nets under the trees to catch 'em- those are the chestnuts!

what other kinds of pix you prefer?

I have a large shop to store parts in.

yep, piles is about right, but it stores well if you know the tricks.

Well I'll be a dirty bird! I actually got one for once!!!!!! Hooray! Goody, those cell foam pads do come in handy. We've bought them purposely to make a too firm mattress be a bit softer! My question to you is this: WHERE are you storing all the things you're keeping for a rainy day?? Aren't you going to end up with piles and piles of 'stuff'?? LOL
As for the horse chestnut, we had 2 huge ones removed .. one was hit by lightening, and they were a BIG pain. Every time hubby had to use the riding mower, we had to rake up all those burrs first so they wouldn't flatten the tires! And some of the burrs were in bits and pieces, thanks to the squirrels. They don't feel too good if walking outside barefoot either!

pending feedback from copmom, here are some not-flower shots.

first up is a nice ford ranchero- I have another 15 shots of this from various angles- a shot of the timbers supporting the train tracks, then on to a couple of foliage shots. this is the common horse chestnut; those leaflets are 9-12" long. and this is a tree-of-heaven that has taken over the northwest corner of my property. alas, the closest one is male.

be warned that though it's called 'chinese sumac', it certainly isn't a sumac, and is as or more invasive than rambler rose- hard as that may be to believe.

I suppose I should have said 'parts usable for other projects', as repairing a mattress- while not impossible if you're hard up enough and willing to walk the walk and pay the price- isn't at all fun.

However, things that can be used elsewhere, ahh- there I see items of use indeed.

for example, after peeling the cover and outer layers that have been grimed and stained by 30 years of use off (the handles may be saved yet) I found 4 (2 top and bottom) serviceable moving pads to keep furniture from rubbing against and damaging each other in transit- other uses abound- and a pair of half-inch open-cell foam pads, all 6 feet by 7 feet (california king). just need aired out.

add the to-be-liberated edge rods of roughly 3/16" diameter and high grade steel (my next macro focus paddle frame this should do nicely for), and then there are 6-foot [under tension] extension coil springs and ~6 inch compression springs to be had- the center rows of compression springs should have lots of life left for vibration-damping platforms or centering.

plus all those lovely steel crimp connectors to hold things together. I grant that the spot-welds are going to be a bit of work breaking, but worth it.

all in all I expect about a third or more of the whole mattress can be salvaged and put to good use in a variety of projects, [saving money and the hassle of finding parts of the same quality] and the rest will be easily carted off to the dump in our station wagon, saving gas and hassle over getting the use of a pickup.

good one violet, but too stiff!

yep, copmom, that's got it- I'm taking apart our old mattress for parts and to fit the leftovers into our station wagon to take to the dump.

soon as we get back from wal-mart I'll set some pix up- what do you want if not flowers? assuming I've got some- or can take some- I'm easy.

yeppers, didn't put that in- just the pills. ice hurts for a while. I use gel packs wrapped in towels- not as messy. heat's for sore muscles.

BDTFBY, got *lots* of primary-responder info, fyi my 'home first-aid' kit takes up 3 20mm ammo cans and runs all the way to surgical instruments and 60 packs of various sutures. there was a 9 year gap when there was no doctor or ambulance in town.

she comes through again!

it's an antique curling iron from well before electric heated ones showed up.

here's the business end of a yellow flowering succulent, some purple flowers peeking through a chair and a couple of yellow flowers with a resting wasp nearby.

I also posted some bonus shots earlier over in the warning: thread.

Goody, looks like a curling iron. I could tell by the first shot, right off. But the second shot confirmed it! :)

no, this is a chromed steel hand tool, old (kerosene lamp era) and somewhat specialized, today the same tool is *very* different in appearance and most (I think) women (and some men) have at least one. it's sitting on a brightly colored cloth.
