Hi guys... I'm a bit new to this forum, been reading for a while, but just joined. I saw that paulvarney.com is now defunct, or at least someone's squatting on his domain. So I have patched the game to remove the automatic linking to his web site and put it into an installer (complete with shortcut and uninstaller) courtesy of "Smart Install Maker". Check it out at:

I cleared a level with just two clicks! I did the same on the next level. Wowie-zowie!
But it was just luck with the colors not really skill on my part, I clicked once and that set the pieces for a match 5, and the match 5 cleared the level because there were only two colors left.:)
Victorianne, this was written in Dark Basic and it seems to work fine on some people's machines and not on others... I really wish I could help you as this is a fun and challenging game. I've tried to find the author, but sadly he has gone to ground and doesn't seem to be available to support his games. You are probably not doing anything wrong, you just probably don't have a file on your computer that those of us that have had no trouble installing the game do. I can't tell you what file it is, so I can't even help you find it. (That is just my best "guess")

jjmcgaffey wait until you start thinking about making matches using can goods...heheh!
Addictive it is for those of us that like these types of games. I've learned how to make more match fives, if you already have enough points it will finish up that level pretty fast most times(but not all). The match five will clear out all of that color, but if you still have to make more points it will still keep you on that level, though at that point it is somewhat easier to make another match five.AlmostAGeek is right, just escape, escape, and you are done with the game and exited, close the window(if you are on the net) and you are done.

AlmostAGeek... that makes me really happy:)

This game is _addictive_. I've been dreaming gems recently! The click-doesn't-register bug is highly annoying (though if you change the angle you can usually get it to work), and I had a hard time figuring out how to move the camera by mouse (got it now, but I was using the arrows on the ball in the top right for the first couple games). I'm not sure whether I've gotten a one-click clear - there have been at least two times when I was still quite a few rows from finishing, did an obscured match and got an empty screen and Well Done. I suspect that may have been a five-match which (on a real level) will kill everything (it says in Help). It doesn't on a bonus level. I also have not been able to figure out how to close it properly - I just use Alt-F4 which kills it (so I haven't gotten the browser thing). Or tab away, which will crash it, but that seems excessively harsh. The crash on any interrupt is a pain, but as you say, LDahl, it's just an added aspect to the challenge...

WR, this is one I found, my oldest son found the one that is a tower of people that you stack up until you finally lose control and they all fall over(I think it is a flash game). I think you and I were discussing both these games in an older thread, which is why there is a bit of confusion. There is also a game called Gem Tower that is entirely different than this one, it is a tower defense game.
This is one of my favorite games; it is easy in concept but it still remains a challenge. It does have an occasional bug. Sometimes it won't let you click on the piece you want, and as you have a time limit, you have to rapidly decide to keep trying or try to find another match.
I have never had one match clear the board, I can't even see how that would be possible. Anyone playing it here ever accomplish a one click clear?
You can't pause or save the game which is perhaps a small flaw, or perhaps part of the challenge. ~LDahl

My memory of it was rather sketchy; so when I re-installed it to test it I was pleasantly surprised at how good the game actually was. Even the graphics are fairly good.

Okay, I've posted Fridays game a lot earlier than I normally do, but only becuse I've decided to take a break from the computer for the rest of the evening. Here's the game that Idahl posted several months ago, that got buried in the forums. I'm sure the old regulars will already have it, so I apologise for keeping you dry today. I'd search for something similar, but really need a break from the monitor tonight. :) It's a really cool 3D match three puzzle. It's much harder than your usual 2D version. Unfortunately there's no installer included, so you'll need to create a folder and name it gem towers. Then unzip the contents of the zip file to the folder. Once you've done that, place the folder where you want it, then create a shortcut to the desk top. You can also create a shortcut for the start menu if you wish. Create a shortcut by right clicking on the executable file, then copy this to a folder named Gem Tower. Move this folder to the following patch for it to show in the start menu. (you will have to create a folder and shortcut for each account on your computer):

C:\documents and Settings\Administrator (or whatever account you want the shortcut to show in)\Start Menu\Programs\

That's it.

The guy who created the game has a link that opens up to his home page when you close the game down, only it's no longer his site. It's innocuous, and can just be closed with no damage to your computer. (much like the browser opening when you close down a gametop game)

Gem Tower: (3.74Mb)

So what is Gem Towers all about? It's a 3D puzzle game. You must remove the required number of gems in order to progress to the next level. You do this by swapping gems so that they create a line of 3 (or more) of the same color. You can only move the gems if they are going to create a set.

You can spin the whole gem grid in full 3D, and gems have 26 possible neighbours, so you need to look carefully at the grid from each angle, to see if there is anything you've missed. As with most games of this nature, if you stack them correctly you can set off entire chain reactions. It's not impossible to finish a whole level with just one swap. If you get totally stuck you can sacrifice one of your lives in order to skip the level. The further you play, the more colours enter the grid (and therefore, the harder it gets).

Everything looks lovely - the gems glisten and reflect the light, the controls are smooth and the whole game very responsive. It isn't perfect however - the random nature of the gem placement means that you can often start on a really difficult level, only to have to skip it in order to stand a chance on the next. And sometimes the new gems drop onto the grid too fast for you to be able to see clearly what is underneath them. But having said that, this is a fine release and for a free game - a great time killer.

If perchance the game giveaway project doesn't run again this weekend, I've got a great set of three really good quality space shooters/space management games to post download links to. If we do get a game on Saturday and Sunday, then I'll save them till Monday. I almost posted them today that was the original plan, but I promised I'd post this puzzle game.
