Thanks to RunesageMagik for the reply and comments.

For me, there are outstanding examples of freeware and there are pathetic examples. I take the bad with the good (it's free, after all). I just don't hang on to the bad. After decades of trying freeware, I still enjoy the pursuit and appreciate hearing the experiences of others.

If activation is poorly implemented, there probably would have been other, more frustrating, problems down the road. Uninstall and move on.

Hi everyone:

Quite similar what happens to me. I installed the program the usual way after activating it. Nite, nite computer! Next day, when I return to use it, it pops up a window asking me to choose how to pay for the required fee. So, I look in the about menu and it says: "Comfort Clipboard is Shareware. Using of unregistered version expires in 26 days" (as of today 04/13/08). I have seen another comment in the Italian Forum -it's written in English- where a person says more or less the same. I use Windows XP Home Edition, and, I repeat that I did what I use to do anytime I install any give away software.

Regards

Sorry, Freeby, didn't know you left me a message. Don't mean to whine or sound ungrateful, but even I'm growing tired of the lack of day-to-day continuity and I'm baffled why nobody behind the curtain (seems) to see a need to improve it:

a) 6(?) different versions of Readme files needed to plod through the creative registration steps;

b) the increasing reports of quirks and incompatibilities (not GAOTD's or the vendors' fault... blame Billie Behemoth for his multiple OS versions and incessant patches, all unstable, flakey or at the very least finicky);

c) the confusion plaguing so many users about how precisely to deploy some of the more sophisticated programs, especially if there is no practical way for non-geek users to "test" them until a catastrophic event occurs;

d) (something I've experienced with a couple programs)... the mysterious NON-registration (I still cannot find any proof that I have a full copy of yesterday's DataRecoveryProgram... aside from the ephemeral pop up that the call out successfully connected with GAOTD), and this nagging deregistration issue (I lost my full version of at least 1 program recently). I suspect this is outside GAOTD's control, possibly having to do with a user's individual clean up programs (Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, etc) incorrectly erasing reg files.
Still, it doesn't explain WHY THE HELL THE VENDORS AREN'T REQUIRED TO CREATE A MORE STABLE AND UNIFORM OR RECOVERABLE REGISTRATION KEY METHOD?
Maybe create a simple registry log on the GAOTD server, so at a later date users could auto-verify they'd met the initial registration steps, with a redundancy lock (unique key) to prevent most abuse. (akin to handling lost password requests without maintaining a costly live help desk)
Far too many people experience situations like reformatting, new PC acquisitions, etc. that result in unwarranted attrition. Sure, if a program proves "very valuable", they should buy it; but with so many competing appls., most are garnering a less stellar "rarely used" or "nice as a freebie" rating that makes the loss a "mere" nuisance, inconvenience that generates a chronic but low level of dissatisfaction. harrummmph

All this begs for a better design to the forums, more in line with other tech sites, but of course that would likely require a tremendous input of moderation, labor and then the name would have to change from Giveawayoftheday to Sharewareoftheday.

The Admin message I mentioned (won't help ya now, post 24-hour window of op) was:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/comfort-clipboard/#comments

5. Hello everyone!
If you cannot activate program and still are getting 30-days trial messages, follow this steps:
1) Run Setup.exe and install the software
2) Do not start the software or exit (make sure that program still not running in the background (check your system tray)
3) Run Activate.exe
4) Start the software and check if it’s registered.
Regards,

Oh-oh, Robert, I must confess, I don't know how/where to find that.

Vista looks quite nice, but as a complete computer idiot even after I use them for several years, I can't say whether it is good or bad, I can only say, how I find those things I need. My expedition into the unknown lands of Vista didn't come very far yet; had some other hurdles to clear the last days.

Give it one more try,will you:

Please make sure *no* other installed program uses the keyboard shortcut:Win+Insert.

PS I'd love to test run Vista
Sure Vista can't be that bad,is it?

Robert,
nothing will help. It's all the same, with or without Mamutu.
I'll go back to Hamsin, it's reliable but very "small" or poor.
Loved ditto, but suddenly it didn't want to play with me any longer.
My new Vista :( computer isn't online yet.
Thanks again.

Hi
Try disabling Mamutu ,launch the program and tell me what happens..

Second option: reinstall Comfort Clipboard without Mamutu being active

Strange.I seem to recall you had a new Vista computer..

Graylox, there's an Admin message 'splaining how to get it to register, but nothing about that access violation. It only took me 2 tries following their method. As far as EAccess Violations, Googling suggests possible solutions will require you to purge as much of your previous installs' detritus, download it again to (hopefully) ensure a clean zip, and try to install again. Ron may be right about being "over protected" as during the install one of my security packages alerted to something attempting to modify a system file. I was given a Yes/No choice and - while wincing and swallowing hard - I chose Yes. Often live to regret doing that.

(the growing variety of Read-me files reminds me of a menu at a Chinese restaurant... I'll have a #5, a #19 and a side order of #7, hold the chopsticks and don't drip any sauce in the hard drive.

Hi Graylox

Hi
Your system might be 'overprotected'.
I had to allow this program to create some system hooks or it wouldn't run either.
(and it gave similar application errors prior to allowing it)

~Robert~

Btw Did you get to taste that forbidden fruit a while ago?

Have installed 3 times , deleted, reinstalled, activated before and after, set up went fine, but the prog will not start.
I had some problems with other clipboard tools in the past, and am still looking for something new. But my system Win XP SE 2 is very nitpicky.
