Suki,

I guess one of the reasons we only listened to the Spanish version was that we could actually understand it. It is funny. I am a 70's child, but Spain was a decade behind with respect to just about everything. We loved all good English music even though we didn't know what it all meant.

We could make some things, but the rest was left to the imagination and you know what? When I came to the US and learned what was actually said I was almost always disappointed.

I was 20 at the time and didn't know squat, but most adults (should) know that the power of imagination has no competitor. The ladies have known this since the beginning of time and use it a lot for their own advantage. There are many implications to this statement but I won't get into them.

I am afraid that the spelling of the famous Mexican music style varies from Country to Country. In Spain we spell it Mariachi, but I've seen a lot of Mexicans spell it as you said. In the end it doesn't matter, as long as we understand each other...

As for the international characters, which I think is what you mean by marks (?), you should have a toolbar called "Language Bar". From it you can install different languages and there are shortcuts that let you choose which one you want to use. Then you have to learn the layout of the keyboard of the language you have chosen.

I learned were the keys were by opening the 'On Screen Keyboard' that you should find in the Start menu under Accessories>Accessibility. When you change the language by using shortcuts or manually from the language toolbar, the 'On Screen Keyboard' should change accordingly.

At first it can be tedious because you have to press the keys on the screen keyboard and the last window that was active before you clicked on the screen keyboard should display the desired character. After a while you learn where the keys are and it becomes much easier. I am not sure if this is a clear explanation (it's 5:30 am already) but I will gladly answer any question you may have.

Listening to those songs brought tears to my eyes from the memories of the simplicity of childhood life.

Thank you all for the memories,

AxCut

AxCut

I like both, one I can totally understand, the other(Spanish)somewhat!

There is just something about songs in Spanish that I love. Also like allot of the Latin Dance Music from the 70's(dating oneself), I love(and won't spell it right, and spellcheck will not help this slaughter) Cumbias????

I was "so able" to follow that rhythm on the dance floor!

Love (here goes another slaughter), Mariache(just checked spelling should be correct) music! I worked in a restaurant, as a waitress at that time in Paso. Every weekend the Mariache's would play. Then they would come back by our station, I would tell them I wanted their outfits, lol, loved the buttons!!!!!!! I think it was because I love Trumpets so much( I like BS&T too), but there was also a message to the songs they were singing! I was always in a good mood when they played and I was working!!!!!!!!
Oh, to go back!!!!!!!!

Suki

P.S. How were you able to get the (I''ll just call them) marks above the letters? I can write them, but don't know, or if I can, do it on my computer?

Check this one out, lol! I can understand some!

Your welcome freebird31 :) I do some song writing myself and that poem was so great I couldn't help myself. I am very very glad you liked it because it may mean that my song writing is not as bad as I think.

I don't want to pour more gasoline in the debate, but IMHO I prefer the Spanish versions of Abba's songs. This may be because, when they came out, I was a teen living in Spain and nothing can compete against childhood memories.

I downloaded the one from Kamy, my link(that I tried to insert) didn't work, also downloaded the Spanish version of Fernando! The first one you gave me had poor sound quality(I did this before you posted, but I remember downloading that one first), so I had checked out the others.
This then caused me to do further research for ABBA in Spanish!

I have Rhapsody, free, get to listen to 25 full songs a month.

I also do Coke Rewards, save your codes get free music downloads from Rhapsody!

When I did all this searching earlier, I found: ABBA ORO: Grandes Exitos on Rhapsody, 15 tracks in mp3 and in Spanish. Chiquitita was on it, also the flip side of the 45, Estoy Sonando(I have a Dream)! Fernando was on it too!
The CD in Spanish looks like my English Version of Abba Gold(or greatest hits). But doesn't contain near as many songs.

I even upgraded my Real Player from V10 to V11, to be able to download the videos, which caused me to loose my License to burn from my vinyl! Oh well, I have Cool Record Edit Pro. I also take the Rhapsody downloads and Burn them to CD right away! As with everything Real, it gets lost on my PC, have to hunt for it! I then rip it to Media Player! That way I can always find it!

I am in 7th Spanish Heaven!!!!!!

Thanks, Suki

P.S. Robert, I am singing once again like I did before!
PP.SS. I like that second one, I downloaded that one too! Have to do some research, but in talking to my X today, I believe he said that one of them recently passed away???
Just looked, it was a former drummer, not one of the 4.

