Well, it passed without a ripple on http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/684, so I boiled it down, and dropped the basics in here. Only one not yet personally used is the SA office suite.

Filenote from 'shell tools' (Moon Software just stopped carrying the standalone, 206k 1999 version- should I post where it's still available, or just host it someplace, you think?) I use every day, along with parts of filemenu tools- 'create new folder', 'command line here' and 'delete and no move to recycle bin' get heavy use and I add 'open with notepad' to my R-C menu asap for .nfo. .ini and .reg file view & edit use.

Much better than the windows stock methods.

Hey wheres the games, lol.

Wow, what a comprehensive list of software man. That's going to take some time to work through. :) Thank you for all the time and effort you've put into this.

p.s.

From the list above I found three excellent HDD tools (HDDfirmware updater, HDD Tune and HDD Scan) I've become much more aware of how important it is to look after your HDD's after losing a series of them over a short period (probably due to poor cooling as they were all from the same computer), one of which had around 200G of data that I'd stupidly not got around to backing up, and some of which was no longer available. Even several recovery programs couldn't help with that one. :( Thanks again FF you are a star.

As some of you might recall, I've posted several freeware lists in the recent past. I structured those lists to be relevant to just one category of software at a time.

I'm breaking tradition with this list. I thought that this time I would provide a list that covered many, many bases. This list, while not pretending to be the end-all of lists, certainly should provide most forum members with a very good reference for most categories of freeware.

If you find yourself in a pickle and need to find a certain type of program fast, this just might be the 'go-to' list that you use. I hope it will be of use to some, if not all of you. As I said, it doesn't pretend to contain each and every freeware program in each category, just some that I consider to be useful.
