curiouser and curiouser axecut. I had a similar experience chasing after the elusive CTP.
at the deep red Freedownloadscenter they're offering ver.6.6! but of course after carefully accessing this site I found it was the same version as the GOTD.
All this explains why the old regkey worked whatever version it claims to be.
best left alone I think
Oh by the way, it worked ok in vista after getting it registered

I got curious about version numbers for Captain Tray Pro (CTP) because there appear to be contradicting statement about them. I also wanted to see which versions we got on Sept 17, on May 11 and the one currently being sold.

1) The version number found on the properties of the Captain Pro executable is 6.3, but on the About window of the Help menu the version is 6.4.

I have both the Sept 17 and the May 11 GAOTDs installed on different computers so I tested both and got identical results.

2) I wasted 30 mins searching CTP's web page for the version number of the CTP that is currently being sold. Wasted time. I started the process of buying the current version.
During all the steps to buy it no information about version number in the name or the description of the software I was buying. I emptied my shopping cart none the wiser.

3) While I was on CTP's site I found a link to the development History page which I guess is the name they give to the Release Notes (RNs) of CTP.

The highest version in the RNs is 6.2 and it is dated Feb 06. It makes me wonder Why versions 6.3 and 6.4 are not in the RN with descriptions of what was fixed, added, corrected, improved,....

Did development of CTP ended in Feb 2006? The copyright on CTP (both Sept and May) CTP reads Copyright(C) 2005-2006 Almeza Rezearch, LLC. All rights reserved (yes, it reads Rezearch).

There is a small on the RNs page phrase that reads "System tray and taskbar management | Thursday, 18 September 2008" which can be found on the same History page.

Unfortunately, the 2008 phrase had no version information.

I don't think there is a 6.5 version of CTP.

Just as I thought, the two versions are identical. Even the copyright years have not been changed. If you had this already, no need to bother installing it again.

The version offered in May was 4.6. Today's version is 4.6 as well. The key for the version offered in May works with today's version.

Does anybody know if today's version of Captain Tray is different in any way from the one offered back in May?
I ask because I have the version given in May and if there are no improvements I would prefer not messing with it.

TIA,

AxCut

PS: After the post above I realized that I still had the GAOTD from May, so I downloaded today's version extracted and compare the files. The sizes of both May's and today's setup.exe are exactly the same, but a binary comparison shows differences. I am going to install today's CT in the laptop and compare it to the one offered in May that is installed in my desktop. I'll post what I find, but nobody seems interested.

On Vista I have the same problem it won't register and though I have been waiting for over 10 hours nobody at GOTD has apparently bothered to even take a look at this problem let alone try to fix it.

Here is what I believe. The supplied code is defective. If so nobody none would have registered this giveaway.
In the user comments,
Comment 32 from kelly, "It is easy to regester if you just read properly."
Comment 46 from KAS, "Those of you who have the previous version of this giveaway, can install this new version to a different directory, and copy the file ctp.key from the old version directory to the new version directory. That will cause the new version to become registered correctly"

I have failed to get today's giveaway registered(Captain tray Pro) After installing and entering the Registration name & code I get the message "thank you. Please restart captain tray pro to activate registration". When I restart it still opens as unregistered version.
