FunkyMomma, thanks for the Nordinho suggestion. I've passed it on to the grandkids, too. It's too bad that Food Fight concept isn't available in another kind of game (read: a more interesting site). It's odd to see your opponent following you around the site, trash talkin' and throwing stuff at you.

Hi, Lordloc! Great list of games there; and excellent advice on supervision, also.

I like the idea of them being able to do the same things on a game that they do in real life,i.e. fishing, music, farming. I've never seen a game that offered that sort of realism and it will be the first one I check out.

I've downloaded 'most every game from this site as well as from the freeware library, members' posts, Google and suggestions. That's in addition to Real Arcade, Wild Tangent and Big Fish games. Mostly, the grandkids just roll their eyes... (they ask for World of Warcraft or D & D ...ahhh no!). I think I'll start a thread for suggestions to developers. Nothing ventured, nothing gained eh?

Thanks again, Lordloc.. and thank you Stephen, for all that you do.

There are a ton of MMO's both free and pay that cater to the younger crowd. However, the people playing them are another story, and you have to watch kids very carefully. In fact there are a few I'm thinking of right now, both RPG'ish, a racing game (that's awesome) and others that defy a category.

Trackmania Nations Forever which just got released the other day is a terrific free racing game with literally millions of tracks available online to play with others. You need a fairly decent computer to play it, but it's worth it if you can.

http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=51362 for information on it. It's available on Fileplanet, and many other download sites. Just note it's a large download at about 600 megs (I think).

RPG wise there is Mabinogi, which is a F2P MMORPG, that offers a "living world" for you to do pretty much ANYTHING you want. Play and make music, do quests, farm, fish etc etc. It's all in there to do. Just the people playing it can sometimes be, brash. So if your gonna let a kid play it, watch them sometimes and let them know. This is a near 900 meg download, so keep that in mind also.

http://mabinogi.nexon.net/

Then there is Trickster Online, another Ragnarok Online type game, with a ton of players, but again the community makes or breaks it for you. There are plenty of other games that cater to the "cute" or "anime" looking style. You just have to know where they are :)

Oddly I was thinking of doing that the other day then saw a post that included kids games. I'll certainly check out what my son and his friends are playing and make up a list. Theres some good games sites including Pokemon and most of the cartoon channels from Boomerang to Cartoon network that run sites for the kids. You'll find some excellent platform games on those.

I'm really busy at the moment, but I'll cobble together a list soon. :)

Hey Wabbit :) How's the recovery coming along?

Unable to PM you, so I'll risk hijacking my own thread ..

I wonder .. since you have young'ns around the house, could you perhaps make a thread with some of your links for sites/games that 7 - 10 year olds might enjoy? I've tried finding some for the neighborhood kids but without much success. Most safe activities seem to be science-oriented, but those only hold the attention of one budding geek/engineer.

It seems that age group is all but forgotten by developers. They are too old for most children's games and too young to be immersed in MMORPG. The popular racing games are fun but gory and the shoot-em-ups have strategy and skill levels but are the worst of the gory genre. Platforms just get old after a while.

Surely there are some challenging and entertaining activities that do not involve blood 'n guts scenarios. Um... aren't there?
