We both have broadband but I do not know what speed my son gets in Karratha, Western Australia whereas I am in Adelaide, South Australia. I guess there is no point in looking at a VOIP provider if my line (speed) aint up to it.

The biggest factor affecting video and audio quality is the speed of your internet connection (and availability of that bandwidth - ie. you are not running anything else that is using your bandwidth). A slow connection (such as dial-up) will never come close (in terms of quality) as fast broadband.

Also remember what you see and hear is dependent on the connection at the other end - if you have fast broadband, and the other person only has dialup - what you see and hear will be determined by their poor transmission speed.

I have d/l the latest Skype and Windows Live Messenger to compare the quality of audio and video and I find WLM to be a little superior but not satisfactory. Maybe it is the quality of my 'phone line but with WLM I get reasonable video and really poor audio and with Skype the reverse applies.
Is there any fine tuning I can use to improve either programme? Hope you can advise thanks
