http://techcrunch.com/2013/01/02/microsoft-says-google-is-preventing-it-from-building-a-youtube-app-for-windows-phone/

Microsoft Says Google Is Preventing It From Building A YouTube App For Windows Phone
But for whatever reason, though, Microsoft believes the higher-ups at Google are dictating that a similar app shouldn’t be available on Windows Phone. Heiner writes:

“Microsoft has continued to engage with YouTube personnel over the past two years to remedy this problem for consumers.

But just last month we learned from YouTube that senior executives at Google told them not to enable a first-class YouTube experience on Windows Phones.”

In a statement sent to AllThingsD, a spokesperson wrote:

“Contrary to Microsoft’s claims, it’s easy for consumers to view YouTube videos on Windows phones. Windows phone users can access all the features of YouTube through our HTML5-based mobile website, including viewing high-quality video streams, finding favorite videos, seeing video ratings, and searching for video categories. In fact, we’ve worked with Microsoft for several years to help build a great YouTube experience on Windows phones.”

http://someit.com/2013/01/02/microsoft-says-google-is-preve/

“[I]n 2010 and again more recently, Google blocked Microsoft’s new Windows Phones from operating properly with YouTube. Google has enabled its own Android phones to access YouTube so that users can search for video categories, find favorites, see ratings, and so forth in the rich user interfaces offered by those phones. It’s done the same thing for the iPhones offered by Apple, which doesn’t offer a competing search service.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_on_the_issues/archive/2013/01/02/still-seeking-resolution-to-search-competition-issues.aspx

Unfortunately, Google has refused to allow Microsoft’s new Windows Phones to access this YouTube metadata in the same way that Android phones and iPhones do. As a result, Microsoft’s YouTube “app” on Windows Phones is basically just a browser displaying YouTube’s mobile Web site, without the rich functionality offered on competing phones. Microsoft is ready to release a high quality YouTube app for Windows Phone. We just need permission to access YouTube in the way that other phones already do, permission Google has refused to provide.”

Google dismisses these concerns as little more than sour grapes by one of its competitors. But the reality is that consumers and competitors alike are getting “scroogled” across the Web on a daily basis from this type of misconduct.

Hopefully, Google will wake up to a New Year with a resolution to change its ways and start to conform with the antitrust laws. If not, then 2013 hopefully will be the year when antitrust enforcers display the resolve that Google continues to lack.

US woman arrested for bank robbery brags on YouTube about robbing a bank

In yet another example of criminals who can't suppress the urge to fill their fans in on exploits via social media channels, a 19-year-old who posted a YouTube video about robbing a bank has been arrested for robbing a bank.

The video, titled "Chick Bank Robber," [Video] features a silent Hannah holding up handwritten messages as Green Day’s "Warning" and "Minority" plays.

The messages tell the tale of stealing a "shiny. SHINY!!" Pontiac Grand Am with a "full bowl of weed." The self-proclaimed Chick Bank Robber assures viewers that she took off the license plates and threw them out, then robbed a bank with a gun, a pillow case and a note.

With a search warrant in hand, police found "everything we wanted" at her home, York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff told the York News Times.

"At the time of the arrest, she was wearing the same clothes she was pictured wearing during the bank robbery. … Then we found the pink back pack that she was seen carrying in the bank. We also found the sunglasses. It was everything we needed."

Cooking up a fake name doesn't cut it in the world of IP addresses.

The YouTube video will be submitted as evidence.

Sabata is, naturally, being called a long list of variations on "idiot."

I’m not sure if there is a Bank Robber’s Handbook, but if so, 19-year-old Hannah Sabata of Stromsburg, Nebraska must have the old edition that doesn’t include the new chapter on not bragging about your crimes on the internet!

Four videos advertising the upcoming Windows 8 operating system have been removed from YouTube after Microsoft informed Google that they infringe its copyright.

Paradoxically, the four clips recorded thousands of views in less than one day and were considered a very efficient way to advertise the new Windows OS, but Microsoft decided to take them down immediately.

“This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Microsoft. Sorry about that,”

Bobby posted a couple of years ago about a great media player named Songbird that was in development. I just found this software and am right away impressed with it. It truly is the Firefox of media players. I can customize the look of it, and the components. I can intregrate my Shoutcast, Last.fm, and Itunes. Not only does it play music, but it works as an internet browser with it's own download manager EXACTLY like Firefox. I can download DownloadHelper and download youtube videos straight to the media player...just like Firefox. I've downloaded an album art add-on and a quiz game based on your own library and a lyric displayer. This thing is awesome and it's only 13mb! Download/check it out here!

Hello Dickson

I didn't download the program you mentioned but there are alot of different programs that will download from youtube and other sites (I have a download manager that does it).

So if you think about what your trying/wanting to achieve you'll find that there are other open source programs (Free) that will get the job done.

Hello

I have developed a probelm with the youtubeget program which has to do with youtube.

After talking to the youtubeget website I have found out that all previous versions of the program will no longer work and that I should download, pay and register the new version.

It would be grate if there was a possibility of getting another giveaway of their latest fixed version as I personally have liked this program but cannot pay for it.

I just want to say a big thank you to giveaway to the many great programs that I otherwise would never have had.

Youtubeget's final answer to my problem is pasted below.

" Dear M,

YouTube Recently changed their video path method so the previous versions ALL can not be used.

So we worked all 3 days and 3 nights for fixing it. then the new version was out. If you really like to use our software, please register it. Your registration will be much appreaciated, and encourage us to make softare better.

Regards,

Well in reply to my own question I have just had another reply from the Youtubeget website which means that we will all have the same problem when we next want to use the youtubeget program.

It looks like we will either have to fork out $29 or talk very nicely to Giveawayoftheday to try and get the lastest version which has apparently fixed the problem.

I have pasted their reply to me below

Hello

I am wondering if anybody has the same problem as me with the YoutubeGet prgram that was given away earlier in the year.

When I try to download I get an error message telling me that the coder.exe program in not working.

This is a very recent problem and the last couple of days and has happened to myself an my sister, we both downloaded this program from this website. I don't know anybody that has bought the program to check with them.

I have tried emailing the youttubeget site but am not getting much help. They just told me that I had to download the latest program and would have to re-register and pay for it.

They did agree that they have found this fault but have not helped me with any fix for it.

Could anybody that has this problem post on here so that I can get back to them or let me know if there may be a way to fix it.

Many thanks for reading
