Did I miss it? I know some users believe it's implied, but really: a lot of software have licences that expire after a while (Sure, usually if they have such a system, it's a year, but that's besides the point). My guess is that GaOTD's main objective is to attract advertising revenue from other developers. Free giveaways attract large numbers of visitors.
