I understand. I just may give it a try when I have some time. Wouldn't want to be totally closed to trying something new within reason. I have a similar app that accomplishes the same purpose, but can't find for example, bookmarks; ...so this may be useful to me in other ways/areas. It's late for me. Yeah, the downside is you need to have a rough idea of what you (or the developer) called the program.

However, you don't need the whole name - normally just a part of it - even a few letters - sometimes even if you get it a bit wrong, but close - Launchy can work out "what you meant".

Sometimes I have to fall back on the icons - for the same reason as you - but Launchy isn't an "all or nothing" finder - it just gives me an additional option for the 90% of the time I do know what I am doing. I find when faced with 100's of icons I can find minesweeper faster by just typing 'min' or 'sweep'. The same applies for my firefox bookmarks, or my mp3 collection.

As I said... I'm lazy - I hate searching and looking for stuff, drilling down into folders and scrolling menus off the screen....

I did check out the site and thank you for the link. However I, like most of us (I think anyway), prefer pics/icons as a quick reference verses more acronyms/short-names/macros to remember. What works good for some, doesn't necessarily work for others and is what makes this site and the versatility of it's content and offerings so great! Besides, I have so many little apps and little utilities etc. that I only use occasionally, that I have enough trouble remembering the exact name when I need them on rare occasion. Your suggestion would likely add to the confusion for me. I don't generally move around that much or have need to open and close numerous apps in a course of events. I know I have this little app to do what I want when I want, and it's easier to find the icon grouped within a category folder then it is to remember it's name or an acronym/macro for it.

I have more icons and folders on my desktop and in my start menu that would cause most people to question my state of mind.

To restore some sanity (ok... I am basically lazy) I use a great utility from http://launchy.net

It is easier to use than to explain - just have a read of the web page and try it out for 10 minutes. If you don't like it - send it back, and I'll refund the 10 minutes of your life you lost. :P

Reading this thread I see your comment about a desktop full of icons. I don't have a suggestion for organizing it other than using the desktop tool-bar which will duplicate all desktop shortcuts (along with some of your start menu folders... documents, pics, etc.) in a folder that's accessible via a button on your task-bar. Right click your desktop Taskbar> Toolbars> and click on Desktop in the context menu. This will place the button just left of your icon tray area on the taskbar. Click to reveal all desktop icons without having to minimize all windows to get back to the desktop. Makes for quick access to the desktop icons while other windows/apps are open and you need something right quick.

Now to keep the desktop looking sparse so the desktop doesn't look cluttered or busy and you can still see your wallpaper etc., I recommend a little free app called Iconoid. Iconoid can hide your desktop icons from view, yet allows quick access with a simple click on the desktop whenever they're needed, and they will disappear again once your cursor moves off the desktop onto another window. It's a pretty strait forward app and simple to setup. Has other neat features to. Hope this helps and adds to your pleasure dealing with icons on your desktop.

Another way to clean up your Desktop:
Right click on a empty area on your Desktop
Left click on New
Left click on Folder
Name the Folder, your choice
You can now drag and drop what ever you want into this folder
You also could make as many folders as you like and then categorize eg. Web Games, Forums, etc. You can even make folders for folders if you want to. The possibilities are endless.
If you want to change the icon for this folder, to make it all "spiffy" looking
Right click on the Folder
Left click Properties
Go to the Customize tab
Left click Change Icon
You can then pick an icon from there. Or Browse your computer for more icons. "Lots of free ones on the Net."
Left click on the icon
OK
Apply
It is realy quite simple after you do it a couple of times, and it gives your Desktop a personal touch.

I know some people are older here and this may not be a thing you would like but if you have kids they might like them. I'm 26, but I have played a few games from there and they were fun.

There are plenty of Organizers that work well. Like most things how you like to organize stuff really depends on how your mind is "wired". Most work around the concept of nesting or grouping. Others use categories and tags (set theory).

FANTASTIC!! (especially the last click-and-drag) Now the problem is I have a whole desktop full of icons! Is there some type of organizer for them that works better than grouping them into folders? The easiest way to create a desktop shortcut to a website is:

- Right click on an empty spot on your desktop.
- Left click on "New"
- Left click on "Shortcut"

a dialog should appear asking for the "location of the item:"
- Type the website name. eg: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com
- Press Next
- Type in a name for the Shortcut (This will be displayed under the icon that gets created on your desktop)
- Click Finish. (The icon should now be on your desktop)

ALTERNATIVELY

If you already have the site in your favorites - size your browser so you can still see your desktop background also (don't have the browser take up all the screen).
- Open your favorites
- Left click on the favorite and drag it to your desktop
- Release the left mouse button
- The Favorite should now also be a shortcut on your desktop.

Sorry, you have to be a little more specific for me - ..."find the link in your program files..." - where?

"Face" - Hello again 8-) If you can find the link in your program files... Highlight that program, then right click mouse. It should display option for "create icon". It maynot always be an image, just a folder displayed with the name. Hope this works for you...

okay , the 101 games are indexed and the blurb is most of the way to the bottom. i have looked through quickly..they look good. there are fighting games , flying games , ect. downloaded barnstorming for josh and am going back to check it out more..ok , i am back wow! ninja fighter looks like a good fight game and pinball of the future is a program to make pinball games as well as some already made . ..i will be lurking there again..
