Thanks for pointing out #56 - I've edited it to make it more GOTD Friendly.

I suspect the moderator just skims the comments (at times there are a lot to read through) and some slip through that should probably not.

Regards,

I saw that #56 comment too, rezidue. Maybe they are randomly selected for posting,
then that's it. Cause that one is quite bad imo.

Okay it happened again yesterday and I was trying to help GAOTD by alerting them to a post that should have been removed. I even commented that I didn't understand why only about 50% of my comments make it. I wonder if it's the same moderator every time?

This was a bit different as I didn't expect this particular comment to be posted but did think GAOTD would take the other down.

I'm sorry but I'm starting to get quite upset when I read so many crappy comments that get through (repeats, copy pastes, etc.) and yet when I try to help I'm shot down. AND if others can leave stupid remarks why can't I? - LOL

Check it out here:

Comment #56 http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/paragon-encrypted-disk-40/

One other thing occurs to me that I think Bubby has also said, at least indirectly, before. Sometimes if a moderator is going through a lot of comments, most of which are similar, I imagine some start to prune out the same thought after it's been said a lot of times. Don't get me wrong, when you posted it, it may have only been said once or twice, or often not at all. But, if your post is down nearer the bottom of the moderation pile and 3, 4, or 5 above you say the same thing, some, not all, moderators might drop it. Some let most through, but others try and not turn the comments section in to a voting section on 1 or 2 issues, but try and pass comments that bring out new points. Even if you're point looked new when you wrote it. In other words, some try and avoid beating a dead horse. (Which I'm probably doing with that last sentence. :( )

I had one rejected today. It's been about 50-50 for me over the last month. Today, I posted a joke based on Bubby's biting criticism. I was satirical, not mean. However, I'm not surprised or bothered by the rejection. I was anticipating they would stop taking posts sooner or later today making fun of the software, since it was getting off topic. Of course, I'm not saying that would apply to any of your comments.

I posted, however, to try and clarify one thing. The difficulty with this discussion is that there's more than one moderator of the comments section and the only that I know of that is involved in the forums is Bubby. I'm not even sure that Bubby even knows who else does it. I know from what he said that he doesn't know who it is at any particular time. He's posted here on his philosophy of moderating, but he's also made it clear that there may not be any hard core rules and every moderator is different. He's joked that sometimes you could post "banana, banana, banana" and it would go through. Lately, though, the other moderators seem to be getting more selective.

So you folks may be correctly asking a question there isn't currently an answer for. Maybe a lot of people will have to use the "contact" email form to express their views on moderation. At least we know they reacted to the large amount of email contacts they got over the late email problem.

Unfortunately, one thing we know for sure. GOTD hardly EVER gets directly involved in this forum and we still haven't seen much, if any, evidence that they know what we're saying here.

I believe I have had one that did not post in the past and I wonder if it's because I disconnected from the internet right after posting it. The post may not have had time to get into the system that way. I wonder if that is what you may have done. I typically wait for a few minutes before disconnecting now and I haven't had a problem that I can remember. Although, I did have one that was cut but I assumed it was because it was not "on topic" at the time and I should have posted it in the forums instead.

Just thinking out loud...

Can I ask why my comments on the giveaway page keep getting deleted (or not approved for posting)? I thought you were just deleting the negative comments as the last couple that got deleted were critical of the software. That's bad enough as it is but yesterday I left a positive comment on Ingenious and it has disappeared. That's about 4 or 5 in the last couple of months now that were removed or not approved for no apparent reason.
