NoName posted the following additional information about frets on fire, though it probably only pertains to non windows versions:

additional info on the frets on fire download. If people want to make use of this game they should be aware of the following, you might ad it to the post on the forums

First, the following supporting Python libraries should be installed.

	- Python 2.4 or later
- PyGame
- PyOpenGL and a video card with recent OpenGL drivers
- Python Imaging Library
- numpy
- Optional: psyco specializing compiler

After this, the game can be started by running the src/FretsOnFire.py file. For
following commands:

	$ cd src
for pygame go to http://pygame.org/download.shtml
for pyopengl go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/pyopengl/
for Python Imaging Library go to http://www.pythonware.com/products/pil/

One of the drugs I have to take is notorious for making people overly sensitive. I reckon the lack of much response and the negative votes over in the comments section last week upset me a little at first.

Now I know that my efforts are not in vain, no amount of negativity from the comments section will bother me. (At one point I had over minus 20 , lol)

I've got some great freeware and abandonware titles coming up over the next few months. I'm tempted to post the whole lot in one massive post, but then it would get buried, lol. (unless Bubby made it a sticky).

Yeah, the no fail aspect is a blessing in disguise really, as having to start from the beginning every time you make a mistake would suck (though I can see why it's done that way. I don't actually own a copy of guitar hero, so don't know whether that facility is available on that game.

regards

This is a pretty good game Rabbit. I've had it for a year or so. Not as flashy or refined as Guitar Hero, but fun just the same. I added all songs from GH I,II,III & Aerosmith. One nice thing about it is that you can't "fail" a song. You still get to play it all the way through even if you "suck".

P.S. - I'm glad you've decided to keep posting on the software comments page. ;)

Here's another game similar to Guitar Hero, though the graphics are a lot more basic. Thank you to delenn for Emailing me a link:

Heroes in Guitarland:

The following is inportant if you want the game to run better:

I included a font with the download. The game looks absolutely dreadful without it, so please install it first. It's a pretty ok font actually!

Features:

* NES palette, NES sound and NES resolution (and no consideration of any other silly hardware restrictions)
* One song, two difficulties
* Sexy scanlines
* A wild crowd
* Confusion as to the nature of your instrument. Are you playing guitar, synth or strumming vocal cords?

And probably a couple of more features which I don't even know about. Please mail me if you come across one of them and I'll have it removed if I can Address is in the readme.

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2821.msg72393#msg72393

More from this site soon :) so if you want to be surprised avoid backtracking. :)

I thought a nice chance of pace would be in order after yesterdays epic role playing game, Realms of Arkania. Today you get to be involved in the music business, either by being a whiz guitarist or a cool disco DJ.……..

The second game is still a work in progress and the download is really just to showcase the game. If you think you’ll like it, it will be worthwhile book marking the site so that you can check back to see if and when it’s completed.

I thought it would be nice to post these two together as they seem complementary. They are ‘Frets on Fire’ and ‘That Disco Thing’. The former downloads as an installable executable, whereas That Disco Thing has no installer yet, so you will have to unzip the file to a new folder then place that were you want it to go (don’t forget to name the folder), then create a short cut from the unpacked game exe (which is an orange and blue icon):

=======================================================================

Frets on Fire:

Ready to make your rock star dreams come true?
But you say you don't even have a band or even any musical talent? On top of that, all you have is a computer and a keyboard? Well then, fret not! Because Frets on Fire just might be the perfect freeware game for you.
In the vein of Guitar Hero, Frets on Fire will challenge your musical skill and help you develop some fast fingers as you rock along to some kickin' tunes. Played entirely with a keyboard, you'll be on fire in no time, with the ability to add more songs down the road from the entire Guitar Hero catalog, or from the growing list of songs (hundreds) made especially for Frets on Fire.
Download this cool freeware game today and unleash the fret master in you!

Official Features:

•	Unique inverted keyboard game play style
•	Support for guitar controllers and generic joysticks
•	Includes a song editor for making your own tunes
•	Compete with others on the World Charts
•	Hundreds of songs composed by the community
•	Supports importing Guitar Hero I and Guitar Hero II songs
•	Multiplatform; runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and FreeBSD
•	Open source, full Python source code available

That Disco Thing (4.02MB)

There are no reviews, screen captures, or videos, nor any information about this game as yet. Though I think it’s actually a tester for a 3D engine called Blender rather than a game. It’s really just a showcase for a future release, but, as I said in the introduction, I thought it would complement today’s main game. The graphics are pretty good so I’ll be keeping my eye open for future developments.

http://worldmedia.free.fr/

If you’re not interested in it, do check out the page though because there’s another game (plus some other stuff to mess around with) that looks interesting called FrontierCity which is just over 4Mb in size. You’ll also find that space invaders game I posted details of during the first week of this project.

I’ll have a great 3D puzzle game tomorrow that Idahl originally posted in these forums 8 months ago, which has got buried amongst the hundreds of other posts in the games discussion forums. It’s actually hidden within an unrelated post, so I thought it worth adding to the weekday games project.
