Coincidentally, this morning I tried to run my weekly Panda Free Nanoscan.
http://www.infectedornot.com/usa/
Avast blocked the download saying it contained the Win32:CTX Virus Worm
So, I then tried Panda's Free ActiveScan
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/?
It too was blocked. Methinks these be false positives, and both parties have been advised.

Thanks for the anti-rootkit, K8. Didn't see that freebie touted on the other Panda sites. Addendum: Ahhhh, don't you just love it when they say the PC's clean?

Thanks BubbyCo. That'll be another one for my isolated security links folder that DeadLink Tester can't find.

Rootkits are programs designed to hide files, processes or registry entries. They can be used to hide viruses, Trojans and other malicious code, making them invisible to users and security software.

As a result, users could be unaware that their computers could be sending out spam, launching attacks against other computers or even harboring Trojans used to steal confidential data.

Panda Anti-Rootkit scans computers for hidden items in running processes, the Windows registry, and local hard disks. On detecting a malicious rootkit, Panda Anti-Rootkit completely eliminates it along with all of the programs it could be hiding, including files, processes, registry entries and the ADSs associated to the rootkits.

Panda Anti-Rootkit, offers simple, fast and free protection against online fraud and data theft using hidden malicious code.

This free solution is updated online and be used as often as you like.
