Posted a reply as I'm sure you've read it by now. ;)

Face,

Curious if you found an alternative backup/comparable weather app you like?

@BigThunder1
I've been an IE fan since the beginning, whats better about Firefox? I can read all the ad's but as a user, tell me what you like about it. Since this is off topic in this thread, I'll start another one in "Talks" about the two browsers.

Archangel,

I imagine there's a few around that'll be joining you shortly if they haven't already! LOL!

Face,

Here's a great little weather app freebie that BuBBy turn me onto called Weather Watcher that gets it's reports from 'Weather[dot]com'. Just an icon in sys tray with current outside temp that has a popup with particulars on it. Click the icon itself to open the app UI and find a slew of features that won't disappoint you!

If you use Firefox (if not you should IMHO) here's a great little extension that will give great info as well, including live local radar for your area/state/region or anywhere in the world (you setup different profiles). It's called ForecastFox and gets it's info from AccuWeather[dot]com.

Both apps are outstanding and have similar yet different features that I find complimentary to one another. Love and use them both. Neither of them are audible, but you can fix that with some free OCR app I'm sure if need be. Hope these help ya! Btw - lots of Mennonites and Amish in my area (N/E US) and they're some of the nicest folks you'd ever want to meet. ;)

Enjoy... :)

Thanks everyone who wrote in to help (or just to laugh!) - appreciate the input

Actually it was BillW50 who gave me the clue - obviously it doesn't realise that I'm connected to the internet when I am (wireless connection to cable - always on), so I closed the window and turned up the TV. I found a station proclaiming that "global warming is a myth" (thanks BuBBy!), turned up the sound, punched a few keys and voila! - back up and running. (OK, in truth, I turned it off and fiddled with a few things that I thought might be confusing the picture and when I turned it back on this AM it was fine - so who knows?)

Archangel - What I like about it is that it shows temp, humidity and conditions for a few places (I can't start the day without knowing the weather in Vostok, Antarctica - BTW, for anyone else interested: -94, with low drifting snow this morning). Plus it gives a concise little report on local weather (for the next week) and you can update all with a single button.

If you know of any freeware that does the same, I'd be interested - in case this one buggers up to the point I can't get it back. You see, I'm friends with a family down the road who are farmers and Mennonite, so the upcoming weather (especially the probability of precipitation) is important to them. However, they aren't allowed tv or radio, so they call me to see if I have any thoughts on what the week's weather might look like (knowing that I'm not bound by the same restrictions). It's nice to have the answers right at my fingertips, so I can help them out, since they do a lot for me.

LMAO Went out of state last thursday for a class reunion and came back to read and get caught up. Thanks for the humor Face. Of course there are those of us that HAVE to chime in when the time is right.

BTW,,,,I removed it several hours after installing it. If you had a need for software like this there is freeware better than this piece of sssssss software.

It downloaded and installed fine and has been working great, but when I turned it on just now it showed the info from last night, so I hit "Update". It cycled through all the temps and stopped at -99F. I knew that was wrong, so I tried "Update All" - it ran through the info, but stopped again at last night's temp, 66F - So ...

I ran to the window, threw open the sash - stuck out my head and nearly fell on my ... ash? - - When what to my wondering eyes did appear - but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny ... Oh dear!

Sorry, wrong season! Outside felt more like 80F - which is what my window thermometer read. So I tried "Update All" again ... and again ... and again ...

No luck - won't budge - anybody else having problems with it, or got a suggestion?
