To work on a an inactive registery, you can use RegEdit PE. You need to have the WINDOWS directory though for it to work correctly. Also, it will rename some of the keys to REMOTE_ so you will have to do a replace function in a text editor to fix those keys after they are exported. RegEditPE looks exactly like normal regedit btw.

Thank you Copmum, but it's not about popups from the internet, but windows from the program popping up when installing the program. So I dont think a pop-up blocker would be of much help, I'm afraid.

Angelina, just close or minimize the popups until you get to the installation box.
Seems to me you might need a popup stopper. Here's a link to a free edition of one I've used for quite sometime now: http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html

Hi, I asked on the commentpage, about reg-key. But it doesnt seem to get published. I dont recieve it, or at least, if I do, it "disappears" behind other windows popping up when installing. Tried on both my computers, its the same on both! Could anybode tell me if there is a key, and how do I get it? Its not given on the "readme" that follows the program.... Thanks!

actually, what I want to find is a tool to work on 'dead' registries, not currently operating in a live os- or a way to mount one to mine it!

to Paali: Is it possible to move over only the registries you wish to keep?
I mean, like a program that lets you choose to save the registries that belong to only certain softwares?

I have successfully using
Karen'sRegistry Ripper v1.2
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptregrip.asp

to save particular reg entries.
I was on WinXP, and migrated some programs to Win Vista.

Backing up the registry is important regardless of whether or not you're trying to save GOTD installations. A quick, effective, and free way to do so in Windows (XP at least; I don't know if it works in Vista) is Erunt (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html).

I can't tell you how, but for 99% of all applications, the registration in stored in the registry. When you reinstall windows on a clean partition it writes itseld a new registry when you install.

Why not backup your hard drive? It is far better than reinstalling everything from scratch anyway? Plus you keep all of your GAOTD software and registrations as well.

Whiterabbit speaks the truth.

The only support for installation of giveaway software is during the giveaway period.

If you need to reinstall the giveaway software outside of the 24hour giveaway period - you can either wait for the possibility of a re-run giveaway, or purchase a license from the developer (Contact them via their website - often they will provide a software license at a discount to their usual price).

If it is "going to suck" not having your favorite free program after a system reinstall - perhaps that is a sign the software might even be worth registering.

If you needed/used the software that much, it's worth buying.

No you cannot do that as you need the registration entries.

I cannot say how you can do it because it's not allowed here on these forums as it would be breaking the agreement between the software developers/distributors and the Game Giveaway team. If you just do a repair install then the registration entries wont be lost.

The whole point of this project is to give you more than the usual 60 minutes to evaluate a product. If you really want to keep them then ultimately you may have to buy them.
