Sorry guys,

The crazy show is over. BuBBy is back.

One point - thank you for the many kind words of support. It is nice to know the effort is noticed, and suprisingly often by the lurkers who didn't ask the question. Thanks heaps. (For all those who sent pm's instead of posting - this goes for you also).

I've just got back and read over the "stuff", had a good laugh at some of it (I'll never get those minutes back)

- I'm sure I said not to feed it...

Thanks :)

For any future crazies out there - disputes on site policy and moderation - keep it out of the forums and comments - there is a contact form on the main page - please use it.

"I’m sure that posts do get deleted, changed, and even corrected all the time – without notifications, explanations, or personal or public apologies. The amount of time and effort that would be required to follow-up with each member whose post has been altered would very quickly overwhelm the staff and slow down the process to a virtual standstill. The suggestion is ludicrous!"

Don't forget that not everybody leaves a real email address.

Planecrazy

If I follow the postings in “your thread” correctly (and considering the fact that you hijacked it – it may as well be “your thread”), you are upset because you think BuBBy deleted a comment of yours from the front page (comments section) a couple of days ago. Is that the problem?

First
Posting a comment on this site in no way guarantees that it will appear, or remain, in print. That is entirely at the discretion of the administrators and may, at times, be delegated to one or more (unpaid) moderators. Thus your initial complaint is entirely without merit.

You and I, as members, have no way of knowing just how many posts get removed - all comments are "submitted for consideration" - there is nothing written or alluded to which indicates that all (or most) comments will appear on the site, or remain after posting – I’m sure that posts do get deleted, changed, and even corrected all the time – without notifications, explanations, or personal or public apologies. The amount of time and effort that would be required to follow-up with each member whose post has been altered would very quickly overwhelm the staff and slow down the process to a virtual standstill. The suggestion is ludicrous!

Second
You state:

"While it's certainly true that another moderator could have taken my comments down, I'm 99% certain that it was BuBBy, and I base the confidence in my educated guess on the fact that ... he as much as admitted in one his responses that he had edited or removed some other posts."

I don't understand what you mean by - BuBBy “admitted” in one of the responses that he had edited or removed some other posts - editing and removing posts is one of the tasks moderators routinely perform (as a service to the members).

The process of moderating (from what I have seen and/or experienced) may frequently, at any point in time, involve more than one person taking action upon a group of posts and therefore it cannot possibly be inferred (or lead to the logical conclusion) that anyone in particular is responsible for an action merely due to its close proximity in time or space to another. To assume so merely serves to illustrate further your lack of knowledge on this subject.

Third
You conclude:

"...not only was BuBBy the one who initiated the debate about what kinds of comments belonged where ..." based upon the inclusion in one of his posts, the statement:
Please comment only on the software here. If you have technical problems or suggestions on our project, please leave us a note in our forums.

If, as you state, you are a frequent visitor to the site, you surely should have noted that this instruction is included, every day (by the admins), just above the comment box so that all who wish to comment will see it.

To criticize BuBBy for trying to help everyone understand how the administrators wish the site to be run does nothing to support whatever point you are trying to make. It not only serves to further demonstrate the limited amount of effort you care to expend in understanding how the site functions, but also is a reflection of the accuracy with which you participate. And to follow up on another of your insightful remarks:

" I figured it out - if BuBBy REALLY wants to make it up to me I'll get one last shot at downloading this tomorrow - yeah, like that'll happen - I don't think I'm gonna hold my breath on it..."

further illustrates your lack of understanding of how this site functions. BuBBy does not decide what is offered or when, as he has explained several times in the past.

Fourth
When you complain:

"First of all, I do not even remotely qualify as a 'troll.'"

What makes you think BuBBy was talking about you?

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the term, I reference:
http://www.conradaskland.com/blog/2007/02/definition-of-internet-troll/

"In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, incorrect, inaccurate, absurd, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others. Trolls can also be existing members of such a community that rarely post and often contribute no useful information to the thread, but instead make argumentative posts in an attempt to discredit another person, more often than not based on what they thought was said rather than what was actually said by the other person, concentrating almost exclusively on facts irrelevant to the point of the conversation, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others."

Then again, if the shoe fits ...

Fifth
As clobermier so graciously noted:

"I know, because I have been on the site since it started, how much time and work Bubby puts into this place. I doubt he's paid for it, either. But I've watched him help so many people who were having software troubles… He could have just ignored me, but he didn't. And he has done things like that for scores of other visitors to this site."

BuBBy has given generously of both his time and energy to this site ensuring that members who ask for help receive it. He has always done so in a polite, constructive manner, giving step-by-step instructions, researching information, supplying links and doing whatever else he can to help anyone who needs it or to improve the site, in general.

And Runesage Magi added:

To come here and DEMAND an apology from a volunteer who may or may not have removed your precious posts while he's been devoting way too many hours each day cleaning up the dreck made by nincompoops pushes the envelope of civility. BubbyCo deserves some respect if not your expressed gratitude.
To continue this rant by repeating your DEMAND just makes you come off sounding over the top obsessed. Chill out, life's too short.

I totally concur with your perception, RM, of which party in this discussion has repeatedly crossed the line and which, at all times, conducted himself with poise and integrity.

Finally
As for the post that you accuse BuBBy of deleting - if you'd bothered to check, it is right there at #140. What probably happened was that your post number and position changed as a result of the moderation of other posts in the vicinity - and you never even bothered to check.

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/starburn-9-5/#comments

As you, yourself, stated previously: “… silence speaks volumes.” I suggest you permit it to.
I’m sure BuBBy isn’t the type to demand an apology.
