I've been trying to figure out where I'd seen today's giveaway before. I recognised it when I saw the stationary objucts such as packing cases and small buildings being moved around by the bots in game. Well, I just remembered. It's actually a very recent addition to the Gametop site. So if you miss today's game you can always download it any time from the following address:

http://www.gametop.com/download-free-games/crimson-road/

A lot of people seem to be having problems with the controls, which I cannot explain 'cos I'm not having the same problems. I do keep pressing the backwards button by mistake when I'm turning which makes it seem like the steering isn't very good. You could try re mapping the keys.

Also the game above may be the answer.

p.s.
PapaSmurf, there's no need to apologise. If the game isn't up to scratch in your pinion then it's rubbish, lol.

From my post on the game site:

Ok, in a nutshell:

Downloaded fine.
Installed fine.
Keys are definable, and mouse works for shooting.
Problem:

Steering does NOT work. No matter what you do, the vehicle will not drive in the direction you wish to go. With every movement, the steering direction seems to change. Even trying to pay attention to the relative position of the vehicle does not help. This would be a nice, mindless shoot-em-up otherwise.

Conclusion:
I will have to give this a thumbs down for now due to the lack of control. I found it to be very annoying.

My sys:
WinXP Pro SP2

I am sorry to disagree with you Whiterabbit-uk about the controls. I was unable to find any common ground as to their operation. It did not seem to matter what direction the vehicle was facing, nor what button you were pushing. I did like the mindless shooting, but due to lack of control I gave this one a Thumbs Down.

Boo Hisss .... Wait all week for a nice weekend of games & this is what I waited for ??? I don't think so ! I haven't abandoned GGOTD during these trying times. I have, however, stopped reccomending it to others. Please don't misunderstand me to be ungrateful. I've enjoyed more games over the past year not to be. I suppose I've raised my sights to pick & choose. Scale of 5 ... ONE. Pong & Pacman score better than that in my book. Thanks for trying; but, no thanks.

Three minute review:

That's strange, this game tried to install itself to the Star Warrior folder (a previous Some Company giveaway). It's reminiscent of Alien Shooter and the RIP series, though the enemies are on a slightly larger scale.

Installation was a breeze with a combined activation and set up module. Controls are fully keyboard controlled with the ability to change key bindings from the options menu. Though you can use the mouse for shooting (left mouse button) and changing your weapons (mouse wheel). There is no problems with key bindings as far as I can see, though if your not paying attention you may think that reverse is forwards as the Humvee looks vaguely similar from the back, (though it isn’t, lol)

If you’re into killing you’ll like today’s offering. The game play isn’t very variable, but for a few minutes of mindless violence this game should sate your appetite. You start the game with three weapons a mini gun, flame thrower and missile launcher (accessible via the mouse wheel) as well as a mine thrower. You’ll find power ups scattered amongst the trees in the first level that initially contained health packs only, or information points (that looked like suitcases). I didn’t play beyond level one so I can’t say whether there are new weapons to collect, or whether the enemy get vehicles themselves.

Images

The following images aren’t exhaustive. It’s too nice a day (in the UK) to play arcade games so the following images were taken just to give you a quick impression of the game. When Googling Humvee Attack I didn’t get any hits which would lead me to believe the game has recently been released.

All on one page

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Humvee%20Attack/

As a Slideshow

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Humvee%20Attack/?albumview=slideshow

Music:

The music (if you can call it that) does fit with the theme, but if you want real music you can do a swap for other MP3’s. There’s no conversion necessary, though you will need to rename the music to the two files you replace. (Main and Menu). You can find the music files within the Data/music folder of the Humvee Attacks games folder.

Conclusion

It’s not the most endearing or exciting of games but I’ll be keeping this one as there’s some fun to it. The controls are a little difficult at first, but once you get used to them they are okay.

I reckon this is worth a reasonable 6.5 out of 10.

Thank you ‘Some Company’ and the Game Giveaway team for something different for a change. (not that I’m knocking the repeats as I lost many of them last year and also there are many who hadn’t discovered the giveaway project last year).
