I used to be in an America's Army clan till about two years ago. It's a fantastic online first person shooter, with up to date graphics, and superb game play. You have to go through a boot camp training program, which is based offline, though the results of each test is sent online and stored. You earn points by killing enemies, but beware if you accidentally kill your own side you lose points and may even go to Fort Levensworth. There's even cooperative play now, which there didn't used to be.

Definitely worth downloding if you have broadband. Not very good if you're on a dial up though firstly because ut's at least 2Gb in size and you're likely to lag a lot on the servers.

Hmmm.......nashcat, your right of course. Maybe I'll announce a list of all the games I've posted at the end of each week; once every seven days is hardly spamming the comments section..

Before I forget. I meant to mention that when you install games from the games4win.com (Tetris, Color Tetris and Firestones)you get a link to their website installed onto your desktop. I couldn't see anyway to prevent this during installation of the game. It is only a link though, so can easily be deleted.

I'm going back into the land of Cyrodiil now (Oblivion) to seek out some mythical shield; wish me luck ... I've been stuck in the crypts of a particular abbey, fighting off bandits for the last few hours. A female bandit keeps getting the better of me:) As I've no healing potions left, I've been trying to think up some strategies to beat her, but so far I must have died about 10 times. Looks like I'm going to have to back track a few saves to a more healthier time; lol.

So how will your fans be able to follow you? You offer so much to the gamers. It's a shame to allow the nay sayers this satisfaction. Will you still post in forums or how Whiterabbit?

That's a nice idea. I'm sure there are community members that will miss these games simply becaue they don't bother to visit the forums. I regret saying that I was going to stop posting n the giveaway comments page. I really shouldn't have given the nay sayers the satisfaction; but I've said I'll stop, so I must.

In case the post doesn't appear in the Giveaway for the day comments area, I will repost it here. Whiterabbit, I thought you should see my idea since you're mentioned in it.
Perhaps the lack of Game Giveaways will make people appreciate Whiterabbit’s efforts a bit more. I was thinking earlier today that maybe GAOTD should make some kind of “Members Freeware Games Features” where the efforts of Whiterabbit and anybody else who decides to try to make up for the lack of games, can be showcased and brought to the attention of more people. A members freeware games feature page with a link to it from the page for the daily giveaway, would also make it unnecessary to use comments section to announce games, thus solving the problem some people have voiced about game postings here, while also making people who come here aware of Whiterabbits efforts via a “Members Featured Freeware Games” or similarly titled link from this page.

Here are a couple more Tetris clones to add to the pot. Both are easier on the eyes and look better (IMO). There are actually loads of free Tetris clones around on the www. I thought the three I've posted links to give a broad enough coverage of the different styles to stop searching for more. I was willing, but the draw of Oblivion, which is paused on another computer beckons, as does bed, so you'll have to make do with 3, plus the main game. :) It should be worth downloading all three and seeing which suits you best. The first one (which I posted in the first post of this thread caused my eyes to go a little funny after a short spell, and reminded me of the feeling I got when plying it on the original game boy (a sort of ache above the eye brows through concentrating for too long on those shapes).

There will be a game posted next month that you could say is Tetris related, but it's different enough to consider posting it as a seperate weekday giveaway; besides, it's got some great power ups and an unusual playing style. I'm not giving the name away though. When I used to play it frequently, I though it was the best puzzle game I'd ever played; It took me ages to find the game on the net because I'd forgotten the name of it for some time. It’s far better than your bog standard Tetris. I hope I've got your curiosity up, lol:

Firestones:

FireStones is like color Tetris: there are incoming blocks of 3 colored stones, you can rotate them. The lines of 3 or more stones having common color are destroying and stones are dropping down if possible.

FireStones is a Tetris game clone where you must maneuver varied color blocks to make groups of 3. Once a group is made, the blocks disappear and the above blocks move down. Simple and very similar to color Tetris

Two of this weeks games were filched from the stockpile of weekday freeware games, so that I could post games over the weekend, due to the lack of a game giveaway. I’ve planned out all the games I’ve tested so far, and didn’t want to start messing my system up (a bit geekish I know, but it serves to keep me organized); so today’s games have been drawn out of the games that I’d not tested thoroughly. I’ve checked for viri and other malware and also checked to see if the games work, which both do. Worms reminds me vaguely of that brilliant game called Lemmings, which was the first ever game I saw played on a computer, though it’s not really anything like it. It’s got me re-installing my worms games after quite a few years. When I got hold of a copy of Lemmings. I didn’t stop playing it for months. (I've still got a working copy as well as the later Lemmings Revolution, which I'm going to reinstall as well. That was on a 386 25MHz system with Win 3.1 installed and only 4Mb of memory (at the time the standard was 1Mb); such a long time ago now. Anyway, I hope you like today’s selection; both are only small downloads, so everyone should be happy. I’ve included links to some images and videos of the first game, but haven’t for the second. However, as it was probably one of the first of the classic games available for hand held’s, I’m sure you’ll all know what to expect. It’s a Sega emulated one, so to get it to full screen press the Esc key. The arrow keys are used to move the blocks , rotate and drop. Feedback would be appreciated, but not necessary. :)

The end product is a perfect example of how much programmers can achieve with a small budget. This unselfish game will even run on a 386 with 4 megs of RAM.

Worms does have its drawbacks. Since the game is turn-based, a large multi-player game can take what seems like ages to play, and the game's keyboard interface often makes it hard to achieve subtle changes in weapon angle and shot velocity. All in all, though, Worms is an inexpensive game that offers an exciting strategy competition, a lot of laughs, and fantastic replay value.
