If I may put in my penny's worth ... I'd like to see some of the art-related software such as that offered by Cloudstars (http://www.cloudstars.com). It might not have a very broad appeal but could be fun - even for the sizeable number who d/l then delete GOTD software.

Michelle,
To your point, I couldn't agree more. It is healthy in a way that not giveaways are of no use to me more often than not. Steers me away from installing a lot of software and helps me keep my computer clean plus sometimes there are redundant giveaways too. GAOTD is doing a tremendous job and I applaud them for that.

cdundee, they only have so much they can give away. It would be nice if they can give any program they want, but they can't.

I wouldn't want a good giveaway everyday, do you realize how crowded and how slow your computer would be if you install a new software everyday? I haven't installed anything from giveawayoftheday in a couple months. I been installing mostly games from realarcade once and a while and when I have the money or get a new credit.

I joined realarcade gamepass, not to bad. Currently I have about 14 games from their and every month if you join a new credit will be awarded to your account and you can use it to pick out a new game. It's like $9.99 plus tax a month.

I believe that not every software giveaway is useful to everyone and not everyone needs every software giveaway. I have always and will always appreciate GAOTD. I was alluding to the point that perhaps the type and timing of giveaways need to be altered a little bit. I have seen that sometimes the offerings are really of no use to a majority of users (in my opinion) or such giveaways are offered back to back for a few days so that people don't have to wait longer to download a good software. Just expressing my non-binding opinion, that's all.

Define "Average User". A college student who uses his computer only for gaming and writing essays is still within the realm of being reasonably called "average", but the kind of software he's going to ask for is different from another "average" user who only checks email, files taxes and plays solitaire.

I think the "truly" average (or maybe the word I'm looking for is "typical") user falls into the latter category, to be completely honest, and if Giveaway only offered email and solitaire... well, they wouldn't be giving away very much.

Even if the given software is useless or uninteresting to me, I still appreciate that some of the products fall into niche markets, because it means eventually there might be something that falls into MY niche (even if I don't find the specific program useful).

They offered Advanced Windows Care Pro here already and there were some problems.

I come to gotd everyday to see what program they are offering. Most of the time I don't download because I can't use, but some people can use what they offer for whatever reason.

http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/products/php/product.php?session_langid=2&idstring=1106 (I really like that program and it is free. It's version 2)

But GoTD can only do so much and they can not make everyone happy, especially at the same time.

For the last few days personally I thought that the software offerings were not useful for the average user. My suggestion would be to offer something like FineCrypt or a folder locker program. These would be great for personal use. I found a few freewares but as usual they are severely limited in functionality i.e., capability to create a self extracting encrypted exe file which can have maximum 5 files or capability to lock only parent folder and not sub-folders.