Hi FreeBird,

I've spent half my life in Spain, so I have 'translated' the poem to Castillian, one of the many dialects of Spanish.

Also, in an attempt to keep the feeling and the rhythm of the poem, I may have abused the poetic license just a bit.

Anyway, here's what I got.

Tu Eres el Hombre

El tipo de Hombre
Que es capaz de embrujarme
Sonriendo en una foto
Con Atracción Intoxicante,

Eres el tipo de Hombre que,
Si digo una palabra mágica
Vendría directo a mí
A conocer una mujer sutil y simpática

Eres el tipo de Hombre
Que podría ser mi galán
Siento que eres perfecto para mí
Tu rostro es pura felicidad…

Eres el tipo de Hombre
Que me gustaría cuidar
Dándote todo tus sueños
Y por supuesto algo más :)

Pareces ser el tipo de Hombre
Pero pronto me daré cuenta
Que prefieres besar a un hombre bello
O aullar a la luna llena

Pareces ser el tipo de hombre
Y en mis sueños lo he creado
Pero si yo pudiera intentaría
Ser parte del mismo lado

Eres el tipo de Hombre
Divertido e Inteligente
Amigablemente musical
Pero si te asusto…VETE

Pareces ser el tipo de Hombre
Como yo, fuerte y creativo
De arriba a abajo, cariñoso, amable,
Y por dentro muy afectivo

If you have any questions I'll try to answered them.

Thanks Robert, now if only I could find a copy of the song in Spanish to download.

I have done a small search and all I can find is the English version which I already have on CD.

I probably still have the 45 of it somewhere, but I think it had a crack in it!

@ maizeydayze: thank you very much. I hope you're right :-))

@ suki: I do not speak spanish at all. that is the problem... I do however have a feel for language, and I do know when it's been translated wrong. that's the thing with poetry.. one means a certain thing.. but when translated it becomes something else.

it was quite hilarious actually.. I was talking to this spanish speaking guy in Costa Rica, and here I was, trying to say: Mán, you look good, and what I ended up saying was: magnet seem okay.

so, I threw away the translators and downloaded some spanish lessons instead. whahahahahahaha.

anyway...
I do hope someone will translate it for me. But it's no rush.
thanks for trying suki!

Maybe you should have posted Se Habla Espanol(do you speak spanish)!

Don't have the proper inflections, don't know if the spelling is correct, I gave away my Spanish Dictionary, but I can understand allot when it is spoken!

I checked out Firefox Add-ons, just looking for a dictionary, they had allot of conversion utilities, but I don't think it would be the same if you actually gave it to someone who understood the language. I know that Firefox has a language tool in my options, but I never used it.

I will copy it and see if I can get one of my friends to translate it??????

I like it, but would love to hear it in Spanish! My favorite song that ABBA did was Chiquitita , I had the Spanish version and also have the English one. Since their native language is neither one, they sure did a good job! I like the Spanish version better! I lived in El Paso for 5 years, lol, can swear with the best of them! But I think that's the first thing you learn in any language!

Did you know "Macho" means man in Spanish, lmao! Viejo(if I am correct on the spelling is old)! They would probably say Macho Viejo(man old), instead of Viejo Macho(old man)!

Would it be possible for anyone to translate this for me to Spanish? I really can't and the on-line translators make a mess of it!

thank you!

You Are The Man

You are the kind of Man
Who puts a spell on me
By smiling on a photograph
Intoxicating Chemistry

You are the kind of Man
Who, - if I said a magic word
Would be coming straight to me
To meet a lovely lady bird

You are the kind of Man
Who might just be my gentle knight…
Somehow you feel right to me
Your face is pure delight...

You are the kind of Man
I'd feel like caring for
To give you all you might have dreamed
And then of course some more :-)

You séém to be the kind of Man
But I may find out soon
You'd rather kiss a lovely guy
Or howl at the full moon

You seem to be the kind of Man
And I created just a dream
But if I could I surely would
Try to be a team ;-)

You are the kind of Man
Intelligent and fun
Musical and friendly
And if I scare you...RUN

You seem to be the kind of Man
Strong and creative like me
Up and down, lovely, kind
Sweet sweet heart internally

Fb31w©

I can post what the online translator did, but I'd rather that someone translates the feel of this thing instead of litterally. if possible... thanks.
