Pauloparra:

I locate a search engine for what I need. Freeware has at least one search engine at freeware.filehungry.com.

My favorite is Clusty, but you might want to try OSDir.com, Koders (for opensource code), Freshmeat.net, AllSearchEngines.com, SearchEngineGuide.com, RefDesk.com, Momma.com.

Specialized search engine listings at these two sites:

http://www.philb.com/whichengine.htm
http://webquest.sdsu.edu/searching/specialized.html

One of the newest (and most fun) web crawlers is ChaCha, where you can do a simple Google-type search OR choose 'search with guide,' which opens up a dialog box to access live experts, free of charge. You can find it at http://www.chacha.com/

Of course, you can always check the links already posted at social bookmarking sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, Frassle, Furl, Scuttle and Wists.

Good point, BuBBy!!

I'll start making it a habit of checking out those sidebars, like you said, never can tell.... :-)

I tend to find "interesting" sites in much the same way - just go looking.

Also, if you find an interesting site - it sometimes pays off having a look at the "links" section or the side panels for sites that they recommend. I'm sure most people ignore the sidebars and related links, assuming that they are all just advertising. Sometimes the owners of these websites like to "share the odd gem" that they have found also.... (After a while, you get to know which sites share candy, and which sites share... crap).

Well, speaking for myself only, it usually turns out that I find my way to sites like the one I listed above simply by starting out looking for a particular program.

What usually happens is that when I want or need a program to do something for me, I pretty much know the names of the programs that do that function, but one has to pay for. So, from there, I just start looking for a free replacement for the pay program.

Once I locate the freeware program that will do the job for me, I sometimes luck out and end up at a website that has many freeware programs all in one place.

All that to say this: Mostly for me, it's a matter of good fortune.... :-)

Hello,

This page is awesome. Thanks a lot (of money that I am going to save ).

Seriously, how do you guys find all these great downloads? There are quite a bit of them in this forum. I, for one, am very grateful for sharing with us the result of the time spent finding them and for taking the time to post them.

Yea.. nice work. I'm with HeadMan, I would have never found it using Google. Sometimes Google gives you too much info. It's freaky.
