from GAOTD. Whenever the screensaver comes on there is a loud hum from my CPU which can be heard from outside the room. This cant be good for my CPU ? By the time I can look into the task manager or process explorer the system Idle is 95% even though the hum is still there for some more time.
Windows XP SP3,Intel Pentium4, 2.8 GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 200

That said, it is a fantastic screensaver!!
