You have to register for it but the home reregistration is free. I have uses this for a number of years and have really liked it.

i've also seen in GOTD ads the avira antivir home edition PREMIUM demo. but, as MAZ said, you cannot update it.</p>
<p>on the other hand, the avira antivir home edition CLASSIC is FREE and comes with an update.</p>
<p>just search for AVIRA.</p>

			<description><p>As programs here are usually given without the ability to update, an anti-virus program isn't really appropriate. There are several free anti-virus programs around that are updated regularly. I've been using the free AVG program for years, and have found it very good.</p>
