Two other things that make a difference to me...so I won't get Iron.
-No auto-updating with Iron.
-Chrome won't learn what I like as well (even if it does require key-logging...its only logging the omnibar, not my CC info and such)

I will say, on browsing speed, it is generally the same (I only notice on my slowest computer.) However, on startup time, Chrome has always won. (Whenever I click on both of the icons at the same time). And on the spyware such and such....what are the planning on doing with my keylogs? All I see them doing is improving their searches, which I am all up for.

Hi thenameipicke Chrome is the fast so far? as for spyware you right but a new one comes,
http://blogs.computerworld.com/chrome_googles_biggest_threat_to_your_privacy

Lost in all the hooplah about Chrome's release is a very disturbing fact: The new browser could be Google's greatest privacy invader yet. In fact, Chrome can send back the keystrokes you type into its Address Bar, even if you don't
bother to hit Enter. I've got details, along with a fix.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=4603 Safari 4 - "The world's fastest browser" ... NOT!

http://etech.eweek.com/content/web_technology/fastest_browser_fight_is_pointless.html
http://www.pcworld.com/article/162252/google_chrome_is_fastest_browser_in_siteloading_tests.html
Faster, But Should You Care?
The ironic thing about browser makers’ speed claims is that many users probably won’t notice the difference between the fastest and slowest browsers in our tests.
If that browser happens to be IE, however, be aware that you're surfing 42 times slower than you could be with one of the other alternatives.

As I said in your other post....this is missing 1 key element of spyware. It lets you choose whether you want it to or not...and I seriously doubt that Firefox could ever be as fast as chrome.

Solution

During install, simply don't click the checkmark under the TOS that states "Optional: Help make Chrome better by automatically sending usage statistics and crash reports to Google."
I did not click sending usage statistics a-squared take out the updater don't need.

I have an old Compaq Deskpro which used to have Windows ME but has been upgraded to XP. I have the following internet browsers installed on my system and I have listed them in the order of most favorite to least.

1. Internet Explorer
2. Firefox
3. Safari
4. Opera
5. Chrome

Internet Explorer used to be one of my most hated. It used to freeze all the time and I would ALWAYS get a Error say, "IE has encountered a problem with Flash 9E.ocx". But ever since I've upgraded my flashplayer to version 10, Internet Explorer has been running very smoothly for me. To the date I've upgraded my flash player it has NEVER crashed at all. It also seems to be faster for some reason.

Firefox is my second favorite because of all it's features you can customize. I enjoy all the add-ons and it's speed is right up there with Internet Explorer. The only problem is that the more add-ons you have, the more it slows down the browser.

Safari takes forever to start up for me but it runs and loads every page pretty fast. I rarely use it but it's good to have I guess. It's basically an average browser with few features to me.

Opera is not my friend. It doesn't really run all that fast for me and it doesn't read pages the way it should. I have it for testing purposes but I never use it.

Chrome is my most hated. I haven't tried the new "Official 1.0 Version" yet but I tried it back in beta. It was VERY fast for me which I liked but it was horrible at reading pages. Every page I looked at using it seemed "Messed Up". Even on Google itself, the navbar was messed up and completely vertical. But like I said they could have changed this since then but I have enough browsers and don't need another one on my system. I only have about 800 MB left on my system, lol.

So anyway, these are just my opinions and experiences. Don't take what I say as the standard here. I know many people hate Internet Explorer but it has run great for me. At the same time, I still agree that Firefox is a great browser as well. As for the rest, I didn't like them. Safari was just average and it got worst with Opera and Chrome. But maybe this has helped someone get a better understanding of the browser market.

Regards, Chip

Google chrome now out of Beta...this is remarkable quick (100 days) for them considering GMail is still in Beta (4 years after launch)and Picassa (aquired by Google July 2004)only recently dropping its Beta status

So far, the only gripe I've had with Chrome is the fact that hotmail didn't quite work the same. Microsoft has fixed this, and now I have no complaints. Chrome is now my browser of choice. It works twice as fast as firefox, and 10x's as fast as IE. The thing to remember about Chrome is that it is still in first beta. All browsers are minimalistic in first beta, even in second. Also, it is a brand new browser straight out of the gate. It's not going to have all of the options available like the ones who have been around for years. I remember Firefox not having all of the options that it now has either. Besides, the thing that makes Firefox so appealing (other than speed) is how easily it is to configure and add onto it. Google has already announced that there will be add-on support. Chrome also has some features that Firefox doesn't have. Overall, as far as beta's go, I'm overly impressed with Chrome. I can't wait until the final build.

Regards,
AH

chrome was built using Safari WebKit & Firefox...but their options menu seems to be missing alot of things firefox has...

anyway, should you have multiple displays or extend your desktop screen, chrome allows you to drag a tab out and place it onto another window. firefox & IE7 still lacks this feature.

consider this though. Google provides a large portion of firefox funding. Google also employs several former and current members of the firefox team. Now the contract that Google had with Mozilla is up in 2011, so maybe there is more to this than one would think.

Will Google continue contracts with Mozilla, or will they move the development team of FF to work on Chrome considering several are already Google Employees (including the former lead engineer)?

Just some food for thought.

PS, and yes Chrome is featureless, but it works superbly well as a mail client, or as a client for using any of google's services (calendar, docs, notebook, etc). The spartan nature is kind of the point in an open source release. Give people a blank canvas, and they can paint anything.

Featureless minimally configurable piece of junk. I've tried 'em all, and this one is the first one that was almost as bad as Safari. But then, I'm an ole fogey. Hate tabbed browsing, and hate even more browsers that invade my screenspace with lines of non-removeable junk I won't ever use. (That killed IE7 for me). Would consider FF if there was a way to get my 5-button mouse to fully work in it. Otherwise, guess I"m stuck with the IE6 and enough bolt-on security programs to keep it running. Sigh..

One good thing about Chrome is the way it handles JS (JavaScript). I am told that because it handles JS differently then most browsers sites or pages that use a lot of JS work much faster in Chrome. I have not tried it yet but Chrome is supposed to make Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets work much much faster. This would be nice since they are pretty poky even is FireFox.
