Hi, Maizey!

I sure didn't mean to imply that this wasn't the best deal going. Only to inform students and university staff that they qualify for other software discounts as well. I find many of my students (usually university staff) are unaware of the huge savings available to them.

Many universities DO hunt down the best deals for their students. I am surprised at your school for not offering all the latest and greatest software at the best prices. If there are softwares that you want, but are unable to order through your bookstore, check the developer sites for their academic prices. Also, online auction sites (such as ebay) often offer academic packages. For places other than your bookstore, your enrollment verification will be required.

Happy hunting!

delenn13, Thanks! That's screaming deal! It costs just under $240 at my campus bookstore for the exact same suite. And that's with the student discount. Our bookstore is owned by one of the biggest book retailers around. I wonder why they are not making that deal available though their store? BTW, this offer is good until December 31, 2010! I don't think that any campus bookstore can beat $60!

BZ, My university does offer free downloads and iso copies of some components of the 2007 Office suite but not Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook and Groove.

I have worked in an academic environment for more years than I care to mention. Let me add a little more information about academnic software.

Most Universities/Colleges have a book store or a technology store where students can purchase software (and often hardware) at an academic price. It is easy for students to purchase there, since they are set up to verify your enrollment with your student ID in real-time. Employees of the college also qualify for academic pricing. The academic restriction is "not for commercial" use. Otherwise, fully licensed software with technical support available and will qualify for upgrade pricing (also at the academic rate--if you're still a student or employee) when the time arrives.

Adobe and Microsoft are particularly generous to the academic community, although many software developers participate in academic discounting.

"Microsoft has a special deal for college students. It is selling College Student Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for $60. That will save you hundreds of dollars!

This edition contains important Office programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. But it doesn't end there. You'll also find lesser-known programs like OneNote.

You must meet certain requirements to qualify for the deal. For example, you must provide proof of enrollment. But make no mistake—this is a good deal."

Got this info from Kim Komando. I know it isn't free but it's a GREAT deal. I know we got certain people going to college now..like Maizey and Funky. Some of you may have grandkids etc..going to college..let them know about this. Hope you get approved.

From what I read it is just limited to the the US..like usual. :(
