BEAT IT!

No, this game has nothing to do with Michael Jackson.

Here is a description from the creator:

"The long-standing feud between the humans and the Vorglon reaches its high point when the Vorglon turn it into a war of attrition.

The Vorglon use mass drivers to send endless unguided cargo containers at high speed over the intergalactic shipping lanes. Humanity defends against these by deploying an Automatic Defense Base into the local shipping lanes, where it can destroy them effectively as they use the automatic exit ramps, which are few in number.

The Vorglon also send numerous other assailants which fly in under their own power at lower speed. You are charged with defending against them using your highly mobile Lead Defense Unit (which is constructed from lead to maximize weight so as to minimize recoil).

To defend you must use your power shot and your weak shot. The power shot is effective against all your opponents, but it is powered by human lives, so each shot you fire still reduces the human population. Make your shots count! Your alternative weapon, the weak shot, does not consume human lives and fires faster, but it does much less damange and is only effective against the weakest foes."
______________________________________________________

The graphics of this game reminded me a little of a latter level in the old classic Atari TEMPEST video game.

One cool thing about this game is that as ammo is being fired at the enemy, music is created. Watch the shooter on the left....as it fires, it is creating some of the music!

There is a tutorial, which I highly recommend trying first. This game can be windowed, as per instructions on the download page (I believe you click the "windowed" file in the game's folder. As always, this game is FREE.

May 27, 2008

Tired of spending time playing Windows MineSweeper? How about a much better bomb game.....ACIDBOMB.

Here is a description from the creator of the game:

"Acidbomb is a fifty level puzzle game where you must find the pistons used to trigger a bomb and defuse them before time runs out. There are many bombs scattered around the world, from biological bombs that have hair-sensitive triggers to napalm bombs that are exploding at the seams, to nuclear warheads that have challenged even the highest trained bomb defusal agent.

Along with this game you get the Virtual Bomb Simulator which allows you to make your own bombs, and a minigame called Ac!drop that is completely different from the rest of the game...but you'll see that for yourself.

Given that all the bombs in the game have random pistons, you will never EVER solve a bomb the same way twice. Ever."
____________________________________________________

I enjoy playing this game, and it can be quite challenging. It may take a while to get used to how to play, but it's worth it. There is a nice tutorial included.

Download ACIDBOMB HERE

Here's a nice game: AVANTGARDE

Here is a short description from the game creator:

"Game description: An interactive homage to one of the greatest artist of the XX century. It's a mix between a color puzzle game and a space shooter"

This game is tough to describe, so I won't. Just go try it out. I can almost guarantee you've never played a game quite like it.

LOST IN THE STATIC

Here is an interesting game I found yesterday. It is a platformer with a weird twist. Everything looks like static.....kinda like when your TV is on a channel that is not broadcasting. The sprites, platforms, dangerous items, attackers......they are also static, but a different static so that you can see them. The weird thing is, if you take a screen shot of the game, you will not see them.....all you will see is static.

Here is a description from the download site:

"Lost in the Static is a simple little game that uses some surprising aspects of the human perceptual system to create a visible world out of animating static.

Please note that this display is not suitable for everyone! Some people find they get headaches or nausea, or their eyes get "all woggly". If you do not find the experience pleasant, stop playing!"

The game worked fine on my VISTA Home Basic.

You can download this FREE game here:

MAY 22, 2008

Okay.....let's see if I can get things back to normal here.

Funky, I picked this game out just for YOU! However, if others want to download it and have fun with it, then who am I to stop them? You'll just have to share your games with them.

CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD is my game for today. Here is a good description from playthisthing.com:

"Chivalry is Not Dead is a short indie graphic adventure with fairly entertaining dialog and cartoony graphics; you play Phlegmwad, the assassin of Lord Horrible, sent to kill the Queen of Everything. When I say "short," there are only about 8 scenes, and if you do the absolute obvious thing (go kill the Queen), you can finish it in about 5 minutes.

From a design perspective, what's interesting is that it leans in the direction of bushiness.

What do I mean by that? Well, basically all adventure games can be mapped onto a decision tree, and typically, there's either a single linear path through the tree, sometimes with a few branches to different outcomes at the end; or there's some freedom of motion through the branches, but you ultimately wind up exploring all available branches in a single session. Chivalry is Not Dead instead offers multiple solutions to most puzzles; different responses to you by the characters depending on your actions; and many potential endings. In other words, most adventure games have decision trees with few branches; Chivalry is Not Dead is bushy.

As a result, it's far more re-playable than the typical adventure; once you've reached one ending, rather than think "Oh, it's over, time to look for a new game," you tend think "Well, what if instead of doing that I'd done something else?" and restart to see.

This is, of course, why most adventure games aren't bushy--the developer spent a lot of time crafting each segment, and wants to make sure you see everything on your single play-through. In a bushy game, you might never see some branch, and if so, their development time was wasted, in essence. In this sense, the shortness of Chivalry is Not Dead works in its favor; replaying it to explore other options isn't a chore, since it's a fast play, so you're more inclined to do so.

