I think I'm confused. The mini games are for Hyperballoid 2 NOT Ozzybubbles ... correct?

Actually I'm not sure Nola, I play so may games that I find it hard to remember where I am. I'll have to replay the game and see if I find the mini games. There is the possibility that we were given a 'special' version, but I very much doubt that. They could also be randomly generated, with the one ou got having the highest incidence, so you may have been unlucky?

I've had so much fun with this I actually did a walkthru for it. It's not so much instructions on how to get thru each level as it is a map of one way to get thru all the screens/boxes on the game's map; little hints like when you have to use a super jump power up in order to reach another box on the map. Haven't got it all typed up yet, but I'm working on it.

Thank you for answering Stephen. I too, looked at the images of the game and also saw different mini-games, so I am really at a loss to understand why I'm not seeing them in my game. I take it that you didn't actually experience these levels in as much as you played of your game either? Wonder where the heck they are then!!!!

Don't apologise for misleading me, you haven't, I saw the images for myself on the net. You do a wonderful job in the little time you have and I appreciate EVERY review.

(Will answer your email soon, am blown away at the moment, need time to assimilate, lol)

Hi Nola, regarding the bonus levels. The information was gleaned from checking out all the images o the game on the internet. Thee were three distinctly different game types that I saw, but then again I may have made a mistake. Has anyone else seen these mini games???

I apologise if I've mislead you. It was not intentional. I try to play as much of a game as i can before I review it, but sometimes I'm only informed of the next game hours before the actual giveaway, so I have little time to play it throughly.

Would someone PLe-e-E-E-ase tell me how in heck you beat that big chomping clam? I huff and puff and leap around like crazy, until my fingers are worn out, while it methodically eats away the 9-10 lives I have hoarded up. WHAT kills the darn thing? It is now to the point that I am not playing anymore iffen I can't get past that CLAM. TIA, V.

Thanks for the welcome, funkymom. I've spent so much time reading the messages about software and games I might want to D/L that I haven't read any messages in the forums until recently. Wading through all the info about the freebies sure takes a long time.

Back to Ozzy Bubbles, my grandkids will probably rip through it pretty fast. They play games on their gameboy and playstation (I think that's the one they have) that go so fast I can hardly figure out what they're doing while they're playing.

Thanks for the tip, Buckleysmom. I finally made it through that level (10) and I'm now up to level 17. But I'm not going to tell you how many hours it took me to get that far. (I'm not sure if I know myself; sometimes I zone out when I'm playing a computer game.) I was having such a hard time getting through level 11 that I thought I was going to have to have my 8 and 11yo grandchildren over to play the game and show me what to do. Then I realized that there was a ladder that the arrow was pointing at that I couldn't see because all the graphics is so dark. I had to take my glasses off to make it out. LOL

Okay, I have now gone through all 40 levels - even beaten the fish that 'spews' little fish onto the screen (40th level) - and as I said above, I have not come across one bonus level that is any different to the usual "catch the falling treasure". I never saw any Luxor or Bejewelled bonus level. Has anyone else had this? What have I done wrong? I had heaps of bonus levels but not one like White Rabbit mentioned. Am I the only lucky one?

I LOVE this game. My grandchildren will probably love it, too. White Rabbit, I probably wouldn't have D/Led it if I hadn't read your review. Thanks for all the reviews you write.

However, I haven't played games similar to this before (or maybe it doesn't matter if I have), and I can't get past level 10. How is Ozzy supposed to kill or evade the monster fish? Can anyone please explain? I've played that level at least a dozen times in the last 2-3 days and am totally stuck.

Hi Stephen, or anyone else, Can you tell me where you first saw the bonus levels that were like Luxor, Bejewelled, etc? I am up to Level 9 and have had several bonus levels but they were the same as usual, i.e. you have to get as many as possible of the falling treasure chests, coins, etc before they disappear. I have had nothing resembling Luxor etc, nor have I had any of the themed backgrounds. My version is exactly the same as the last one we got. I was really excited about the new bonus levels but they haven't appeared on my version, lol !!

