Nice one. I hope things continue to improve. she must be such a star.

I worked with children for a short time while working at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. I was always amazed at what little heroes they were. Though I remeber one young Fella caused a lot of head aches because whenever they got him into the anaestetics room he'd refuse to be put to sleep for the surgical procedure that was needed. It transpires both his parents were doctors and had been very graphic in explaining the dangers of anaestetics and surgery. So he'd become obsessed with the dangers and therefore had refused time and time again.

Good luck Hannah, I wish you a speedy recovery to full health and a happy life.

That's wonderful, Lauri! I've been wondering about Hannah also. So happy she's doing well.

Did I tell you that I have two friends that just recently had the same procedure? One in April, she's in the clear and one in May, she's starting chemo this week.

For all of you that have been asking about Hannah, just realized she did do an update on her web site that fills you in on the outcome of everything. Check her "My diary", and also check her "More About Me". There's new pictures as well.

Thanks to all that shared their well wishes! Things are good. Just got some photos of them on vacation, a week at Yellowstone National Park and then a week at the Grand Teton's.. so all is well!!

Guess after they give her the radiation treatment for the bad cells they found in the thyroid 'bed', they'll probably have to do another scan again.. don't know any more than I've posted at this point! I wonder if radiation treatment makes the hair fall out like chemo does? I went down that chemo road 6 years ago and that's NO fun. For gals, bald is not beautiful even if all the guys seem to be shaving their heads nowadays!! My, how vain I am. *smile

Copmom....Praise God! It's good that your're able to look at the difficult situation and find something to laugh about, I'm sure Hannah will laugh at it at some point as well. Actually I have a feeling she's alrerady doing that. She has such a positive attitude. Thanks for the update. I'll be praying that this treatment rids her of these "bad" cells for once and for all. Keep your chin up.....God bless!

Buckleysmom.. sorry, didn't mean to make you cry!!! But, now here's the latest on my granddaughter.. will do a copy/paste of the email I just got from my son today:

just got back from hannahs scan. looks good, but there are still cells in the thyroid bed so they are going to give her the obliteration level of radiation.. She is quite disappointed because she will need to be somewhat isolated, but the good news is that she can come home -- we have to stay 6 feet away from her. I guess we'll have to rent a stretch limo to get her home. I think the precautions we must take are humorous, such as flushing the toilet three times so her radioactive urine doesn't stay under the house, but she can't see it that way yet. Hopefully she will write something fun in her journal.

It would be fun to see what alarms we could set off. I know they have a radiation detector in the New York subway, there are some around the city of Escondido, but I don't know if she will be potent enough to set them off. : )

Copmom....just came across this thread about your grandaughter and I checked out her website. What a fantastic kid! She sounds like a real sweetheart and like she'd be fun to be around. I was especially pleased to read about her faith in Christ. What a testimony for one so young....Hallelujah! She is now on the top of my prayer list along with the rest of the family as I'm sure this is quite an ordeal for everyone.

PS: Just saw this on her website.. guess my son took the hint and updated??

February 12th Update on Hannah

The past two weeks have been much the same as far as routine goes. Hannah has two blood tests a week The doctor calls and modifies the quantities of medicines she takes. She varies in response from being lethargic to giddy. We are hoping for stability in all this. We also hope the para-thyroid jump starts soon.

Thanks everyone for all of your prayers and good wishes! My mom called yesterday to read me a letter Hannah just wrote her, and seems since she's been 'down', she's acquired a bunch of new skills to keep herself busy.. such as crocheting a scarf for her Jack Russell dog, playing the piano, and catching up on schoolwork! Even though she's only 14 she's taking oceanography at the local junior college as well as advanced math there. I think she's the only 14 year old attending classes there! (Me = proud grandma? LOL)

does your computer need to be on all the time? does it need to be connected to the internet all the time?

If it's like seti@home was, the answers are A) maybe not and B) probably not all the time. B) is usually an option, all the way back to ask even if online.. gets a block, crunches it offline, turms in the answer, gets another block.

A) can range from 'when it's on and idle it crunches, off is hold-in-place' for an old thing like this (slow, but on ac all night P3m 450 with a 50 minute battery) laptop to 'unless I say otherwise, run in the background' for new dual-cores that mostly don't use one fully.

so, you could use chargeup time for folding, or not.

I don't have any that go that far in desktops, but after jkdefrag finishes on the athlon xp 2800+, why not fold a bit. I'm tempted.

i'm on a laptop that is not always on or connected, but i'd like to make sure before i dismiss something so potentially important.

Glad to hear she is doing better. She is way too young to be going through this.

Wish we knew how to just cure everyone. I try to do my part curing Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer, Huntington's Disease, Osteogenesis, Imperfecta, Parkinson's Disease with my team/family. :) It's like SETI; only instead of searching for aliens, my PC is used to help cure diseases. Since October 1, 2000, over 1,000,000 CPUs throughout the world have participated in Folding@Home. Each additional CPU gives us an added boost in performance, allowing us to tackle more difficult problems or solve existing research faster or more accurately.
