Sorry mate,I checked the forums too late.
Yes,you should have uninstalled the previous version.
If not you can run both versions with no problem
or remove the previous manually or with the add/remove programs feature.

Using add/remove you may have to remove the empty Aptedit program folder and the shortcuts to the previous version in your start menu.

As I expected no help was forthcoming. Their FAQ says that it is ok to install over the new one. I guess this doesn't apply to GAOTD versions because I installed the new version and it looks like I have two different AptEdit and so far both work.

I smell trouble in the future though. I am sure that having two versions of the same program is not a good thing.

I always have this problem when GAOTDs are updates of a previously offered and installed GAOTD. There's never any information concerning the different options. Should I install the new one on top of the other? Install the new version after uninstalling the older one? What kind of effect will I see if I choose the wrong one?

In some cases, uninstalling older versions is mandatory, specially if the version number has increased, like from 3.4 to 4.0. In other cases uninstalling the previous one may cause problems because most uninstallers do not remove everything and the new one may behave differently because there are files from two different versions.

So what has worked for you in today's GiveAway? I am worried because I have re4aliced that in most cases, at least the ones I have asked this same question, people who check and post in the Forums do not like the GiveAway and don't use it, so they can only guess. I wouldn't be surprised if only a very small fraction of GAOTD visitors look in the Forums, or even have registered to be able to post.

I would hate posting this stuff in the comments. It is getting late and the bulk of all visitors have already left, so I don't know if posting int the comments would do any good. I have noticed that the one of the guys from AptEdit has posted one comment. I don't think he checks Forums.

I would really, really appreciate some help.

TIA,
