Microsoft blocking GMail accounts from Live ID?

The portion of your e-mail address that follow the @ symbol is part of a "reserved domain" such as live.com, hotmail.com, msn.com or passport.com. Please type a different e-mail address.

UPDATE 1: as noted in the comments below, you can use @googlemail.com instead of @gmail.com and it works.

UPDATE 2: I have contacted Microsoft who confirmed this is not their intention and it was something related to other configurations. Registering with @gmail.com accounts is now possible again. so my be like this not like @ ?

Same thing happened to me last week Nola, finally did get the emails that were sent to me on Friday, I got them on Monday. Good thing we still have the telephone or I never would have known my emails were bouncing back.

Sorry about the delay in replying, had to go and do some farm work!

Thank you Lee for your help. I never received any emails from you at all. All 3 of my email addresses start with 'nola', if you sent it to the one in the error message that you very nicely edited for me (I didn't have a clue how to), that's the ex and he just deletes anything coming from an address he doesn't know. So, I wouldn't know if he received one from you, and he's too many miles away for me to check his laptop myself.

The problem seems to have resolved itself without me having to do anything at all. My friends and I can now email the ex, and test emails I have sent to WR haven't been returned again. Thank goodness for that, and thank you one and all for your assistance. I knew that if I asked you lovely people for help, I would get it, and I did. I really appreciate it. Ta muchly.

Well Nola I sent you two emails, one from the web (hotmail website) and one using my email application (Windows Live Mail) to see what the problem could be.

Might be if you use an email application it's got a fault, or if it's from the web, there is a problem with hotmail or you might be full up with saved messages.

I had problems Windows Live Mail, it was failing to receive messgaes to an account, so I removed the account from the application, re-created it and it works fine.

Thank you all for your replies, even you Lee for your TIC offering, lol !!!! I am obviously blocked from ALL hotmail addresses, even my ex! I sent him an email yesterday and had it returned, and no, he definitely didn't block me, in fact I was answering his email to me from the day before.

And, Stephen told me that when he tried to email me from his hotmail account, my email was 'unrecognised' by his hotmail provider. So, I think this might be a new policy. This is the exact message I'm getting:

Your message has encountered delivery problems
to the following recipient(s):
myname@domain.com
Delivery failed
550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support

So, my emails aren't actually being delivered to the recipient, so they are definitely not being blocked by Stephen or the ex or the other friends I've got with hotmail addys.

Would someone be kind enough to email a hotmail address and let us know what happens? Maybe it is just NZ that is totally blocked from Windows Live, lol, surely not? I have got a couple of friends to email my ex and they were both blocked too. Before you state the obvious, my ex and I are very good friends.....

Hotmail uses antispam software called Brightmail. Brightmail uses a system of "scoring" certain aspects of a message to determine if it is spam. Signatures automatically get 10 points, url's get 20, and so on and so forth. Once the message reaches a set threshold, it is deemed spam.

Microsoft is currently looking for a better antispam solution, as Brightmail was recently acquired by a major competitor.

Just my two cents.

Does anyone know why my emails to hotmail addresses are suddenly being 'failed'. They say this is 'policy' or due to spam content. These are just personal emails about my life, and I haven't even sworn! Is it a new policy by hotmail? Can anyone explain it to me? I have been emailing to the same address for about a year, and fairly frequently too, and now suddenly it has come to an abrupt stop. Hotmail is Microsoft, isn't it?

As an aside, Whiterabbit, do you have a non-hotmail email address that you can send to me. I can't get through with my NZ email addresses although I have now tried with my gmail address which so far hasn't come back to me. I apologise to everyone else reading this, for this personal part, but I have no other way of getting in touch with Whiterabbit.
