The whole thing would be fixed by requiring a registration to comment. Most other sites require some sort of account to post comments. People are less likely to be abusive or make pointless comments - if they know they are 'tagged' with a persistent identity.

Making people accountable for their comments - may result in people putting more care and thought into their comments. It also stops "impersonation".

I feel it is a much needed "first step"...
I've seen very similar "comments"; just minutes apart, that an "IP" check could help.

I like it, as it should stop certain comments like 'first to reply'.

I think only logged in members should be able to comment as I bet some people that leave comments will try boost their 'yes' scale to make themselves smug.

I see it's ip checked rather than cookie checked.

I like the idea - once a comment gets to around -30, GOTD sends 200 Volts through the posters chair. Now That would be a great way to clean up the comments section. ;)

Actually for logged in users - if we had the option to set in our users profile - to just not display anything below -10 (for example) so when we refresh the comments section, (if we choose to) the crap is not displayed.

Alternatively for people who are into that sort of thing - let them only display the Really bad comments (so only show comments at -10 and below, for example). Some people get a kick out of that sort of thing.

I absolutely love this new feature in the comments section that's been added. I don't know how long it's been there, but I just noticed it today. Does anyone know if the ones that get cerain number of no's get deleted? That would be a great way to clean up the comments section.
