In many cases the way "things are done" has changed, and programs have to be updated and retested to work under Vista. Also a lot of device drivers have to be rewritten or replaced.</p> <p>So the reward for rushing out "to be first" with Vista, is heaps of programs (and devices) that have been working just fine for years on Windows XP, are now "broken".