Hi Siki, Yes I've got the Beta. I installed it yesterday and am gooing to spend some time tomorrow playing it. I did do the first level and found it okay with an interesting twist re the puzzles.

Sorry about the comment regarding the installation issues. I meant to check that before I posted the review this morning, but didn't until later in the day. There is NO problems with this installation. I remember there was a problem with shortcuts whhen it was given away last November so I created a pictorial turorial. The alarm didn't wake me up this morning (I accidentally turned it off instead of to auto last night, lol) and when I did wake up just after the giveaway had been started I just posted the review without checking it again.
regards

Stephen

Suki, did you check my Thread about Hyperballoid 2???

There's a fan site where you can download custom made level sets and post details of where you upload your own (that's if you create any levels) I'm hoping it will get popular like te reflexive fan site did. Just imagine being able to download thousands of custom made levels. Unfortunately there's only two level sets posted so far. I hope it doesn't go the way that other games with levels editors goes as I think the game has potetial. It's definitely much better than the original hyperballoid (IMO)

Hi Whabbit and Pretzel

Looks like an ok one. Thanks for the additional info!

Whabbit have you got the Beta from Oleg? I ran it through once on my Laptop, just to check the dialog. Going to run it on the Desktop so I can skip the dialog(to many mistakes)! The opening graphics were great, the in-game ones not to good. There is also an annoying problem with the hint pop up, it's popping up all the time. I like the game, but wish I could have more time to help with the grammar and script! When I opened it, at the top it was called Ghost Castle, so oleg must have changed the name.

Looking for another good game tomorrow, but I'm not going to hold my breath, lol!

Have a good weekend guys!!!

Suki

P.S. I did not have to create a short-cut, I just installed it, and it had the option to create them. Of course I always delete the Realore one!

Thanks for adding that Creamy (my daughter has a teddy bear called Creamy, lol) also:

Addendum to my review posted earlier today:

Someone mentioned in the prevous giveaway that you could play this game from a pen drive; so I tested this by transferring the installed games files to another computer and found tat the game was indeed self contained. So you can if you wish carry this around and play it on any computers you wish. That’s a great plus for this game and adds to the already decent points I gave it earlier.

The mini games are a shadow of their big brothers (luxor, Bejewelled etc), but they are still a great idea, which breaks up the platform levels really well and adds to the overall games playability.

I'm not sure whether this would be an allowed post, so I apologize to the admins and moderators in advance if you deem the above information not acceptable. I just thought it was an interesting fact, which some community members may appreciate. :)

Introduction:

Ozzy Bubbles, a 6.8Mb download, was originally given away by Realore early in November last year and received a positive 88% out of 229 votes. There were also 66 comments which you can read by following the link below. I’ve copied and updated my original review that was posted back then; though only to add some links to reviews I’ve found on the net and to correct some errors:

http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/ozzy-bubbles/

Quote from Realore:

Ozzy Bubbles is a fantasy adventure in the underwater kingdom where your objective is to save the inhabitants from the danger of monsters. 12 types of monsters, 4 bosses, and 40 game levels, 17 various bonuses and a classic arcade game play make your adventures thrilling and unforgettable. The superb graphics, fantastic visual effects, soundtrack and music complete the story line perfectly. The game is challenging, fun and suitable for all ages.

The Game:

What a gorgeous looking game Ozzy Bubbles is. I agree with the comment Geek Girl made previously when this was first given away; that is, “if you liked Turtix, you’ll enjoy this one as well”.

As for the installation issue (well it’ not really an issue, just not your normal install method) I’ve created a pictorial tutorial for those who aren’t computer savvy, to illustrate the steps you should take to install this game and then create a desk top icon. I’ve used the usual default position that most games are installed to, although I usually install my games to a specific folder elsewhere. You can download the file from the following address. It’s less than 1Mb in size. Read the details as I can easily create a better ‘integrated’ tutorial on request for you if you wish; (maybe I should use that giveaway from the other day called demo creator) Also I’ve posted a tutorial in the games discussion thread that details how to create a desktop shortcut.

