Hello Ambrosia & graylox, how are you doing?

I have the same problem as you do Ambrosia. Only I ignored it because I found a workaround, but it got gradually worse to the point that the only program that will work with the GAOTD .zip files is SecureZip or pkzip (are they the same?). I can't use WinZip, 7-Zip, and others. And when I use SecureZIP I don't even open the 'Contents Window'. I right click on the zip file and select 'Extract Here' from the context menu.

All other .zip and .rar files open fine with all the other unzippers. I think the settings that take care of the extensions (things like .txt or .exe) on my desktop are not as they should be.

But I am not that surprised. Recently installations 'hijack' computers. Some of them will change your IE or FF home page and mess extensions and such.

As long as it works I am happy. If that breaks as well, I'll extract the files in my laptop and copy them using a USB stick.

Sorry I couldn't help,

AxCut

Hi Grayfox...

Thanks for the response. I tried the last time I had this problem (a week ago) using different zip tools, following Goodgotd's suggestion. I installed and used 7-zip. 7-zip failed also. Gave the error: CRC failed in 'Setup.exe'. file is broken. I missed Mamutu because of this problem. I wish I could figure out what the problem is and resolve it cause it is quite frustrating.

Hearing that others here are having the same problem tells me all the troubleshooting I am doing on my own computer is likely an unnecessary expenditure of effort. If it was just my system others would not be reporting the same problem. I use Win XP, sp 2. Is it possible there is a conflict in the server software with Win XP or service pack 2?

Hi Ambrosia, try another zip tool.
Winzip has often this problem. I use 7-zip, had never any problems.
Search older posts here in the forums, you'll see, that others wrote the same as you.

Hi, everyone...

I have had this problem trying to extract files downloaded from this site off and on. I get a bad file error. Today I had trouble extracting the titan backup file. I thought it might be a problem in the download using Firefox, which is my usual browser. Hate it though I do, I closed Firefox and brought up IE. Re-downloaded the titan software and it unzipped flawlessly, no errors, installed and activated perfectly, but crashed when it opened up the browser to view a message. I haven't restarted it yet, will do that in a bit and further test it out. Then I went to download today's game, using Firefox, and got the same bad file error when trying to extract. I closed Firefox, cursing it, and opened IE and downloaded the game. Got the same bad file error when trying to extract it. That helped me realize it is not Firefox causing the problem since it happened with IE as well. I tested my connection to the Internet, no problem. Downloaded the game using the mirror site, same problem when trying to extract it. It is not the software I use to extract because other downloads from other sites extract flawlessly. It only happens here. Any ideas or suggestions? I am tired of missing offers cause I can't extract the files.

Update:
Well, continuing in troubleshooting mode, I took the next step which always is: when nothing else works reboot Windows. I rebooted and the game downloaded, extracted, installed and activated flawlessly.

Should have done that before I posted. Going for more coffee now. <sigh>
