			<description><p>Uhhh.. Y'know, I'm not sure. about a list. though <a href="http://links.giveawayoftheday.com/afterdawn.com/glossary%2F">Afterdawn's Glossary</a> might be a good start.</p>
<p>MP3 is a lossy (as opposed to FLAC, which does not lose quality when compressing) audio compression format- I think it's MPEG-1 audio layer III technically. MPEG-4 is a lossy video compression format. so is MPEG-2, which compresses less and loses less.</p>
<p>AVI, MKV, VOB, etc. are container files which usually have at least one video and one audio stream twined together in different 'standard' ways.</p>
<p>Flash, Quicktime, and the flavors of RealMedia are proprietary formats. DivX too, after version 4- XviD is it's free twin.

<p>Where can I find a simple primer to educate me in the how and why for the various multimedia modes?