I’ve taken my usual medley of images following through the various menus and some in game screen captures. You can see these by following the link below.

The options menu is uncluttered, with the usual music and sound sliders. The intro music is very relaxing and worth having on if you do play this game. If you want to replace it, or even add this to your MP3 collection, you can find the intro music within the data folder. Just look for the snd folder and search through for the intro file, there’s loads of sound files to search through if any of the other music interests you. You will need an audio converter that can convert mp3 to ogg (for you to replace the music in the game) or ogg to mp3 (for you to get a copy of the music for your collection). There is also a full screen/windowed toggle for those who like to play in both modes. You can get a free audio converter from the freeware library that will enable you to do this.

The menu screens are well laid out and easy to follow. The help section comprises of 11 excellent pages of information about the various power ups and collectibles, illustrated in a cartoon style that kids will love. As pointed out above by others who previously commented when this game was first given away, this game looks like it’s been developed with the child in mind; but I’ve actually been enjoying playing it myself. So this game gets big thumbs up from me.

While in game you have to jump from platform to platform collecting coins, objects and power ups and either avoiding the baddies, or seeing them off by shooting bubbles at them, or jumping on them either using the up arrow key or jumping from a higher platform. If you’ve caught them in a bubble they will float around aimlessly for a while before escaping and becoming a threat again. If you jump on the monsters or bubbles with monsters in them to destroy them you may earn coins, power ups or letters; although not every time. There is an indicator at the bottom of the playing area that tells you how much air you have left to make bubbles. If this empties, which on later levels it most certainly will, you have to stand still to get your breath back. This will replenish the air you can use to make bubbles. There is a bonus in game that will top it up if required.

To move Ozzy you use your mouse. The left mouse button is used to make Ozzy jump; but you do have to use the keyboard for climbing ladders and exiting to a new level (by clicking on the up arrow.) when a new command is required a small tutorial window will pop up with instructions. This is unobtrusive and hardly spoils the lovely graphic this game has been rendered in. You can shoot bubbles by using the left mouse button or by using the space bar.

There are at least 13 power ups (it mentions 17 in the intro to this game above the comments section) including invulnerability shields, extra lives, bubble bombs and lots more that I’ll let you discover for yourself. Sometimes when you kill one of the monsters, of which there are several (detailed in the help menu), a letter will fall from it. Collect these to spell Ozzy and you will earn bonus levels.

When a level completes you will see an information panel which will give you the usual level statistics such as time taken, score etc, as well as what new elements you can expect to see in the next level. There are 40 in total, which is ample for this most excellent of adventures and it’s also an ideal game to play as a family on a wet Sunday afternoon.

There are several themed backgrounds that keep the graphics fresh and the bonus levels are different from the normal game play, for example you’ll see match three, battleships and Luxor clones amongst others. If you follow the link to the Googled images and check out several pages you should see the different mini games that are available within the main platform game. I love games that have games within games as they make it much more enjoyable to play.

Requirements:

o	Processor: P II 450 MHz
o	Windows 98/2000/Me/XP/Vista
o	DirectX 3.0

Conclusion:

I wasn’t a great lover of platform games of this type; though I do love platform games such as Gish, Wik and the Fable of Souls, Gumboys Crazy Adventures and Barrel Mania, all of which are unusual platform games that I would recommend anyone trying – they are all available from reflexive arcade:

http://www.reflexive.com

What makes this great family game worth downloading apart from gorgeous graphics and the game play is the addition of several mini games that break up the 40 levels you get, as well as the introduction of new power ups and enemies as you progress thought the levels. The game play is smooth and the combined use of the mouse and keyboard controls are easy to use; all of which definitely make this game worth 8 out of 10 in my opinion.

Thank you Realore and the game giveaway team for a great repeat.