You won't find tricky puzzles here; it's intentionally straightforward (although some of the non-violent options are harder to find). Nor will it occupy you for days. But it's entertaining, and the design approach is original."
______________________________________________________________

Here is a description from the creator:

"Chivalry is Not Dead is a game. It is also a story. Not the kind that unfolds passively, but more like the bedtime stories you may have heard when you were younger, where you got to periodically interrupt and change the outcome.

Chivalry is Not Dead is a cartoon fairytale. It is also a social commentary of sorts. To be honest, it doesn't seem to very sure what it is. It does, however, try its best to be entertaining.

Chivalry is Not Dead is not an epic. Like a bedtime story, it'll be over in an evening, but also like a bedtime story, it won't always be the same every time you play it.

Chivalry is Not Dead stars a horribly disfigured creature named Phlegmwad (whose head is conveniently covered by a paper bag), employed as an assassin for the evil Lord Horrible. His first task is to kill the good Queen of Everything. Or is it the evil Queen of Everything, and the good Lord Horrible? What do good and evil mean, anyway? This, in the end, will be up to you to decide."
______________________________________________________________

I have played this game and enjoyed it, especially the cartoon graphics and the humor (Imagine that.....ME liking the humor!).

This game worked fine with my VISTA Home Basic.

Okay....I am officially giving up on Introspect. It not only need the two additional files, but yet another which may only be a demo, in which case a permanent one may have to be purchased. So the game I was told is free evidently is NOT, therefore I should not have posted it here.

No more postings of games for me unless I have ACTUALLY PLAYED THEM!

May 21, 2008

INTROSPECT is a game I just ran across tonight. The download is large (128MB), but it looks like it could be worth it. I am downloading it as I type this, and so I have not yet played it. Here are some descriptions from the site:
______________________________________________________________

"Introspect is a surrealistic, non-violent first person painting adventure game for PC that uses the Unreal Tournament 2004 engine to put players into the mind of a mad artist who must fight through his personal demons to regain his sanity."

"Blow the dust off that copy of UT 2004 for this arty mod. Trading Link Guns for MC Escher-ish adventuring, you'll stop and enjoy the scenery."
______________________________________________________________

Check out the screen shots. What caught my attention was the reference in the description to M.C. Escher, who has always been a favorite artist of mine. I doubt there are many people who wouldn't recognize his style. If this game is as bizarre as his art, it'll be worth the download.

As with all games I list in this thread, it is FREE. Check it out here:

INTROSPECT

May 20, 2008

HOWELL BAT & BALL is becoming a favorite game for me. I am addicted.

Not sure if I can describe this game well enough, so just try it and see for yourself. But I will attempt to give you an idea of the game:

You have a paddle, just like in breakout games. The ball that hits your paddle bounces rather than ricochets. The paddle is controlled by your mouse. Small squares of different colors scroll top to bottom on the screen, and you try to hit them. There are also gray squares that contain power-ups. There is a timer running in the upper left, and some power-ups give you extra time. If you miss a ball, a new one drops immediately, and there is no limit on the balls. Play continues until the timer runs out. Your high scores are tracked.

I wasn't thrilled with the music when it first started playing, but after a few minutes it really seems as if the music is perfect for the game. You can always turn down your volume if you don't agree.

My description does not do justice to this game. It has an average rating of 9.4/10 on 64Digits.com. Only four people had rated it prior to tonight, so it was a vote shy of getting a published rating. I voted on it tonight, and now the rating of 9.4 is shown.

This game was created in 2006. It didn't get a ton of downloads, but now that it has a published rating, that should change.

If you like a simple game that is fun, try this one.

HOWELL BAT & BALL

Graylox you are so funny.

To CP I also regularly check this thread and apologise for not responding.

I really enjoyed the Power. And I hope that you continue posting alternative games, especially in the absence of GameGiveaway. I will certainly continue reading and trying out the ones which appeal to my personal style.

Thanks again.

BLOCKHEAD is your free game for today.....at least on this forum!

Here is a description from the creator:

"You are "BlockHead", a puzzled adventurer seeking out a collection of lost diamonds. The object of the game is to get Blockhead through a series of puzzles by lifting and moving blocks, activating switches, opening doors, and performing many other challenging feats. It is a challenging and addicting game that will have you entertained for hours upon hours. It has 16 levels, and 5 tutorial levels. But the best part of all is that it is easily updated with new levels that I will continue to release."

I've played this game and enjoyed it. I like the graphics, and it takes some thinking to solve each level. Give it a shot. You can download it at the following link:

Thank you Creamy for your thank you.
Yes I know what you wanted to say, you / I can really feel lonely here.
Such a "hit-count" thingy would be funny or a singing gorilla, he could at the same time scare those trolls away, which give Mods, Admins and BuBBy a hard time.

GrayLoxThanx.....I wasn't looking for thanks, but rather just wondering if anyone is reading this thread. They supply no "hit count" for these pages, so every time I post a game, I have no idea if anyone has looked at the page, or if a thousand people have looked. I decided that if I asked the question, and a few people responded, then more than likely there are a lot more reading it who don't respond. But I also figured that if I asked an NO ONE responded, then no one was reading it.

I shall continue posting free games as long as I can find them, and as long as there is at least one person who wants me to.

Nola & Funky.....thanks for the replies!
