Hello,

I also had problems with this puppy. I took all the files that were inside C:\\virtual outside. My computer now is now able to boot and there is no BufferZone icon on the toolbar.

At this point I am not sure if BZ will run at all because I had to force some programs to leave the Virtual directory. Before trying anything I'm going to visit their news groups and read its documentation carefully.

Needless to say that this is not what I expected at all.

-Mario

I gave it a try, but messaging did not work in Skype, which I use quite extensively, the option just disappeared from the menu. I also did not like that all downloaded files turned virtual, some other apps started to give problems. As soon as these started, I returned the registry to the state of before and eliminated the program, - end of problems.
I much prefer Returnil, that was offered a while ago. It is really great for trying out software, you don't like it, reboot and its all gone. I'm not sure if it gives a comparable level of virus protection as Bufferzone claims in protected state and I will not try to find out either, but the general behaviour of the program is much better. It's there in the tray, doesn't bother or hinder the pc when running in protected mode.

I installed bufferzone from the GAOTD offer. My system is W2K + SP4. the install appeared to work fine. However, a few days after the installation, I rebooted this box after a power failure. (Bufferzone was the last software installed prior to this reboot.)
When I rebooted, windows failed to start. At the "reconnecting network connections" phase, it threw a message about "services.exe" encountering an unexpected error 128 and shutdown.
Microsoft have some remedies for this, mostly about errant shares, and having to remove them from the registry. I went into safe mode and ended up removing all my shares, just to be completely sure. This didn't solve the problem. There were some other remedies, that didn't seem to apply to me, but I tried them anyway. None of these got me past the "error 128" / "shutting down" message.
After a very fraught day of reboots, safe mode, booting off CD (repair mode) I undid the last change - which had been to install bufferzone. I was unable to remove the package with W2K in safe mode, but I was able to disable its services.
When the 3 bufferzone services had been disabled, and a couple of other servies enabled (COM+ and a security service - these seem to be needed by other services, I don't know why they were disabled. I didn't explicitly disable them) the box rebooted with no problems, despite the hacking around I had done.

I've now gone through a clean shutdown/power-off/reboot cycle and the box appears stable. I haven't got the skills to say for sure what the problem was, but I consider I've had a very lucky escape.

I'm having trouble, too. It worked great - fantastic - the day I installed it despite many shutdown and restarts for other things. The next day I couldn't boot into the admin. account. I had to go into the guest account and then Switch Users. Today I'm trying the trial version, but don't know how it will fare.

I wish I could help you. I tried to install it and it said it wasn't compatible with "Advanced WindowsCare", install anyway? And I said yes and it told me to reboot. And when I did, the computer would be in a continuous reboot state. So I went to safe mode and did a System Restore to remove Bufferzone Pro. :(
